Doing a very similar engine build right now for my track wagon. m54b30, 272 256 cams, m50 intake "port matched", headers, upgraded oil pump " 5 bolt and builder shaft", stock oil filter housing with the oil cooler cap and in line thermostat. What are you making for power? Wanna know what I should expect.
Limiter is set at 7,000rpm with peak power just before that. I do however have the VAC motorsport valve springs and retainers in the head too. Do you have a dyno graph of yours with ITB’s?

You sure it only has 264hp? A 2.8 with schrick cams can make 260-270 hp, i would expect the 3L to make closer to 300 with schrick cams, considering it has double vanos and bigger displacement
The latest/new engine which is the same spec made 270bhp on a reliable dyno. Those figures are right for the spec, to see closer to 290 you need ITB’s. Then higher compression and bigger cams to get over 300.

Power between 260-280bhp depending on set up. I'm still ironing out a few things with mine to do with cam timing and mapping.

Do you have an oem bmw thermostat and do you have an oil cooler?
Yes. 16 Row oil cooler with standard BMW thermostat with adjustments to the maps that control the E-Thermostat to reduce oil and coolant temps.
