THE RITCHIE REVIEW - Porsche Macan S - Inconceivably good used car. 2015 - 2022.

- The Macan S is arguably the most exhilarating SUV on the planet, and from the Porsche Experience Centre in Silverstone, Howard Ritchie takes to road and track to find out more.
Among the drives, he tries every Porsche they make in order to contextualise the Macan driving experience and we catch up with what he thought of the car on the road and off road.
Remarkably the Macan can virtually drive upside down as well as handle like a 911, and so every one is right, this car is simply brilliant.
The S Version which starts at £43,000 approximately hosts 340hp and has a 0-60 time of 5.4 seconds, but it is the way that the power is delivered across the rev range which truly impresses. That and incredible soundtrack!

This review is spot on. I bought a Porsche Macan S one month ago in Denver, CO where during winter months we don’t salt or sand and rarely plow the streets. It is an amazing car. I have no criticisms. Seating, steering and cornering are all like a sports car. The transmission shifts so quickly and precisely it reminds me of a dragonfly. Sport mode is real: the car immediately downshifts, drives up RPM 1,000 into it’s max torque range and the car takes off like a high-end sports car. I’ve owned BMWs previously and am grateful to Porsche for bringing the Macan S for us to experience. Oh, and all the buttons other reviewrs disparage? They’re perfect: one button, one function. No searching through electronic menus to distract you from driving. Well done Porsche.
how is the seating for people over 6' in height?
WCHOMES I am 5’10” and have plenty of space in front and back. Worth dropping into the dealership to test drive.
@@wchomes106 I'm s giant at 6'6 and I have more room than I ever could have imagined. The car is perfect in every way. Porsche engineers hit a grand slam with this one
Just bought a macan s today and it's incredible in every aspect. It really is the jack of all trades and it masters a few areas as well
Another great review!
Great review, I am waiting for my Macan!
A long time in the edit but well worth waiting for :-) Another great review from HR in a Car !
Hack job :) thanks handsome.
This review is spot on.
I purchased a Porsche Macan S several months ago in Denver, CO where during winter the roads are not salted or sanded and the roads are often unplowed. The Macan S is fast and nimble. Steering and seating feel like a sports car. The transmission is amazing and shifts gears with such agility it reminds me of a dragonfly. Sports mode is real: suspension immediately tightens, transmission downshifts two gears, RPMs rise over 1,000 into peak torque range and the car flies. And all the buttons? Perfect. The appearance is elegant and they serve one function per button. No complicated computer screen navigation to operate the car’s core functions. I’ve owned two BMWs. I am grateful to Porsche for bringing their engineering to a car that a working person can use in all weather on weekdays and weekends alike and not wish he was in a different vehicle. Well done.
Some say his voice is made from the feathers of baby owls and that he once punched Morgan Freeman for sounding too common.
All we know is; he's called Howard!
I know I'm kinda randomly asking but does anybody know a good place to watch newly released movies online ?
@Dalton Jameson lately I have been using FlixZone. Just google for it :)
@Hunter Abdiel definitely, I have been using FlixZone for months myself :)
@Hunter Abdiel Thank you, I went there and it seems to work :D Appreciate it!
@Dalton Jameson You are welcome xD
Great review love Porsche Macan.
After 6 years with my Macan I have no regrets. Like you say, it can do it all.
what a brilliant review!
Excellent review.
great review thanks
I practically watch every good car channel on RUclips, & you Sir are underrated... nuff said! Oh... & I subscribed too :-)
No pressure then! :) Thanks mate. I will rely on you to champion me when people start calling me a F*&*wit
You have so much freaking potential!
And the comment of the month goes too......
Great review.. of a promising product.. +1
Great Review. I picked up my Macan S yesterday.
someone's earning...
Great review. I am now finally convinced this is the car to get over a GLC 43 as it has been built from scratch to be a sports SUV unlike the GLC range in general. Great job !
Thanks and a good point, there is a massive difference in resale on these too, the GLC will not fetch the same.
Awesome mate, just awesome.
Thanks Belly ups
Hi Howard, you have won yourself a loyal subscriber :)

BOOOOM... saving that one for the troll balance
I've not owned a Porsche before, but, in February 2018 placed an order for the new, facelifted Macan S (not realising how long it would take !) I'm really looking forward to 2019 !
The wait hasn't come down? I live in Canada and had ordered one on Dec 6/14 and had to wait until Jul 30/15 but was of the belief that the wait time had since been reduced.
@@Darren51283 7 months seems just bearable; but because mine's going to be the new model (the new S still hasn't been revealed yet), I'm having to wait 14 months (told I'll probably get mine at the end of April 2019 !)
I hope you never stop making car reviews, this is absolutely top tier !
Hi, can someone tell me what´s the songs name at the background?
Great review...did this model have pasm with or without air? Cheers
Correct... you need both those - well spotted. No air and PASM without it - ... not so good!
Subscribed. Done.
Great review. I ordered one for my wife but was still unsure about the premium price tag (ordered the turbo with all the toys just in case I ever get to drive). This review seems to justify the larger budget. Thanks
Certainly does, Chalk and Cheese mate.
What consumption does this have ?
@Mr Snuffleupagus very poor !
The Macan S remains to be, by far and away, the very best value from Porsche, especially if you don't get sucked into a myriad of expensive (and unnecessary) options such as (one of) the upgraded sound systems (believe me, the standard offering has fantastic sound), larger wheels and tires (which just results in diminished ride quality), seats with even more aggressive bolstering (seriously, it's an SUV, not a GT3) and a moon roof (adds 100+ pounds in the worst possible location and reduces rear seat headroom to substandard). I ordered (and took delivery of) one with just the Premium package, 14-way power seats, roof rails and sport chrono and feel guilty in that I suspect that they loose money on customers like me. I'm like the guy who doesn't order expensive frills when eating out such as drinks and deserts, given how these extras can quickly double the bill.
This my sound silly, but I do not like the steering wheel. I can't find a comfortable position. I was hoping it would be more like my 2016 GTI. The good news however is that it does everything else very well.
Wow... that is odd... patient seat moving might do the trick.
I own a Macan GTS...while very sporty...It does NOT hold the road like a 911....These reviewers need to stop saying that. Its very nice to drive and certainly holds the road better than every single competitor....911 it is NOT.
I think its a simile buddy, drawing comparison metaphorically, I think it was meant as my first reaction, and feeling. If the 911 was high up, it would do :) I have noted a few people saying it, perhaps its an easy win comment... noted. I had no time crew or script, these were just my stunned beliefs. Good of you to watch. I also drove the 911 Turbo S on the day - of course you are right.
It's kind of like a 911 on stilts that feels a bit wobbly. Steering is not as tight thats a fact. Handling is amazingly good for.....a suv. No it's not a 911 but it's in a class by itself that's for sure. I owned a 911 with 6 spd manual for 6 years and just bought a macan s. As a reference point.
macan
Matey one massive flaw in your approach, seriously too short!! Get on touch with Chris Harris, he needs a decent logical side kick.
I'm not Louis Theroux :) And anyway Harris is on BBC time now.
"Off road like a Range Rover"?
Yeh remarkably good probably not Vogue but - was very surprised at this this will go properly on its side.
Hey Howard - amazing voice indeed but you should try to be more picky. It sounds like an advertorial!! Check what Matt does, I know you like him...
Hardly. I was in awe dude.
I want one of these. Want want need need want. When Porsche gives me one for being nice and says you can come for lunch in it on the insurance. Do you still want me to find something negative? :)
I will do some if I cover Matt's holiday or do some Auto Express or something mate. Just for you...hows that.. ?
HR in a Car that would be amazing and everything would be forgotten. I kinda rave about owning a porsche too btw, i'm not that kind of hater ;)
For the dramatic effect, I'd learn to hate something even in the perfect car. I have an 335i coupe and I love it with tears in my eyes. I also hate that the steering is so heavy at low speed. Why BMW, why?
Same here on the 535d dude. Selling it. Can't bear it.
HR in a Car is 530d better? I have some fantasies with a 5er...
hm..... you mean vs 245hp Macan? hm Well ... hard one... 530d feels quicker, harder seats past 2013, so the Macan wins there, 530d cheaper, better nav, Macan better residuals, rare, more soul and spirit. If they were same price Macan all day long.
You sound like Radio 2 legend Steve Wright, but look like disgraced DJ Dr Neil Fox. I'm all confused. Great reviews though :)
Can you imagine the mess if it was the other way round!?
Pfft. How we learned to control a skid like that? Gta. Misspent childhood indeed...
Sainsburys Car Park
HR in a Car that's the difference between you gen x people and us xennials/millenials! We hooned it round the old dual carriage way in a volvo estate, but learned the death defying stuff in the safety of gta!
ha....
I test drove the 5 cylinder today, don't even bother. The Honda CRV is a better drive.
Realllly????
4 cylinder I meant and yes, it sucked but guess what? I may just get it because I want the badge!! My Acura RDX drives better than this!
no. not really. he is on drugs.
@@thestefsterbun1820 Exactly!!! Just Say No!
Prone to exaggeration, much!?
Bullshit, off road on hills that slip?
Why do brits all mispronounce Porsche as “Porsh”. 🤮
Dr Ferdinand Porsche knew how to pronounce his name and it wasn’t “porsh”.
And what’s a British car review without at least one:
“ab-so-lute-ly brilliant”?
Feeling cheated.
What a load of rubbish. Bought and paid for by Porsche.
Lol is that how RUclips works is it?
