I've played enough Telltale style games to not be surprised about voice syncing issues and dialog cutting out. I'm not sure I've played a game where it hasnt happened, and the fact that this was made by former Telltale Devs makes sense. However a bit annoying that they haven't figured out how to stop it by now.

I just finished the game and really enjoyed it. I have played a wide variety of Star Trek games over the years going back to the Apple II. This feels the most like an episode of the show of any I played. The story is strong with many important decisions along the way. It really makes you think about what you are doing. The graphics are not triple AAA but did not bother me at all. The only audio problems I ran into was a few places the audio did not match the subtitles. I really hope we can get more Star Trek games like this in the future.

I haven't played the game myself yet, partly because I've already got two games on the go at the moment (one of which is the aforementioned "Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova"!). I bought this at release and held on playing it awhile until a patch came out, which mitigated many of more egregious sound issues. They're mainly fixed now and was good enough for me to binge the whole game in one day (about 10 hours for my playthrough).
I'm both a gaming veteran and long-time Trek fan and I think this review is pretty spot-on. This game is NOT a technical masterpiece in terms of graphics; player animations and so on. However, this game really nails that TNG era vibe and the story is quite well done (and a huge amount of applause for taking a much more obscure piece of canon as the key focus vs just recycling the Borg or something like that). I also appreciated the many more subtle nods to Trek history, little details, and I found myself leveraging some of my own Trek knowledge in knowing what types of responses might be accepted by members of more established races/characters within canon.
One other thing is that the game is pretty accessible to folks who may merely dabble in video games. You do have to be comfortable with where buttons are located on the controller without looking down at the controller, but the more rapid 'quick time events' tend to happen later in the game (even less experienced gamers should be relatively comfortable with knowing where 'R2' is on a PS4/PS5 controller, for example, by time the game gets to this point). Tutorials are also presented for each new mechanic AND are easily accessible at all times. So, IMO, if you are a Trek fan that would like to experience the story but are not much of a gamer, I think you will find the experience reasonable (and there is apparently a story mode option but I am not precisely sure what that entails).
Overall, this was a very welcome addition to Trek gaming and I hope we another offering from this developer down the road (even if it is not a continuation of the Resolute story arc).

My main problem with the game is that the timer that tells you how much time you have to decide doesn’t actually matter, if you let the timer go down, it just pauses the game and continues waiting for you to pick something
Another issue I have is the lack of options when it comes to resolution, I have a 3440 x 1440 monitor and it’s really disorienting when it’s not all being used. It’s fine during cutscenes because I’m not controlling the character. But during gameplay, it can be disorientating
Another issue, is the lack of graphics choices, the motion blur in this game is way too intense and kind of hurts my eyes when I’m looking at it, so I really wish there was the option to disable it

    SPOILERS BELOW:
One point to challenge in the video, this is not the first time in "any part of the franchise" the Tkon have been explored in depth--the awesome novel Q Continuum has a whole subplot about their last days and attempts to save their civilization, Star Trek Vanguard's novels explore their rise to dominance, and Star Trek Online also has a mission or two where you have to find some of their relics. The neat thing about Resurgence is that it fits nicely into Vanguard and Q Continuum's information about the Tkon. They really did their homework for this game.

Resurgence is a bit clunky graphically and gameplay wise, but man-oh-man does it scratch that "90s Trek Game" itch I didn't know I had. The music reminds me of Star Trek Armada, the characters and setting remind me of Star Trek: Bridge Commander, and the gameplay and decision-making reminds me of Star Trek: Borg. The developers really took care to give us as much as they could in a limited package. I especially appreciate that the characters are complex and not like Mass Effect where you have to generally pick "Red" or "Blue" options predictably for each companion to approve. It felt like dealing with real people. For me, it's been a good example of how if you focus on the details and content, the graphics and traditional "flash" don't matter as much. I'd be totally down for more games like this, even if the graphics do look like someone remastered Elite Force II.

I was pretty happy with this one. It definitely felt like Star Trek rather than something else with a thin skin on it. Tho I played it on PC with mouse / keyboard which was...weird at times. It would still pop up things like the joystick icon when you need to do something, but overlay it with a key press. Sometimes. Other times you use the mouse for similar actions. Mostly it wasn't too annoying, other than the thing mentioned in the video about accidentally backing out to the main menu. I did that several times. Any game that doesn't use ESC to back up to where you were is maddening, and that's what happens here. I would unintentionally pop open the interaction screen, and reflexively hit ESC to go back, but instead get dropped to the main menu and lose progress! Argh!
Also experienced at least some of the same sound issues, especially the echo with the last second or so of sound repeating at the end of a piece of dialog. Thought that was just something weird with my PC, but seems like it' endemic to the game regardless of platform.
Overall tho I think this summary is spot on and I did really enjoy it, quirks notwithstanding. I probably wouldn't even count the romance subplot as a down. Not an up either, just kind of a thing that happened that didn't really affect me much one way or another.

Here's MY only down: what the hell is it with some Trekkies who somehow hate any reference to the Kobayashi Maru scenario? It's one of the coolest concepts to ever hit Star Trek, a test of mental strength and a litmus test for hubris. It's awesome. The Kobyashi Maru test issue is that it always seems to be used as a trope, like there were no other tests of judgement, character and command ever taken by starfleet cadets (Wesley Crusher and Troi having to send people to their deaths, for example), it's gotten a tad stale over the years with being over-used so much...

    *SPOILERS*
The "Choices" do NOT provide any real difference in gameplay, unlike the Mass Effect choices. Aside from the ONE CHOICE which will have your security chief getting a visor or not, and one later choice of pissing her off by SAVING (stored) LIVES, everything will happen the SAME EXACT WAY. Even the 1st officer choice doesn't change things as the exact same situation plays out but with just a different character. Now, had it each been different, just like the above, even if minor, THEN it would have been MUCH better.

The only issue I have is that its looks very last gen, I can handle the low visual quality as its not tripple A but the janky walk and body animations really take you out of the moment. Its not as bad as 'my face is tired' but it it feels hand animated rather than mocap. The stroy is great, bit slow at times but its like any of the teltale games or even the old twistaplot novels I read as a kid. Its enjoyable and nice not be be a live service or stuffed full of ingame shop microtransactions. Yeah space opera love needs to be left to Macross as well... this was so, nope.

Visually, I'm not sold on what this game looks like. It might just be the video encoding used by TrekCulture, but it seems like the visuals flip between what looks like the original Mass Effect game, and then suddenly there's vaseline-on-thel-lens smear filters. I'm willing to overlook some visual quirks if there is consistancy, which apparently that is not what this game has.
Now, "dev hat" on, I suspect that the game is actually three games glued together. I saw this with Star Trek Online as well. Where the developers shoe-horned one type of game into another game engine, so for example, in STO, when you are "flying a ship" what you're really doing moving a "ship" character like it were a human character, on a 2D plane. Not the worst way to do it, but it becomes immediately obvious that "walking around on the starbase/planet", "walking around the ship", and "flying the ship" are different "games" and thus it dials back graphical settings so that the second you see the sky or a star it doesn't grind to a halt, where as when you are inside the ship, "windows" to the outside an illusion and the ship isn't moving, the outside is.

The visuals I can live with. It's not a AAA title and I'm not a FPS snob.
The frustrating phaser fight gameplay is thankfully mitigated by a generous checkpoint system.
Even when the game decides to flip out and force me to restart the segment is not as annoying (again, checkpoints)
WHAT grinds my gears is 2 achievements (playing on XB1) are currently unobtainable, and they're basic "Finish an Act" achievements (Act 1 and 2, but Act 3 pops)

NP here considering the over priced triple a games have a day one patch because of corporate greed. This game way better at $40 dollars then some of the crap that come out the last few months.

I do respect that this review is from a star trek point of view. But if your 1st down is legit, all the gameplay and bugs of a game ....... like for any game, thats a trellium down. I don't wanna buy a game if any gameplay will drive me crazy 😥

Looks cool, but a steep price tag, although i can see why its that price. I wonder if my misses would let me buy it....... probably

Is this game better on one platform over the other? It seems to be cheaper on Xbox than it is on PlayStation.

its just like the tell tale games. You don't really DO anything. and it looks pretty poor for a modern day game. St has always lacked when it comes to the extras like video games. Starfleet command was great, Star Trek online is good to if not VERy outdated at this point. but this is where we lag behind the other franchises!

Yeah I'm not a fan of the games where you kind of just play through a story and walk between checkpoints

I've noticed a few games doing this with the voice/mouth flap animation lately. I think it's something they do intentionally, so it doesn't matter what language you're playing.

So STO is still the best space shooter for Star Trek besides what was it ??? Armada or something for game cube or PlayStation 2? Still give a Xbox remaster if Starfleet command from old 2000s pc the galaxy was hexagon tiles and you fight for territory and it wasn’t total crap like fleet command
