18 seconds in, I started grinning ear to ear instinctively, she just lit a spark within me. Her a whole demeanour and confidence is truly inspirational. I’m sure she’s had bad days like everyone, but her ability to adapt and recognise what needs change etc and keep pushing. I’m just truly happy to learn from someone like her.
What a great interview. Hits home! I used to be a Doctor in the NHS. I was on a low wage (£1759 per month) overworked. Depressed. Decided to get a job in finance. Realised that I had a lot of transferrable skills. My salary starting was £2700 per month net. This lady has hit the nail on the head! Get into the room. Show them what you can do. Your past work experiences will back you up
Congratulations on successfully moving roles, that’s a big achievement! Agreed, once you’re in the room that’s your opportunity to demonstrate your transferable skills!
I took a live course she did over a year ago. I applied what she taught on the course just before my annual pay review and got the pay rise I was looking for. Don't sleep on her!
14mins in and hearing “ I never got the job, she told me stick to what I’m doing and then I applied for 2 other jobs, the same woman headhunted me 2 years later” if that’s not big movesss I dunno!🙌🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
8 minutes, In, I felt everything she said as manager, I have experience everything this lady has said, ie meetings, training, and interviews etc. Born in the north of England, Manchester and moved to the south as a teenager, Peckham. I can fully relate ✊🏽👊🏽💯🙏🏾
Make notes - there's a lot of gold in the nuances from the experience Adelle is sharing. I'm 16 years in my career and I've made a lot of mistakes and been a learning curve and appreciate and realise everything that is mentioned here
This was an AMAZING episode. Gave me a massive confidence boost and reminded me of a few negotiation tips that I used to use and stopped. Love her energy. Thank you for bringing her on. Going to share this with friends.
Respect, Respect, Respect Adelle! This was amazing, I though i knew all the interview tips and tricks what an insight! Please come back to this channel. .. I grew up in Harlesden also braap braaap! :D
This was hands down amazing!!! Literally had me at the edge of my seat throughout the whole video. Also reminded me of techniques that I also used for my last interview. SOLID advice throughout 🙌 Definitely need a part 2.
Bless her, love her confidence. As a fellow Jamaican who's been here in UK for just two years, working at Tesco this interview just open my eyes to a whole new world...keep these information coming loving your content.
This is a really good podcast and great guest! I just shared it with a few of people. Very entertaining, insightful and I've learnt loads! Keep up the good work! 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿
Still watching and getting amazing insight! I do wish we had a follow up question on how to reach out to people on LinkedIn and ask them about salary in their role. I always think, if they don’t know you and you’re asking something like that why would they feel the need to give you that. You know in the UK people don’t like to talk about salaries as it is lol
This was mad. What a great moment and of course she is right. I’ve been looking for new role since two year ago I changed my description of my resume and I have more than 7 offers. Mad but when I watched this interview I definitely know why 😅.
I love being a problem solver too. I love her intelligence. I could speak to her for hours😂I loved this and she makes me very proud because it should be common sense but not common practice and I learnt something new also. The Corporate world is full of hidden knowledge which we should know but are not taught in school who do the career advice to prepare you for after school. Unfortunately, schools are not coping at all after the Pandemic.
Love this. Personally, I went through this recently myself with the salary negotiation. When asked what's your salary expectation is? My response is always I am flexible and open, let's get to know each other more as we go through this process. Just what was mentioned on this, I never like to apply to roles that do not have salary displayed, as I don't like to waste my time but sometimes there is gold at the end of those as it was for me, so I wouldn't personally rule those ones out after my experience. When they are really in to you and they make an offer that for me is the best time to Negotiate as they say when your stock is the highest. I received a 45% pay rise and did not even negotiate, and based on market and glassdoor, this was way above market value, especially for my experience. Personality matters a lot, in my opinion. People open and willing to learn are great for some companies. Sometimes, part of negotiation is knowing when not to negotiate. What I was offered was way more than I would have asked for. I am Greatful and hope this helps someone out. Best of luck out there
Thanks for tuning into the podcast and appreciate the kind feedback! From my understanding a sign on bonus, is when a potential employer would give you a bonus upon joining the company. Accenture used to do this for their graduate scheme. I hope that helps
I experienced the same in Harrow near Hillingdon. The racism and difference was real. Most of my friends were white, Jewish and some Asians, they all had money. That helped me to navigate different social economic experiences beyond my friends from NW London.
The annual leave thing is so true, I took a 30k pay rise, but my annual leave days went from 25 days to 20 days. You have to calculate the ENTIRE package worth. Loved this convo, learnt some new things also
@@savvywallet after listening to your older episodes I realised you turned it down recently 😂 I often listen in noisy environments so I notice it quickly when I have AirPods in, as opposed to my big noise cancelling headphones. Appreciate the consideration though 👊

As a internal recruiter for 10+ years at some of the largest tech companies globally as well as some mid size and startups, there is so much mis-information here.. negotiating annual leave.. recruiters pay/bonus being associated with how much 'budget" they save on hiring.. what a joke.
@@kooliecurlz93 Not sure what to say in terms of correcting it. It is the case in likely 90%+ of Orgs in the UK that Annual Leave is a blanket policy and non-negotiable, there may be room to negotiate things like unpaid leave as these are often used in special circumstances and not monetary, or some employers will allow you to purchase additional leave etc.. but they are often national set policy. Like I said maybe smaller organisations may give you some flexibility here because less is set in stone, but I'd think its unlikely. I had a look at the organisations Adelles worked for and I'd think its likely they may have more flex as they're quite small. In terms of what recruiters internally are aimed at on bonuses and pay rises etc.. its around things like hires per year vs our target, diverse candidates hired and in pipeline, NPS scores from candidates. Salaries we offer quite often recruiters get less sway on than you think, it tends to be HR and the hiring manager that will make decision on salary and we will often make a suggestion. If the budget for the role type is a range of 55k-65k, I have absolutely 0 incentive to offer you 50k if you told me your current is 40k. The only thing it might tell me is that maybe you are underpaid vs market average, maybe we pay more competitively than your employer, potentially you are more junior than expected (if this is the first conversation) and maybe this role is a step up for you, so in going to aim to offer you mid-percentile of that offer range maybe the 55k-58k mark, because its likely you will be In this role on average for 1-2 years and we want to make sure you see some salary growth in this time e.g. up to the 65k. If I offered you 65k its likely you would get very little increases or just inflationary adjustments. . People should also realise that different employers pay very different based on the sector, industry or financial health of the company. Example.. me as a tech recruiter when I worked for a FANG company I was paid over £100k as a lead recruiter.. when I worked for a large telecoms provider I was paid closer to 80.. but I was doing the same job... different industries can't afford the same just because the title is the same.
So basically majority of what she said is correct you just don't agree? She pretty much broke down the same thing about salary, except you said there is no incentive and she said people should know their worth and not be taken advantage of. I appreciate you responding because it's good to know both sides of things. @@wowcherub
I’ve been in recruitment 10 years, I own my own agency, never once has negotiating annual leave been a thing. However reiterate the above that I only deal with global matrix organisations, maybe small firms allow that flexibility but otherwise not heard of. I have not listened to this podcast as it has no value add for me but this person is correct. Internals don’t have much say in package as it’s signed off with compensation and benefits and HR, internal talent Aquisition are just funnelling candidates into the company. Agency side yes we try to get maximum on salary as we charge a % of that. Anyway, I hope there are legit gems to be had in this, I make a lot of money owning a recruitment company, if I didn’t, I may consider chatting fraff on podcasts to pay my bills.
