A common error seen in oral exams 【思います vs 思っています】

  • I often hear Japanese learners say 思います when 思っています should be used. It is not a BIG problem, but learning what the Verb+ます and Verb+ています are actually used for is still important for learners, I thought. I hope the explanation in this video makes sense to you.
    *As you may know, Japanese “tenses” are not exactly the same as English “tenses”, even though they are called using the same names, “Present Tense”, “Present Continuous Tense”, etc.
