    Minor correction: Needles Overlook road is WEST of 191, NOT east. There is a sign from both directions on 191. Amazing I get anywhere with my sense of direction !!!

    It's been decades since I spent a week at the Needles overlook. I guess my priorities are different than other people's. It seemed strange to watch people arrive at the overlook, get out, enjoy the view for 5 minutes, get back in and drive away. Parks have ranger talks and for a week I was the only person to attend them. I still remember what I learned that week. Life has its ups and downs but that was a high point for me.

    I love how you alternate expansive views with closeups. Best closeup: yucca plants with curly fibers peeling from the leaf edges contrasting with the wavy almost water-flowing look of dried wood (5:03).

    You the man, Slim! Very nice video, close to mesmerizing for me. Utah is so gorgeous; when I was there I wanted to pick up every rock for my back home garden LOL!! I took a college elective course in geology and I am still interested at 72. Used to love going into the field and never wanting to go back home. If I had it to do over, I would have majored in Geology. Would not have made the money that I was fortunate enough to make, but may well have been happier. I have my sights set for another journey into Utah and go admire some more of this fantastic geological beauty. Stay safe Slim!

    At 62 and after hiking some 4000 mls including parts of AT and PCT I was looking to get off the ground when I went to bed and saw an Aliner in a campground this spring. I've taken my newly purchased Scout on a few local trips and find it to be just what I need. I am looking forward to 4 weeks out in the Rock Mtn states this summer. Being new to this type of travel and camping your videos are very informative and enjoyable and have inspired some minor modifications of my own. John C Jupiter FL

I HAVE A MOTOR HOME AND AS A WOMAN I HAVE NOT FELT SAFE TO BOONDOCK BUT I DO LOVE THE RED ROCKS OF ARIZONA AND THE SOUTHWEST AS WELL AS WYOMING, MONTANA AND IDAHO. AND WE CERTAINLY CANNOT FORGET THE COAST HIGHWAY THROUGH CALIFORNIA, OREGON AND WASHINGTON. SAFE TRAVELS AND KEEP THE VIDEOS COMING.

    That’s some beautiful shots from up there. Especially the morning view of the Needles. Maybe better than my best, and believe me I have tried many times. I camp up there whenever I can. I have been trying to keep this place secret for quite some time. BTW, I picked out the color of the walkways when they last redid them 25 years ago. I too thought the same, it reminded me of Butch Cassidy seeing Jeeps roaming around at night out there. But it’s been years since I’ve seen one.

    Awesome video.... I know you camp safely.... but seeing you park by the edge of a cliff bad scenario's come to mind.... for me I would of set the outriggers, logs under the tires, parking brake set if so equipped.... and a huge log chain attached to the frame of the trailer buried to a concrete block weighing several tons in the dirt under the trailer.... I could proly sleep then.... LOL ... :) p.s. regarding cost of camping and travel.... for years I joked that the boy scouts should have a merit badge for the scouts..... ( the R.V. merit badge ) passing the merit badge would require the scout to prove that he can camp for under 75.00 per day..... with a full size 37 foot motorhome.... including emerald 3 generator set.... LOL :)

    Hate to bring up an old video but I've just been watching yours like a playlist! Great stuff so far. I live in Utah and still can't get over the views everywhere.
    I know you had mentioned at the end about your computer battery. I thought I'd share some ideas that I've used in the past for camping.
    Everytime I go camping I bring with me my 18000 maH car jumper/power bank. It was purchased on amazon and will charge a phone from dead probably about 20 times. I bring it on my camping trips as a back up power source. No actual plug connections but USB ones. It also came with a universal computer charging set of about 15 differnet plugs. I have used it before to charge a computer when needed. Its small, compact and light so it doesn't take up a whole lot of space. Plus it's nice to have a little ease of mind to use to jump your car battery if need be! Hope it helps and happy camping!

    • @SlimPotatohead
      @SlimPotatohead  7 лет назад

      Hi Aydan, Thanks for the tip! What specific power pack are you using? Does it charge from the vehicle's 12V outlet or just 110V? Always looking for the best alternatives. My last battery booster froze and leaked battery acid in my garage, so am actually looking for something different. Thanks Again!

    • @aydan3134
      @aydan3134 6 лет назад

      I will have to double check the make and model for mine. Mine offers 12v and 110v so can be charged either way. I stumbled across this one on amazon which is twice my power and has build in AC plug. Little pricey but might be worth it.

    Our Needles Overlook story...
    My wife and I are from Vancouver Island in Canada.
    Several years ago we took a Grand Canyon river cruise... toured Utah along the way with our little Lee-sure Lite pop-up tent trailer. Spent a few days enjoying the National Parks around Moab. On our last day, I asked the front desk staff what we could see on our way out of town. They replied: "Needles Overlook" and gave us some directions.
    Now they didn't get into the specifics of what it was. So, in our minds, we're imagining some sort of small valley below us with hoodoos or some similar structures in middle of it.
    Even when you leave the main highway and drive out to Needles Overlook, you can only see flat fields around you. Our expectations were pretty low. So we were gobsmacked when we came across this breathtaking vista that stretched out below us from horizon to horizon and as far as the eye could see.
    I keep a photo/travel blog... my write up and a couple of photos of Needles...

    great video. Get one of those 12v power converters. I use one for my laptop in my camper. On a regular 27 group RV battery you can use a typical laptop non-stop for at least two days. For software, Corel VideoStudio is quite decent and inexpensive.

      I'm camped about 100 ft. over from your spot. Been here for 4 days and only had 1 tent camper stay the night and left early the next morning. I suppose the 100-105 F temps. are the reason why I've seen so few camping😁👍.........Incredible spot that I'll definitely return to in cooler weather. Added side note, I'm getting a 2-3 bar ATT 4G signal with my external antenna/hotspot. Phone is marginal depending on where I'm standing. Awesome Ham Radio spot, thanks for steering me to a new area. Hope you're having a fantastic summer.

    Love the videos. Was wondering if you had any run ins with the venomous creatures in the drier states. Rattle snakes and scorpions are in a few of those states and you hike around so u must of run into something? That's why I want to tour thoes states. Lol

      Hi Dennis, In the cold months they all hibernate. In June or July you should see them. Thanks!
