    One thing I realized was a subtle hint to Varney's true nature in retrospect, was the constant mention of his "smell" by Saint Germain, earlier in the season Greta talks a bit about the scent of magic, how it smells light and sweet on Alucard, and rotten and foul on Saint Germain. At this point in the story he's already gone over to the dark side and been performing acts of death magic in preparation for the ritual. I believe the thick odor that rolls off of Varney is the smell of the powerful dark magic he is steeped in, and it's so strong that even in his vampire form ordinary humans can smell it miles away as Germain mentioned.

Not the massive gireball Dracula summoned, or the boomeranging cross weapon replacement for Trevor's shitty throwing knives? • @blumiu2426
      @blumiu2426 3 года назад +6

      @@High-LordHarza The Vampire Killer was gone by the second season, when in actually, it does not change form. That is a game mechanic. A morning star is not a whip and chains make a poor substitute. You even see Trevor exchange the two weapons, so they aren't even the same thing when only one weapon was capable of slaying Dracula.
      Other than that, what exactly are you referring to? That the characters doing things that you would expect means that they are them? That just means they got something right. Did you expect them to get even that wrong?
      What's a gireball? Demonic Megiddo?
      Odd. I could have sword those throwing knives had the capability of slaying creatures of the night...also a classic staple of the series. The boomerang cross was another weapon the Belmont's used, not a replacement.
      When has death ever been the endgame boss of Castlevania? Never from my memory, because Dracula was always summoned partially or fully for the final confrontation. You're not making a strong case for anything besides saying they stuck to basics. Something that I've said or there would be no semblance of Castlevania besides the name. I can understand though, seeing as there is nothing else to relate to the games.
      It's just bizarre you refer to character attacks, weapons and basics of Castlevania anyone would know at cursory glance as defense, while ignoring the characters themselves are changed and barely the plot of Dracula's Cruse was present. But that's it.

    • @High-LordHarza
      @High-LordHarza 3 года назад +8

      @@blumiu2426 Holy wall of text Batman!
      Death as an endgame boss, as in, one of the last bosses of the game. Not the last boss.
      Yeah, Morning Star was a boost to the Vampire Killer, not a replacement, but it's far better to make it a separate weapon because adding a small spiked ball to the end would've been lame. Also, he uses Vampire Killer in season 4 briefly, so it is wasn't gone.
      The cross was always just better tham the knives, that's what I was referring to.
      And if they got things right, how is that "nothing like the games" then? You make no sense. Sure they've taken characters and events from other games in the series, like Hector and Isaac to add more to the story since they were part of the story but never shown, and changed them as well, because Isaac being just a crazy bondage dude wouldn't be much of a character.
      And FIREBALL, jackass, typos happen especially with phone keyboards.

      @@Bronzescorpion I mean they are vampires so when you hear a vampire say he “feeds on death” I don’t think that’s a big hint towards specifically that character. And you only mentioned like two lml...they were pretty subtle hints. You’d get them if you were I guess a castlevania buff but I never really played the games to that extent to know that one line would somehow indicate he’s death. Only thing that was clear to me was Trevor’s comment early on.

    • @Bronzescorpion
      @Bronzescorpion 3 года назад +14

      @@dyllanrodriguez2828 Being a Castlevania buff doesn't really help in this case. Sure you know that Death is in the games, but normally he isn't in disguise and never as a vampire as far as I know. All you need to know is given to you in the series:
      Trevor tells that the creature feeds on death, rather than being the actual Death.
      Varney says that he feeds and lives on death.
      I would actually argue that being movie/story savvy is more helpful to you. You know that Death will make an appearance, since Trevor's description of him is basically a chekhov's gun. This alone should not make you surprised that he eventually pops up.
      As for him and Varney being the same, without the blatant shout out, other things that may have clued one in, is the importance of Varney. As jokingly a character he appears to be, he has way more involvement in the events, than normal for such a character. He speaks with multiple of the major characters through distance mirrors. It should at the very least clue you in that there is more to him, than meets the eye.
      They even played with it, constantly having him asking: "Don't you know who I am?", which is very funny in hindsight.
      All in all. Death was definitely teased enough, that it shouldn't have been a surprise. It may only have been one mention of him, but it was so prominent that you know he would appear. The question is when and who? The reason I said he was almost hinted too much, is that you didn't really have to pay that much attention to pick up on Varney's words. It is not a hidden detail or something you only catch in multiple watching. It was there almost spoken directly outright and many caught on immediately.

    Here's a thought: that dagger was the series' interpretation of Claimh Solias, the "Blade of Light", which would fit perfectly from what we see of Trevor from Death's perspective with the powerful gleam of light coming from it, and a most befitting holy weapon used to overpower and finish off Death, even if we only ever see it "canonically" in the games of AoS and DoS.

Makes sense for Dracula to have a weapon that could counter Death as well, from like a tactical standpoint. Which would also explain why Trevor knew everything about the dagger when he saw it.

    Greta of Danesti is essentially the shows version of Grant Danasty. or at least a counterpart to him. on top of the similarities of their first name, to me her clothing seems to have a color scheme vaguely similar to grants, though yes it is very different clothing, and more similar to his color scheme in symphony of the night. she is also shown to be a competent fighter against the night creatures, i'd have to rewatch the season again to see if she ever fights a proper vampire though. she's not on the level of the main trio yes, but still a good fighter in her own right. also, i remember her mentioning something about her family originally living in that place before it was a town(though i may be miss remembering), and with her leading the place i could totally see Danesti being her surname or the surname of an ancestor.
    so even though she's not actually grant in terms of lore or character design, and she's not turned into a monster then back to a human like grant was in the original game, she still seems to be a clear reference to the character in terms of their role fighting alongside the main group, also in the lore grant helped rebuild destroyed towns and villages in wallachia after the games and he was more remembered for that then as one of the vampire hunters who helped to take down dracula, and well... in the end that's what greta is doing and she's not really a vampire hunter.
    it's like, since grant isn't as big a role in the series compared to the other 3 dracula's curse player characters, and he is overall remembered the least by fans, they instead chose to have it so over the show we get vague references to grant in different places, like he was taken apart into multiple characters. fly-eyes with his humanization, though not literally turning human again like grant did, and overall color scheme similar to grant's monster form. the captain taking up his pirate aspects. and Greta having some similarities with his human appearance, working alongside the main trio (though mainly alucard), and helping to rebuild after all is said and done.
    so what im saying is the real Grant Danasty was the friends we made along the way.

    Disagree with/correcting a few things here.
    - 1:50 That vampire was not a reference to Shaft. I honestly don't know why so many people keep thinking that, Shaft is a unique character with a unique place in the story far from this time. A cloak that's the same color as one character doesn't make them a reference to that character...
    - 2:10 Those weren't gremlins or hunchbacks, they were 100% clearly Flea Men, from SoTN. Little cloaked demons that swarm and jump around with axes. No mistaking that one if you've played Symphony, lol.
    - 5:11 Legion is what it's called in Curse of Darkness. In Symphony of the Night, it's name is Granfaloon.
    - 5:12 Definitely not based on the Master Librarian. He's an old caretaker in the castle, and nothing more. Not even close to what the guy in the show is. A big no to that one.
    - 6:50 There was zero reason whatsoever to ever think that the judge was Zed...Again, a random piece of clothing on a random character doesn't make it a reference to a main one....
    -One of the executive producers said Greta is not relevant to Grants character at all.
    -Missed Trevor finding the red rust in the box and immediately discarding it, which made me laugh a good bit.
    -Gergoth wasn't in SotN.
    When St Germain is in the Corridor, one of the gates has a Sphinx with a red moon over it, which is the Forgotten City from portrait of ruin, I think.
    -Carmillas sword strongly seems like the Muramasa.
    -You missed where Trevor activates the Flame Whip, the final form of the Morning Star, towards the end of his fight against Death. That, along with him item crashing the whip at the end of season 3, are both identical abilities that Richter uses in Symphony of the Night and Rondo, respectively.
    - You missed Alucards cape turning to wings for his double jump, his drop kick ability against the axe demons as he arrives at Danesti, and his gravity boots jump ability when he fights the teleporting guy with the axes.
    One last thing. THANK YOU for differentiating the Lords of Shadow timeline from the official canon. As a lifelong fan since the NES days, I can't tell you how aggravating that argument is to have with people that don't know the actual story, lol.
