    Looks good. No need to level the dirt with a board though. The gravel be level regardless of the angle of the dirt underneath.

    How do you take care of it when it rains?

  • @AdrienBCaldwell
    @AdrienBCaldwell 4 года назад +26

    I fear that during heavy rain storms that you're going to have water pooling in the areas where the plastic was placed. Weed barrier isn't terribly expensive. Especially for such a small driveway. Proper weed barrier is essential to let the ground breath and to let rain water pass through.

    • @DIYKalinga
      @DIYKalinga  4 года назад +13

      Your fear is valid. Please be happy to know that the driveway is fine. It did experience heavy rain storms, but because we didn't use one long continuous plastic, water can still find its way into the ground through the seams.

      Pretty sure that rock will have cut through that plastic. Little roundup up if weeds come up not a big deal

    Amazing job...just curious how did the plastic trash bags work against the weeds?

    • @DIYKalinga
      @DIYKalinga  4 года назад +3

      Hi! Thank you. To answer your question, overall, I'd say the plastic sheets worked. So far, the only problem is nut grass, which pops from time to time especially in a few areas where they freely grew before the makeover.

      @@DIYKalinga How about rain, does the plastic bags hold water from draining into the soil after heavy rainfall?

    • @DIYKalinga
      @DIYKalinga  4 года назад +4

      @@ayojohnson7194 Nope. The water can still find its way into the ground through the seams of the plastic bags. That said, you might want to cut your plastic in sections.

    Plastic like that is not permeable. Water will pool on top causing flooding problems. Nails were not necessary, the stone would hold fabric down plus they rust. Never dig wearing flip flops. In short, do not do this at home.

    Plastics and crush rock don’t work together on drive way ,rocks ll roll over .

      @@DIYKalinga - The driveway looks great. I'm just concerned down the road of one of the nails shifting and popping a tire. I get to do this project this week. Where did you get the transparent bags?

    • @DIYKalinga
      @DIYKalinga  5 лет назад +1

      Andy Sanchez Andy Sanchez Hi!
      I understand your concern. So far, the driveway hasn’t caused tire-related problems. Note that its use is limited to only 2 cars.
      Note also that the only reason why we used nails (and plastic bags) is weed control. I’m sure there are other ways to prevent weeds without using nails and plastic.
      As for the bags, they used to be animal-feed bags. We got them for free from my friend’s feed supply store. You can use sheets of newspaper or black garbage bags if the purpose is weed control.
      Cheers! 💪🏽

      DIY Kalinga sorry I should have looked at your page before I posted a comment, I thought you were pretending to give a instructional video on building a driveway, not just showing it. It will work for a few years, you will get growth coming through the plastic, just some non toxic weed killer, and depending on the weather and soil you may need to top it up in spots when it sinks. Next time a bit deeper. And try and compact base more, drive a car over it if you don’t have a compactor
