Got here from an article about Berlin being Geddy Lee's favorite bass player. I remember him playing "Joe Frazier" on Bill Bruford's "Gradually Going Tornado" LP in 1979. Killer!
Awesome! Everyone is on overdrive. Love it. I wish someone could upload more of these sessions in full. I have searched high and low for more from these guys together with zero results.
Espectacular!! Lembro-me de ver e ouvir esta excelente desbunda no velhinho VHS. Grandes animais a tocar!! Já tinha procurado por isto no RUclips há uns anos e tinha encontrado dois a três videos. É sempre bom haver mais um! Obrigado pela recordação!
"WE'VE GOT BUSH! WE'VE GOT BUSH!" (and one wonders how Curtis Armstrong feels when he thinks about the fact that he played a character named "Booger" in "Nerds" and then follows that with a character named "Snot" in "American Dad")
Frank Gambale sounds like a jazz horn player -- like a lightning-fast Miles Davis or the like -- in this jam. Listen to that one stretch high on the fretboard... it has horn all over it. Amazing! Even his choice of notes are those a serious jazz horn player would have chosen. And Jeff Berlin... what an incredible bass player. So accurate... and that P-Bass tone is premium. Vinnie? Well, Vinnie is there and smokin' no matter what style of music he is playing. My only critique is it wasn't long enough. I think they threw this in there strictly for Jeff's Star Licks video... because I cannot find it anywhere else. They say rock isn't what it was then, and it surely isn't. But even fusion is no longer what it was back then... nobody is doing serious, heavy fusion like these guys were doing at that time. Even Chick Corea and Dimeola changed and mellowed out as time went on. I miss this stuff!
My good friend can go note for note fret for fret with Jeff n still Jeff would place second....Scott Spray is his name n he is good n can certainly back this up...I'm sure Jeff has heard of him I know Vinnie has.....
Getting side tracked in my kitchen trying to figure out the next exersize in my Frederick Noad book. These guys aren't doing much for my ego that's for sure. Good Lord.
I had the audio version of this. I can't say I learnt much from it - too advanced for me, but I enjoyed hearing the great JB playing and talking. There was an annoying 'comedian' who kept popping in at various intervals as I recall, presumably to liven things up....
Brilliant. Three great musicians at their best. I have a lot of their recordings. Especially Jeff's solo stuff, and with Bill Bruford. Almost as good a rhythm section as Bill and Tony.
Roddy Pipers appearance should have made it into memes a long time ago, there are hardly any clips from this VHS, if any at all. The guy who played Dick Jones in Robocop is also on it. It must be under some vicious copyright. I saw the VHS in the mid 90s.
Virtuoso playing by everyone, but where's the keyboard sound in the mix ? Well they forgot that totally out and the keyboardist is there only as a mannequin. Even i don't saying that he cannot play in his instrument. This same problem is familiar of many various rock bands, whose live gigs live mixing is a full of distortion guitars and bumb bass drums. But the keyboards sounds you cannot hear, even there is a keyboardist or organ player in the band.
Three absolute musical giants right there
Only 2 ,Jeff’s a massive twat

Same here!
Came for the article, staying to watch Chandler Bing shred on that guitar.
Same here
What a great ensemble. Berlin owns the bass guitar. And Vinnie... scares me.
I love how Frank’s wearing an Elektric Band concert T-shirt! Always faithful!
i have that same shirt
Vinnie slays. Even if i am a bass player i come often to this video for vinnie.
Jeff, please get a hold of these guys again and make an up to date quality studio recording of this piece. It is awesome!
Affy Ahmad sure. This piece is called "raunchy raunch jam" lol
A foolish request
@@webstercat Why is it a foolish request? And what the hell kind of attitude is that?

I met Frank G at a vital information down in L A some years ago. Great player!!!
Love Frank's Modal Magic Series years back. Still have the lessons from the magazine and his recordings. So helpful!!!
Jesus that bass is piercing thru the mix. So much a good tone.
c"Mon give me more than that 1.48 min& sec's, damm!!
😳 I’ve been watching this for over two decades and it still amazes me.
This is absolutely smokin', Vinnie and Jeff together are like a turbo steam train coming at ya'
I think he wrote for guitar magazines back in the '80's. Anyway he's just beyond great
...

Jeff Berlin, the best...!!
I've always loved this clip
I didn't even know these guys KNEW each other. How did this get under my radar, ans why is there only like 90 seconds of it!?!?!
That's when I knew I wanted to be a bass player
Espectacular!!

É um show ou vídeo-aula?
That kinda mullet and those dark aviator glasses on Vinnie....totally 80s!
By the way, the pianist is named Ron Reinhardt. It would be great if you can update the title to include him too, cheers...
You can barely hear keys in the mix
@@jampoles "Mark Bogan" is actually Ron Reinhardt's mother.
I didn't even realize there was a keyboard player until he appeared on screen... That's pretty sad.
only keyboard player know this.
this is from other planet... amazinggggggg...i love...
Jeff's bass line is PUMPIN' !!! (pun intended !!!)
jeff berlin... AAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYYYYY yeahhhh
Only Jeff Berlin could rock a leotard top, jeans, and a sport coat and no one would care.
"I care."--Luke Skywalker
Killer groove
still love it!!
This reminds me of the movie Revenge of the Nerds. Not every musician is born to rock.

Dream team!❤🎶
Pure joy, pure energy!
these guys are rippin!!!
The delay on Frank Gambale’s guitar sound makes it sound SO much better than the terribly dry style he’s been doing since.
my mind and ears are melting
Oh yeah - three of the best at what they do... Period. End of discussion
AMAZING!!!
Jeff has a monster bass tone going on there! 😎
Lol
so sad we never got to hear jeff and vinnie with zappa’s band. imagine what could’ve been…
Not human. Ridiculously-good.
Keyboards are totally lost in the mix! Dang.😮
Absolutamente increible! como se llama este tema?
Very cool pace...locked down and loaded...very nice...✊😷
Pure gold.

There must be a full length version of this jam somewhere....anyone found it?
I am on the hunt. No luck so far. Even contacting people with the Jeff Berlin Music Group. Still no results 😢.
Hope that never happens. That was awful.
