Holy cow. I have been using every whiny, crybaby, get me out of this, head for the hills, tenaciously imagining how procrastinating with negative self talk will somehow help me write. I must be a real writer and I amazed myself with my own vigorous wholehearted denial ( lol). Thank you for sharing your wisdom! Xoxo
Great video! Trying to push myself back into writing & just found your channel. I like the 5 minute rule for building back habits, do it 5 minutes everyday, you'll quickly find yourself doing it for longer & longer periods!
Glad it was helpful! People must write out of passion. But I agree with you completely--the passion should be fueled by good habits. Habits, by their nature, are not automatic. They take time and tenacity to build, and the result is worth the effort.
"If I don't write then I can't fail." At least that's what my brain would tell me. Lol No thanks... I'd rather fail. At least I'll learn a few things along the way. Great video!
I think having a discipline in writing is of a major importance, but, even with it, sometimes you can get nothing out of your blank page when you write fiction. Discipline can avail you in writing crime and thriller books, you can sit early in your office and schedule more often your work hours. Fiction, indelible fiction, I'm afraid you have to write it with blood.
Many writers agree with you, but, sorry, I'm not one of them. "Writing with blood" is a romantic notion. Regardless of genre, we all write with our brains, not blood. When we prepare our minds, and keep them focused, we are capable writing brilliant things without sweating blood.
@@VelocityWriting I wish I could be wrong and you could be right. For some weeks now the harder I try to write the lesser I change the blank page's stare!
I respect what you're saying. But your page is blank because you think that ideas come at the moment your fingertips touch the keyboard. On the other hand, I think the brain is geared to process data and benefits from an outline, even a rudimentary one. Prime for the pump, so to speak. @@VelocityWriting it is very instructive and inspiring too, thank you. Yet you haven't illustrated the subconscious share of this prepared preprogrammed mind processing. I think the subconscious is the corner's stone. When it gives you a lot you are as much stunned yourself with the quality of your writing as your would be critics and readers. Subconscious is like a hat where you put priorly a rabbit 🐰 in to take out an elephant 🐘 too !
I agree totally. I keep saying writers must "load their brain" and let it work. That is the subconscious process at work. An outline aids the human brain by "indexing" the storehouse of undifferentiated data it holds. I keep my subconscious loaded with relevant data, have an outline, and that's why I have not faced a blank page in many decades. Serendipity is favored by a prepared mind.

I love you, Sir! That was very helpful.
I am watching this when really I should be writing.
Exactly!
Me too!

You got the point! Thank you for your kind remark about the video.
