I’ve never liked the studio version of this song but Whitney’s live vocals in the performance are prob the greatest of ALL time. This isn’t trainable talent…this is ANOINTED talent.

BUT, everyone was there for Whitney, who closed the show, with this number.... - ....Old farts like me know this already, but it should be mentioned....***GEORGE BENSON*** was the originator of this tune; He performed it for a 1977 documentary on Muhammad Ali, dedicated to young (black) children finding strength within themselves, to succeed; Whitney actually got to sing it FOR Muhammad, which George never got to.... - ....the tune was the next to last Song, added for her Debut Album; Clive Davis didn't like the sparse original arrangement, but, Whitney insisted...actually, it was on the B Side of "You Give Good Love" FIRST, because it wasn't scheduled as a single...when it was re-released as a single, it was remixed, and Whitney went back into the studio and re-sung it STRONGER, for 'Pop' Radio play...Of COURSE, it became a #1 smash..... - THEN, the Album was re-issued Spring 1986, REPLACING the original version (along with the 2nd version of "How Will I Know"), and became known as "The 1986 version"; The CD Deluxe anniversary edition added it back in...... ...and, HERE, was when it hit #1, May 1986; the Month after the writer of the tune (Linda Creed), passed away..... 10.
