Disneyland Experience thank you so much for putting on this event for fans. I regret not being able to attend due to health problems. But it's great you have videos of everything. also, thanks to Disney for the gift pack you sent me for buying one of the first copies of rogue one a star wars story. hopefully wedge and lando are back in the future. thanks Disney! May the force be with you!
Lol. Denis has often expressed his apathy for Star Wars and turned down The Force Awakens. Nice to see he's coming around. Any news of Wedge returning for the next two films?
He turned down The Force Awakens because they offered him once again a mere cameo as Wedge Antilles and not a solid part after all these years in the role. He's an actor no longer a bit part walk-on role young stage actor, as he was back in 1976 or so.
He did the right thing by turning it down. It was a terrible film.
Disneyland Experience this man is a true gentleman!!!!
Episode IX. General Wedge Antilles and Rogue Squadron turn up to save the day....... Please make it happen....
After the First Order blew up the main worlds fueling/supplying the Rebellion, I hardly think they'd worry about age. There were already very few X-wings left. Probably even fewer pilots.
Wedge was always one of my favourites because he wasn't a superhero / Force user; just another pilot doing the dirty work, who happened to be among the fortunate few to survive. As for being "too old", the helmet, goggles, and a bit of makeup / hair colour would mask his age (besides, he does NOT look like he's pushing 70). Heck, Geraldine James portrayed Blue 3 in Rogue One just fine at age 66.
You don't need super strength to fly a starfighter. Basically you use a WIII joystick.
He should be about the same age as Luke/Leia anyway.
Robert Mac yessss
He comes across as a really nice guy. Such a shame that his relationship with Star Wars hasn't been… good.
How?
@@oskargoingplaces5720 him and Alec Guinness weren't into the hype around the movies.
Whos relationship with star wars is good all the time? I relate with dennis even more because his anger. Wedge is my favourite pilot.
It's nice that they have Jabba's taxidermized corpse in the background.
Furious Deep :-D
Everytime he says "you know", I totally see Ewan McGregor.
Yeah... I think he and Ewan is cousin
@@minwoohan4826 , Denis is Ewan's Uncle!!
😆
He is Ewan McGregor's uncle.
perhaps thats just a Scottish thing.
I know he avoided all things "Star Wars" for a long time, and I'm sure he had his reasons (whatever they may be.... none of our business, really). That being said, it's awesome seeing him participating in a Celebration! I hope he's having fun, and it would be fantastic to see him return as Wedge in Episode IX (or even VIII if they can work it out somehow).
With "I'll be back" it seems like he definitely enjoyed the con. He did say this was his first one.
rw:yeah i know right? for just one last battle in one of the upcoming films of starwars in the future^_^.
His reasons are pretty justifiable; Wedge was originally supposed to be a relatively major character and there's a whole bunch of scenes shot with him that were left on the cutting room floor - twice. Happened in A New Hope and Return of the Jedi both. An actor hired to play a major supporting role who got demoted to glorified extra in the editing process is going to be fairly annoyed.
Awesome to see him! I never thought that he would do the autograph circuit. Now I can hope to meet him at the next Celebration. Personally, that would be the _only_ reason for me to attend one again. Who doesn't love Wedge?
Local Hero is great
one of my favorite films
He's really a fine actor too. I've enjoyed everything I've seen him in!
Wedge Antilles, the only pilot that had so many great achievements and rivals soontir fel.
1: saves sabine and Hobbie from a tie fighter teacher.
2: saves luke from a tie fighter.
3: blew up a walker.
4: blew up the damn death star two.
Plus he didn't even break a sweat!
And he's obi wan's uncle
Loved playing as him in Rogue Squadron 2 for GameCube. In which he voiced himself
Wedge Antilles is my favorite pilot
Mine as well!
Wedge you’re my hero! Best damn pilot in the galaxy. I wish you were in the new movies! Thank you Dennis for being wedge and making him the character he is today. Still the best!
Dear Denis, thank you for being "Wedge Antilles" one last time. It was great seeing you again. You have been missed. Many greetings from Berlin, Germany ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
For someone who has been so outspokenly negative about Star Wars for years now, I applaud him for going and doing this. Maybe he's finally realised how much the films are loved and has shaken off his frostiness after so long. Hopefully he might make a cameo in the new movies now as a general or something!
Or he needed the money :-)
Vorath he's said in interviews he's been very busy recently but does like to take part when he can
You could see he was struggling to keep it together.. holding back the tears.. GREAT to see Denis Lawson embrace StarWars fans by coming 2 celebration. StarWars O.G.'s salute.
As a fan of Wedge Antilles I would ask Mr. Lawson, "I know you have your reasons to avoid being attached to Star Wars over the years and I appreciate that. But the fans would love to see you reprise the role for an upcoming movie with a line or two". Mr. Lawson, you are a wonderful actor and very down to Earth and I am glad you finally came back to the Star Wars family even for a brief time. To the only pilot that can say he survived attacks on BOTH Death Stars, we the fans, say thank you!!!
Thanks to Mr. Lawson for attending this year! Love your work in the original series sir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please come back and play Wedge!!!!!
Coming to this event has probably changed the way he views star wars fandom. The star wars community loves him plus... there is also $$$ to be made. Best of both worlds.
I was surprised he turned down the offer to play Wedge in "The Force Awakens". Hopefully, they can put him in Episode IX with a few lines about being away on a different mission.
He has told the press that the role he had been offered in TFA was basically just to stand like a cardboard cutout in the background. Asking an esteemed actor such as Lawson to take such a part is a bit insulting, really.
I would like to see him in episode 9 as a prisoner of war who gets rescued, then goes back to one of the leaders and fight at the end.
omg....thatd be fantastic.
Might I recommend A Star Wars Story-type movie in the vein of the X-Wing book series starring Denis Lawson? It could even fit into the events of Episode VII fairly well.
Wait, really? I assumed he was supposed to be in Lor San Tekka's place.
Well that's a shame they offered him a low-role.
After seeing his change of heart, I hope they put him in Ep 9.
hehe
Holy cow what! Don't think I've ever seen an interview with this guy and now suddenly here he is at celebration. Awesome :)
Very Humble man and boy did he get the American accent down pat!!
Actually, he was dubbed by another actor in Episodes 4 and 5, but used his own accent in Episode 6.
(Fun fact: the actor who dubbed him DID come back to do voice work for "Rogue One").
toddsmitts Actually David Ankrum voiced Wedge in Episode IV and Lawson provided his own American accent in Episodes V and VI.
I'm so very glad he seemed to enjoy himself there, maybe NOW he'll take a cameo role in an upcoming movie
I feel like Wedge Antilles is probably also the most underrated character in Star Wars. Even more so than Tarkin. Sure every big fan of Star Wars knows Wedge, the casuals don't though. It seems like he is one of those characters that didn't reach the legendary status the main cast reached,
Everytime someone asks me who my favorite SW character is, I tell them it is Wedge, so the "casuals" around me know about him :-)
Luke and Wedge's embrace in the SE of Return Of The Jedi still gives me goosebumps!
That intro is possibly the greatest intro, ever of a character! Well deserved. Wedge is ACE !!
In all three original movies, whenever he make a first appearance, he gets such a huge crowd pop.
As someone who was born too late to see the OT in theaters, is this actually true? Wedge Antilles had like 1 minute of total screen time throughout all three movies
It might just be his accent but he seems a lot like his nephew Ewan McGregor when he speaks.
Mokkari77 It's like they're related or something!
lol its because Dennis lawson and Ewan mcgregor ARE RELATED!
No way?
Nephew. His sister is Ewan's mother.
wow.
he should came with his nephew
Ewan is on a worldwide press tour for his new movie. That's most likely the only reason he hasn't been at Celebration.
ClandestineOstrich yes Ewan's brother is an RAF pilot or was and it's rumoured that his call sign is Obi-2
if he came there he just stand and said "hello there.."
I imagine Ewan would have loved to have come to Celebration this year being the 40th anniversary of Star Wars, have a reunion with Hayden and Ian, etc, but he's busy working.
Dang Itshere I got that reference, dunno why that's getting popular nowadays
Great to see Denis. He is part of the Star Wars family and has been away too long.
be good to have him in ep 9
Forget Wedge. See Lawson in 'Local Hero.' Great film.
Or don't forget Wedge, whichever way you like, but do see Local Hero.
:D
Really glad he's back !
YESSS HES COMING BACK
Alright! Way to go Mr.Lawson? It is so good to see you there amongst the fandom and you look great! Hope to see you in the new film(s) as well!
As the world's biggest wedge fan this really made me happy
You'll love the man even more when you realise he's Ewan McGregor's uncle - mother's side.
I knew it. I've read a book about Ewan McGregor, and I couldn't believe it. Of all the X-Wing pilots, Wedge Antilles (movies and also the books) and Tycho Celchu (sadly just the books) are my most beloved ones. I just love them. Thank you, Denis, for doing it one last time. We love you ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️.
Always been my favorite star wars character. Always cool under pressure and incredibly reliable.
Another happy landing
his problem was not wanting to be typecast like Mark Hamill was.
He was just one of pilots... I don't see him getting typecast for his role.
The bigger problem is no one outside of SW fandom heard of Dennis Lawson. If anything he should have embraced it.
Unless you happen to be from the UK and knew him from British television. (although the role I remember him most for was in the Bill Forsyth movie "Local Hero")
It's funny how the last thing he actually achieved was "fame".....
"Nice flying Lando!"
Happy Birthday to Mr.Denis Lawson.9-27-47.Scotland.
Wedge Antilles-Best Wingman in the Galaxy!!:)Local Hero Indeed!!
Just the one guy going WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Kids: That's Ewan's uncle!
Me: Yes, that's Denis Lawson, who plays Wedge.
This is interesting I've known from learning at a young age that George Lucas favorite directing advice was faster and more intense. From a younger age I always noticed wedge Antilles fast and intense acting. Now I know why.the line that always comes to my mind is, "be sure the computer can hit it." And "what about that tower."
Wow, looks like he's actually found a love for Star Wars. Great! Hopefully he'll accept roles in Star Wars that he's offered in years to come.
At the end, he should have said, "I'd love to talk more...but I can't stay with you. Sorry!"
It is just amazing that Denis Lawson even did a convention. I get the feeling he never wanted to be pigeonholed in a famous role.
He should be in one the next movies and so should Billy Dee!
The Return of Rogue Squadron in Episode 9! What a wonderful idea. If done right, it will be the BEST Star Wars movie (followed by ESB)
Fans of Denis Lawson might like to check out his television work from the '80's such as Dead Head and The Kit Curran Radio Show.
Istvan .Vilmos
Oi!
Don Forget The resilient Ex-copper Steve McAndrews on New Tricks
Heartbeat City New Tricks is great.
Wow, great interview, only learned Denis Lawson was Scottish, after learning Ewan Mc Gregor is his nephew, in the space of weeks.
That couple, they are some committed fans Denis mentioned.
Good shot Janson!
The only one that can stand tall with Luke Skywalker? Excuse me Wedge carried the Rebellion on his back this dude is the Rex of the original trilogy
Seriously!
I mention Wedge at my round tables at work.
Everyone laughs...
Boyyyyy they don't know I have an X wing modded out to look like wedges helmet color scheme.
This year brought a lot of important star wars people back into the fold. :')
I think he treated that vapid millenial really well! He didn't slap him once.
Well done Denis, well done.
Baby boomers are horrendous
Bro hates the interviewer for no reason 😂
I was born in Dundee, Scotland in 1971 (live in Canada now) and I just learned that Wedge and The Emperor hung out and went to drama club in my old hood whist I was pooping my pants as a wee bairn LOL!!!!
Cut to the left, I'll take the leader. Form up, but stay alert, we could run out of space real fast.
Damn, he looks spry...Like he could jump right back in the cockpit. And I hope he no longer thinks of these films as "boring" and rejoins the team.
Denis doesn't just ooze awesome, he defines it!
Wedge is such an awesome character wish we saw him more in the films.
Oh my goodness, I was not expecting his voice to sound like that.....
I'm sorta Old. I was born in 1985 but I when kids grew up wanting to be Luke. I wanted to be Ace Pilot Wedge who survived all three movies.
This is a surprise, to say the least - particularly if he intends to play the character again. It's hard to tell whether he's mellowed out in his attitude towards Star Wars, or whether he's after the wealth and fame that his returning to the series would bring him.
That said, it would be good to see Wedge return as a major character, and not just a pilot who occasionally appears on screen during battle sequences.
UncleFeedle one might wonder if the recent deaths of Kenny Baker and Carrie Fisher might have effected his perspective
give him a spin off movie
I dont think Denis understands how popular his character Wedge Antilles is.
His performance is the reason the character is so beloved by so many... Fans couldnt care less about if he sat in a cardboard cockpit or not.
And i cant really understand why he dont recognize his contribution to Star Wars, and why Disney had him sit in a freakin second Gun-Turret-position in TROS.
why wasn't he in the 40th panel? if would have been perfect (rip Carrie!).
Did you guys know that he reprises his role as Wedge in the second Rogue Squadron game?
Not him doing the voice tho
@@allanmoncrieff5579 The game advertises his appearance in the game, and the characters really only appear in game as voices or indistinct orange-suited Rebel pilots on the ship select screen. How could they promote him if the game doesn't even feature his voice?
Wow. This guy HATES Star Wars, so I'm amazed they got him to come.
how about you watch the video and see for yourself how much he hates it
He, like Alec Guinness, doesn't hate Star Wars. He hates parts of the fandom.
RF-D2 what parts do they hate ?
RF-D2 well, Star Wars fanboys can be pretty unbearable sometimes...
+Jack Gillhouse Everyone's got their price.
hopefully we will see him in ep 8
YES!!
Come on, just bring him and Lando back
My favorite character.
My man!
Sin tener superpoderes, Wedge Antilles tuvo coraje para meterse dentro de la segunda DeathStar y ayudar a reventarla.
un acteur fantastique, une personnalite tres sympathique; suis un grand fan de Denis
I want Luke and Wedge to fight once more together
Wedge and the Emperor as roommates...
SCE2AUX2 Plot twist!!! Wedge is the Emperors brother!!! and a spy for the Empire!!! But then his bro shocked him, so he blew up DEATH STAR 2!!!
I saw this comment as soon as he said that lol
please let this be him thinking about coming back for ep 9 :)
it'd be cool if Wedge was in episode 8. I'd say it's plausible.
Wedge and the emporer, a Star Wars odd couple lol
Hopefully this experience changes his mind and he'll show up as Wedge in a future Episode, or Story
It would be nice to see Wedge in the new films, possibly as an Admiral; I always wondered about him or at least have his son be a pilot. But, I'm more curious about the fate of Admiral Ackbar.
Here after watching ROS.
Until this point I've Only Known Dennis Lawson From New tricks
Anybody else here watches new tricks?
Will have to look that up. See him in Holby City, Bleak House, The Ambassadors, Law & Order UK, Local Hero, to name a few.
This is the panel i was awaiting news on? Dennis Lawson's
Aw he's lovely! And a bit of silver fox not gonna lie... #bringbackwedge
that one guy saying wioooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
i just met him a month ago in scotland
OMG I had no idea he was in star wars. I always think of him as the detective that replace Allun Armstrong in "New Tricks"
I think Denis came back for Rise of Skywalker because of the fans.
For those that don't know he has been doing TV shows in the UK like NEW TRICKS
'Look at the size of that thing'-wedge,the rebel unsung hero x-wing fighter pilot who survives in all battles.i wanna be his character👍😁
6:15 that's actually a wise advice (look at Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher), but thank God for Evan's talent
wow him and ewan mcgregor's speech patterns are VERY similar. like uncle like nephew
I was wondering how long it would take before he asked Lawson about Ewan. Took longer than I expected.
I don´t believe in miracles but imagine if Wedge appears in episode IX along Poe....that would be kick ass!
Dundee represent, Denis! :D
Wedge is the best of the best! If he was one top gun academy, he would graduate with honors! Ahead of ice man!
If he was being truthful (and not just polite) about this being such a positive experience, maybe he'd reconsider coming back for one of the future films.
Hey, it's a long shot, but a guy can dream, can't he?
Wedge!
Jeff Duarte Is that who is was in Star Wars?
