Interesting, but maybe the same approach used about 10 years ago or so at the Михаил Дмитриев RUclips channel. He's got the hanging weights, too, that swing forward, but I think he ultimately ended up having to use a motor to provide a little more force to keep it going. I think his work is definitely worth a look.

I have a new design that is based on this, but it is a lot simpler.
