Wow great analysis and so revealing too. I guess the writer can't help but use writing as a mechanism to work out all his issues, or at any rate they can't be hidden
This is what I wanted absolutely my type of content I’m just entered in the field of writing and trying to put my words on blogs (entertainment & media) and after watching this I can assure that I’ll write the right things 🙂🤝
I've heard Anne Rice say, (paraphrasing), to achieve success in writing, write about your greatest fear. Now writing is therapeutic for me in many contexts, but even thinking about my greatest fear brings me to the brink of complete collapse. So, I don't know how I could bring myself to write about it.
Question: At now 77 I have been told since childhood I "write good". However, I have never become a "good writer". I have come to believe that is because I am a poor reader. Almost all of what I write is based on what I have seen and heard.
Yeah, I said that. Did you watch to the end of the video? The idea is that we write what is within us. We write out of our human experience. Reading widely helps us to magnify our experience by benefiting from the experiences of others. Books compress time so we can get more experience in a shorter time, and without the travails, travels and other impediments to getting experience the old-fashioned hard way. Glad you are writing at 77! Keep at it.
@@VelocityWriting Thanks for responding. My sister, who has Master in Special Ed, told me once that some people's brains are so 'wired' as to be unable to 'use' what they read, and rely on verbal and visual clues. She was talking about me,, too bad it came years after I'd been such a poor student!
Hi David, don't give up if you want to be a writer. Just sit down and start with whatever is in your mind. Don't stop to think about it, let what is inside of you flow out to the blank page. Don't stop to read it until your hand hurts! I believe you have something important to say. You've experienced a lot in your 77 years...write it down! You Can do it! I believe in your ability to be a successful writer...just begin it now. Think on this, some people haven't been published until they were in their 80's or 90's! You have nothing to lose! Just do it!
@@georgiafrancis9059 Thank you for confirming. I urge you and David to view my related videos. The only minor point of disagreement is that I believe age has nothing to do with it. Young children need to be encouraged to write just as much as older people. ruclips.net/video/WxTTh-NRAnw/видео.html ruclips.net/video/OvNboglD0tk/видео.html
Hey epic video!! I love Steven King, especially On Writing and The Dark Tower! Subscribed! Our channels are pretty similar, we should support each other!
Thank you for your comment, Meso. However, I'm not sure of your point. I reported that King, a rich, famous, popular writer said drugs nearly killed his creativity, his family life, and sent him to the grave. Only an intervention saved him. Huge numbers of other writers, artists, and musicians agree with King's perspective. That perspective should be important to all creative people. In an age of science, I'd say we need to discard the mythology that alcohol and drugs enhance creativity. They commonly dull creativity, mask fear and depression, and too often end in addiction. www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/recovery-life/201007/myth-about-alcohol-drugs-and-creativity Plus, as writers with a clear mind know, writing itself is the greatest high. It’s nice to hear something new on King. Thank you for your insight and positive twist on our traumas as motivation to write
You earned yourself a subscriber. Bravo!
Thank you.

Interesting take on King.
Thanks for this :)

"Write sober, edit drunk."
I thought I was the only one who reversed Hemingway's old advice.

Would love to hear more about new authors
Could you make 3-5 suggestions for me to consider? I'd appreciate that.

I thought this was meant to be all about writing, not advice on taking drugs.
