I have difficulties downloading it as an excel file, the program says that I need to download it as an txt file but this leaves me with another problem, excel does cannot import my txt data successfully as I cannot declare what distinguishes the cells as it are multiple 'space bars' and not commas, points or single space bars. Do you have any idea why the downloading of the excel data does not work or why my txt file does not convert to excel. I am using SDC platinum, and I am following the advice from this video
Hello Sir. I am working on Sovereign wealth Funds. I am from india and my university is not having any subscription of SDC platinum. How I can access SDC platinum for data collection.
Thanks so much for sharing the video, it's very helpful. I've been struggling with the SDC data for a couple of days. My screen conditions are pretty simple: both targets and acquirers are US public firms. However, I noticed that in over 60% of deals, targets and acquirers have the exactly same 6-digit CUSIP. I felt a bit confused and wonder if this means that the target and the acquirer are the same firms prior to the announcement date? Should we drop these observations in the first place? Looking forward to your opinion. Thanks a lot.
It could be a number of things. But, it's quite possibly a repurchase or restructuring. You can check, and eliminate, some of these by looking at the acquisition types
The two main sources are SDC and Factset. But, you would usually need to obtain acquisition data from either of those and then calculate the number and/or value of deals they have done in the past. SDC and Factset will not give you a variable that contains acquisition experience.
Unfortunately I do not have access to SDC Platinum, are there any alternative solutions/services that can provide me with similar tools? I'm specifically wanting to look at the long-run returns for acquiring firms who buy/merge with target firms who have 'poor' corporate governance?
Other than SDC, there is factset, and capital IQ (but I don't have their takeover data). You can also identify delisting reasons in CRSP if you have access. Here, you can identify if a target was acquired. You will then need to search for the acquirer. I believe BvD has some takeover data, but I'm not familiar with it. Failing all this, you could try to develop a python script to search SEC filings.
Put your tips and hints on M&A data and analysis in the comments below
Very detailed instructions. Thank you for even helping me format the output in excel.
Great content Mark. Needed this.

I'm not aware of any free access to SDC Platinum. There are some other takeover databases around though , depending on what you're looking for.
thanks a lot!!!
