- The visuals were created by Andy Welch, a data scientist at The World Bee Project.
The remix was created by DJ/Music Producer Omri Anghel. Omri has been immersed in NYC nightlife since the mid-90s, and chooses to embrace new approaches to sounds, by adopting technological advances to tell stories through audio.
Andy Welch on the visuals: “The video was created from images generated entirely using machine learning. I used Ryan Murdock's excellent Big Sleep and Deep Daze projects to create thousands of brand new images based purely on the song lyrics. The models were run multiple times to generate sequences of images, and the output which best reflects the songs haunting lyrics were then combined using Python image morphing to create the final version.”
Omri Anghel on the remix: “This remix celebrates the ways machines have helped shape our lives and have guided us to create and live ours on the dance floor.”

The way they made it is actually cheating, most of the work was done by humans, the music 100% was made by humans. The only thing they had an AI do was use predictive text to generate a couple hundred sentences based off all the text in eurovision songs. From those couple hundred, they chose the ones that were actually somewhat coherent or sounded like lyrics then they smashed them together into whatever order until it sounded like lyrics. They then hired an actual singer to perform the lyrics and had a whole cast of musicians on backup to make it truly catchy...
It's an AI in the sense that predictive text on your phone is an AI that learned from your typing habits but if you try it out you'll see how limited and nonsensical that usually turns out. It would be cool if it was 100% AI made but then they would be able to pump out thousands of songs with no effort whilst this is the only one they released. Making lyrics is kind've the easy part so they still had tons of human intervention for this to be possible. It's hella catchy tho so props for that at the very least. The animations get the weird AI vibe right too...
That is why it is so frightening😬

When I heard the song I thought it was a breakup song, but somehow the visual A.I. knew that then the lost love died, which makes much more sense. Why can a mindless thing figure that out?
