  • CINCINNATI -- The offseason is here a lot sooner than the Bengals had hoped after not making the playoffs for a second straight season. Lou Anarumo and 3 assistants have been shown the door and several critical decisions need to be made on Ja'Marr Chase, Tee Higgins and Trey Hendrickson as well as the offensive and defensive lines. Where do they start? Trags and Skinny discuss in the latest episode of the Jungle Roar Pod.

    Saying that Lou hasn't turned any of the like 10 top 100 picks that Lou got for the D over the past 4 years into serviceable players isn't the defense you both seem to think it is. It was indefensible IMO to bench Battle for Bell after Bell got cut by Carolina and it was indefensible to keep starting Sam Hubbard fresh off a reconstructed ankle and a major hamstring tear. Lou should have been fired LAST YEAR for thinking Nick Scott was a serviceable starter and keeping Battle on the bench as long as he did.

      Exactly. How much better the defense looked when they dropped the dead weight from the starting lineup was the nail in his coffin

    Trags is right. In 25 could definitely be there in end ...but off-season needs handled right.

    13:54 cringe... What happened to the illegal formation penalities that were called, what, a dozen times against the ravens in their game with chiefs only to never be called again on any tram allyear. This league is fixed and fixed for one team. Just type in "chiefs" and "controversial call" or "controversy" and see how many different teams and games you get. Its a rigged sport but people dont care

    If this team actually LEARNS from all of the mistakes it made this year, then next year will be historic.

    Of course they can turn it around in one off-season. They could have been 15-2 as easily as the Chiefs with a virtually infinite combination of 6 different bounces. They also should end up with at least $100M in cap space after cuts and any restructuring. Their offense is 2 good guards away from being near unstoppable.

    It’s the D LINE…it improved as the two rookies improved it gave Hendrickson more pressures and linebacking got better as Hubbard left. Draft a killer linebacker and another huge D Lineman

    2 Guards, 2 IDL, 2 Edge, LB and Cover S (Texas got the best 2 cover grades PFF) ....... Whatever left after Free Agency trade down & get some extra pick in draft..

    totally disagree with some player evals. wilson, pratt, adg are a solid mlb rotation. Ossai took too long to get there but seven good games in a row seems he could start opposite hendrickson. I also think the rooki dts might be solid

    Lou was absolutely not scape goated. Lou got 9 out of the last 10 premium draft picks, and did not play or develop them. This was his worst rated defense, ever. He refused to change his scheme to the strength of his players, or play his younger guys when the vets were aged and slow. The players themselves said that once he simplified his scheme, the game slowed down for them, and that was the Dallas game. Lou moving Dax to safety, never playing him, then putting him in when Bates left set him up for failure. Then he moved him back to CB, and he was the best CB we had this year. Same thing with Myles, who has had a comparable pressure rate to Trey. When Sam went out, and the young guys were played, the defense started to play better. Lou had too much loyalty to his guys and refused to play rookies just like Marvin Lewis, and then didn't simplify or change his scheme to make the best of who he has.

      I guess time will tell if these "top draft picks" develop under the new defensive coordinator. I personally think both of the line coaches were the least effective at their jobs. I think Lou is a scheme guy, you give him guys who can do his scheme you win, guys who need everything dumbed down when they are supposed to be professionals you get this years performance. Who Dey!

    • @Tyranden21
      @Tyranden21 28 дней назад

      @ that doesn't excuse him getting his guys in the draft, and not coaching them up to his scheme. He was given high draft picks to develop into players he could use and trust in his scheme, and his refusal to play them (because that's how they develop), caused them to have this year's performance. A lot of DCs around the league have done more with less. Not to mention, when Lou did change his scheme and simplified it, the players themselves said the defense got better and understood it, and they started performing better immediately afterwards in the Dallas game and onward. If Lou made adjustments earlier in the year, he'd have a job still.

    “Wanting to win” is not NEARLY enough in this league. You need obsession, to be great it’s almost a psychopathic level of obsession with winning.

      Jamarr didn't start the conversation it was the front office and they dropped the ball in trying win the contract talks... the wanted to push guarantees 2 years out and that's ridiculous period... chase came out played all 17 games and proved beyond anyone's stupid opinion that he's HIM AND THEE BEST DAYUM WR IN THE LEAGUE...hands down, period, point blank... triple crown is a short list of players... now because the front office fkd up... yesterday's price ain't the same as today's and it's going to cost them majorly...

    You got to be hard on them to find out their endurance and threshold for pain. If their weak they're cut. Stop babying these guys doing walkthroughs assuming their good.
    Most teams have so many good players it don't matter if they get injured. NEXT UP! NOT THE BENGALS NOT EVER. They got their starters set and if they get injured their season is done!
