Magpie flew inside the house and was trying to escape through a pane of glass, so I gave it a cuddle and a pat and calmed it down. Then we had a little chat :)
that is a very young mapie, not an old magpie. The beak open indicates stress from the incident of flying into the glass, so its good that you showed calmness and compassion to the youngster.
Linda T correct a young one and stressed and in shock it is best to place the baby somewhere safe than to stress it out any more, even though he was showing compassion by stroking it, Birds can die from shock .
magpies have amazing memories, they know all the humans in their territory and if you feed them occasionally they won't swoop at you. You can be sure your kindness will never be forgotten. Great work guys
Hmmm. Should I listen to you...or consult my many years experience or perhaps listen to this professor? www.couriermail.com.au/questnews/southeast/expert-says-feeding-magpies-may-save-you-pain-of-attacks-from-above/news-story/f2115833e42a647326c04813d20c7041
Bong Gnostic. That may be your experience and that's fine . i have fed my "couple " for the last 20 y. the male eats out of my hand. yet come bub season i have been swooped.
Magpies are beautiful birds I have had several that would come for feeding and even bring their babies too when they could fly. They only attack when they have eggs or babies in the nest to keep people way, it is a normal thing for all birds to do. They are highly intelligent and one I had even came when I called his name.
So cute! The reason his bec is open and he does not fly away at once, is because he is very afraid. One better not move the hands around him too fast, but slowly.
Thankyou for showing compassion, but it is allways best to place bird in a safe place in garden or an open box until recovered, It is in shock and further handling them can cause further shock, beak open is an indication of shock, he/ she is also a young bird grey down on breast an adult would of panicked more unless tame, thank you for caring though 😊
a drop of water would have done wonders. February a year ago, I had a young bullfinch crash into our dining room windows, saw the trees inside, I rushed out, he was very dazed, so I picked him up and held him close for warmth and waited, it was a million years of splendor watching this little life recover in my hands, He flew off happy.
He's not a "whisperer." He had a dazed bird that bonked its head real hard. If I'd been there, I would have let the bird stay until it was ready to fly off itself. This "whisperer" caused the poor bird to fly off when it was still dazed.
Actually it was still freaking out inside, trying to fly through a pane of glass repeatedly. I stepped over to it and once I was holding it calmed down completely. Had I have done nothing it probably would have broken its neck.
Jesus. How unbelievably petty. “He’s not a ‘Whisperer.’” Really? A video gets popped up on a channel with a cutesy “whisperer” moniker in the title because of how calm the bird remained in his hands and THAT’S what gets your knickers all in a bunch. I see it was a few years ago, but I sure hope life has become a bit more interesting for you such that grumping off on a lighthearted video doesn’t permeate and interfere with your ability to recognize when someone is showing genuine compassion and empathy. Or maybe be you did, but displays of empathy or caring is something displeasing to you. Could you imagine a world full of malcontents like this?? What a nightmare that would be. Go smoke some weed when you feel the grumpy coming on. It might help. 🙄🙄🙄🤨🤨🤨
smart birds; they can evaluate safety over instinct in many cases; vs their rep defending young, but it that case aggression seems more understandable because people may harm them unwittingly; also hormones.
This is simply amazing, unbelievable.

Yep - definitely a young one and stressed and possibly dehydrated - you hear them more when there is rain around for a reason.
also the open mouth can indicate that it is thirsty, (well for every animal)

Bong Gnostic they still do

Very young magpie. excellent work on the catch and release!
I feed 6/7 Maggies...every day...they're v sociable & intelligent.
Good work..Dan!
Juveniles are mottled. They have sharp lines as adults. We have a couple of pet (wild) babies. They make my morning with their antics!
Just great. Thank you for your concern for our feathered friends .

It looks like a young one.
Wydawać by się mogło,że w tych ròznych fizycznych ciałach mieszczą się ---te same ludzkie dusze !!!
I like your bird
He's a young bird, mate. they are grey on the chest n then they go black as they get older.
Small size, brown eyes and grey feathers indicate a young one.

That just struck me as being so bitter and uncalled for. Absolutely perfect example of malcontent. 😡
So sweet :)
So funny 🤘

Ciekawe, czy byłyby tak ufne w pobliżu złych ludzi?
This video won't load properly.
Amo esses vídeos 😍😍🌹🌹
Would it not be a wonderful world to live in, if we all got on with animals as Daniel demonstrated?
Which one is the magpie🤔
Think he is a baby mate.
Rad
Give some mince beef..their love it.. we give to them..round 50 turn up everyday..plus we have 20 species and counting..
Mince gets stuck in their beaks and can cause issues. Try chopped up dog sausage instead it has added minerals which is much better for them.
Vegan for the win...? Lol
He’s not weLl with his mouth open Like that.
