Yeah but the first quarter vikings were playing most of their starters. When garden Minshew came in they were playing 2 strings and 3 strings. For example everyone was hyping OC last year of how good he was last preseason games.

I agree, and he’s never had the weapons on offence he has now. Dude is primed in year 6 to show that he’s always been a gamer & not just a career backup. At some point he deserves the chance to be a starter. He’s shown more than enough coming in to start in 5 seasons always playing behind a first round pick that got injured and performed admirably. AOC and his lack of mobility is an issue , even if there are many in this fan base thinking he’s ready after a 10 game sample size. Give me the guy with experience in win now mode until he proves he’s not the better of the two. 👊🏻🏴☠️🏈

Starters always get more reps in practice. The lower you are on the depth chart the less amount of reps you get but when it comes to pres season games that’s a completely different story. If there’s no official starter they’ll play each competing player an equal number of reps/drives/quarters, if it’s a solidified starter and veteran they’ll likely only play a few snaps or none, if it’s a starter but a rookie they’ll likely get a good number of reps to see what they’re capable of and get experience. It all depends.

When aoc was actually throwing against the 1s... aoc climbed the pocket like a vet and was what 3 for 3 on 3rd...he had two ugly passes granted...mustache is a vet and was playing against back ups...come on now the entire starting d line was not in when mustache came in...
I'll add that play call on the sack was shit. Two wrs ran into each other and no one was even close to open. The movement of tucker just bunched it into chaos...

He did show, drove the team from deep to a scoring drive. 7 for 9 against the number 1's. Minshew played against mostly number 2's.
People forget Minshew carried a whole team last season and had flash moments on more than one occasion. I don't think what we saw today was an accident.
Minshew had the highest turnover-worthy play % in the league. He had a lot of droppped INTs.

Aoc is the number 1 Qb otherwise he would have played more. Minshew played against backups and only completed 5o% of his passes. Hes been on several different teams for a reason...hes a backup.

I would like to see minshew start. I feel because of our QB depth were going to take some lumps this season (I hope not) so as bad as that will be maybe we can get a top QB next draft ? O'Connel/Minshew produced immediately, I've been a fan of Antonio Pierce bc he came in and PRODUCED immediately. Seems like his compass isn't pointing north anymore. "Proven winner" coach? Really? How about a "proven producer?" You've got them. "Band-aid" qb? Really? Don't forget Coach, some of the biggest disasters have been some of the most hyped, well known, Heisman trophy winners. Some of the greatest (i.e. Brady for instance) were picked way low, undrafted walk ons and/or initially rejected. Why this obsession with a "name?" This is a football team, not a movie. If a "name" is so important, how about bringing in Adam Sandler? He did really well at qb in the remake of The Longest Yard.
O'Connell is the starter at current. ( which is why he only came out for a series.)
Minshew looks like a very capable backup who could steal the job if O'Connell goes down for whatever reason.
O'Connell 7/9 says he's the starter and Coach saw enough after the first series.
Minshews escapabilty and scrambling ability give him a huge edge. When Adian had 3rd and goal he had a hole to the left he could have exploited to either buy more time or scramble. AOC floated back and got sacked, that's the difference in the two right there.
AOC might be more accurate and have the stronger arm, but not being able to escape pressure at all dooms him.

I can’t disagree more!!! AOC threw out of a sack, drove from his own 6 yard line against 1st team. Precision darts 7/9 clean crisp and commanding. AOC didn’t go to the old Derek Carr check down but rather chose the down field man and put the ball underneath VERY WELL when needed moving the chains methodically and commanding! AOC is the man!!! Wilkerson sucks, Andrus Peete was getting his tail kicked against Dallas Turner and that was the flaw in the drive before adjustments and personnel changes. Look it, Minshew did the Minshew probowler underdog alternate thing. AOC even though he didn’t put up 6 he looked far better on that drive and that’s all that needs to be seen. Stats aside against and with 2nd teams AOC looked the part on that opening drive just pushing it and commanding

It’s only 1 preseason game but I still go with AOC as the starter. He moves the ball up the field a lot faster than Minshew. Need work on O-line though 😒

Really my opinion and what I observed was this.... AOC was the better QB and looked better than Minshew. AOC played against starters and Minshew against backups. AOC looks more loose and comfortable moving out of the pocket which is a huge improvement from last season under McDaniel's offensive system. The one thing I think AOC needs improving is awareness of his surroundings as he did run into Vikings pressure once resulting in a sack. Minshew on the other hand was noticeably different missing short passes and unable to escape pressure. Having good movement and moving out of the pocket is one thing but every time Minshew scrambled I was unimpressed. For a 2nd year QB AOC played great and made me really excited because he looked more refined and improved. He also exerted more confidence in himself and the offense.
I think the jury is out on this one still. I would like to see Minshew start next week and see how they look.
AOC will probably be named the starting qb for the season but he has to do three things: 1. Avoid sacks
2. Get rid of the ball more quickly
3. Shave that stupid mustache, it looks like it was pencilled in

It makes sense why ap was saying neither pulled away in camp. Both did really good but both also make mistakes. After the next 2 weeks will be more definitive. I think minshew will take 1st reps next week. And itll probably be more split week 3 unless one of them gets named QB1 by then
AOC is the starter, he had 1 possession and looked good. Low ball passes? They were all catchable and not something that needed to be pointed out. AOC will be the starter but with a short Leash
AOC plays under control, doesn't really risk the ball. Him taking a sack is better than throwing it up for grabs and getting it picked, especially in the red zone. I like minshews swag, but he plays to reckless and inconsistent.
If AP doesn’t have Minshew as QB1 this season, it would go along with how he decided to call 3 time outs in succession with 45 seconds left in the game and the opposition possessing the ball. Just think about that one… 😉
Are you drunk? AOC was much better as he was going against the 1’s. Gardner was throwing lobs against the 2’a. Just ask Harrison Bryant. Gardner also missed a wide open short crossing route. If Peat didn’t wiff on Dallas Turner, Raiders would have scored a TD. This moderator is ridiculous

Reports out of camp already were saying that minshew was pulling ahead in the QB race. They started O’Connell because coach promised that it was his job to lose. And that’s what exactly is happening. He’s losing it. 17 points to 3 points in the same amount of time.
How much could AOC score in 1 drive?

Gardner shows a lot more poise, Mobility, pocket presence and experience. AOCs ceiling is to be slightly worse than Carr at best. Minshew will start week 1, I would bet my life on it. #TRUMP2024

Minshew is going to win the starting QB job. O’Connell still shows a lack of experience and has problems with holding on to the ball too long. His lack of ability to read defenses also shows up.
Minshew can give you an extra play after the first play breaks down.
Still too early to tell. Both played well and to their strengths. Minshew mobility is a slight leg-up for me, but with time, AOC can make a perfect delivery. If our OL is strong AOC may be the more dangerous QB. Minshew’s arm looked better than I previously thought, hitting Tucker and Turner deep.
I'm not even going to watch this whole video. If you guys think Minshew is the starter when AOC only played one series, not a full quarter, and Minshew was in for most of the first half, you've forgotten a lot about football. It was great to see Minshew out there making plays, but considering the small sample size we got from AOC, I don't know?!?

Wi Fi Willie, YOU made me an Aidan O'Connell fan when we were talking about drafting him from Perdue. I have been high on him ever since and think that he will be a great QB as he continues to grow and develop. I was glad that AP stuck with him last year when he took over. He definitely could be our QB1. However, Minshew completely scrambled that for me in the game against the Vikings. His mobility to extend plays (which Aidan is starting to do now to more than he did last year) and his experience may give him the QB1 slot. I was VERY impressed with Minshew. I think he should be QB1 at this point. Brown is not ready, but could be a good 4th and inches guy.
Gardner is coach material. AOC is bartender material.
If there’s anything I’ve learned in the last 20 years, it’s that preseason means little to absolutely nothing about how the seasons gonna go. They’re all playing pickup football for funsies right now as far as I’m concerned

To the comments saying AOC played the same amount as menshew don't know football. We all know AOC time of possession and snap count was lower. Just because 15 mins ran off the clock that is not how much both of thenm played smh.

I’m a huge Gardner Minshew Fan . I’d still give the job to Aiden to start the season . I think it’s about even in terms of the competition . As much as I love Gardner , i think we know what his ceiling is at this point . I don’t feel like we’ve seen everything Aiden has to offer yet . Put him on a short leash and see where the season goes .
Willie like your videos for the most part but you have no idea why AOC has advantages over Gardner. Remember AOC was outstanding in preseason last year many young QB’s do so against vanilla defenses. AOC’s ability translated to the regular season because of his inherit accuracy. Having a QB with an arm strong enough to stretch the field is paramount otherwise the offense will always be going against a stacked box.
I do agree with what you said. Minshew faced most of the second string guys while AOC faced the first. They should do the same thing next week but have minshew start this time and if he still looks better than have him be the guy

I'm leaning Minshew because of escape ability and experience. But I want to see more of AOC. So switch it to 1 series with Minshew starting and the rest of the half with AOC. Both can move the ball down the field but both have a lot to work on. I'm good either way but leaning Minshew.
AOC was a rookie last year. He needs to show improvement this year or he’s out. He’s got a lot of good things going for him, but scoring points hasn’t been one of them, and at the end of the day that’s the only stat that matters.

Wrong take. O'Connell only played 1 series because he showed enough to be the starter. Look at the pass to Mayer, his arm is stronger. Minshew? He almost put a TE in the hospital with that duck. If fact all his passes were pretty much floaters. He's a glorified Jimmy G. Naturally I'd love Carr to still be the QB but as it stands right now, Aidan is the only true QB on the roster.
None of these are franchise QB’s and HC need to identify with his own QB he want.

Next 2 games will show who the best QB is. I'm thinking it's going to be Gardner M. He seems to adapt, reads defense, buying time for the play down field. He is smart & mobile. He is probably the best QB the raiders have had in a long time. He will also allow the raiders to get a young QB project to work on for a couple of years and the raiders got him cheap for a QB. Win & win.

Maybe because all that came on AOCs only drive he played…and Gardner put those numbers in one quarter. Take that and apply that to 4 quarters and that’s 400 yards and 4 td’s. Idk they both seem on the right track, something to be happy about
I like them both. O’Connell has earned the right to start. Either will be a great backup if the other get injured. I like the Carr/Mariota combination. I’ve never seen a team use one QB in the 1st half, and a new one in the second 1/2. Maybe I’ll earn the crazy Mike title by making this suggestion. Do it like hockey line changes. This way the 1st & 2nd teams get game experience. If a quarterback gets injured the back up is More ready to work with the first string just a thought
Why did Philadelphia let Minshew go? The backup QBs looked weak the last two years.
Tough to say that SACK on AOC is his fault....the defensive end clearly over powered the offensive linemen...and AOC wasn't looking his direction and was starting to roll out when the linemen got on him.....I was impressed with both...I think we will be ok with QB who ever they go with ....I'm with you ....need helps in our depth on Defense for sure... :D Good report..!

Both QBs need to improve in pocket presence. The QB that learns how to step up in the pocket should win the job IMO.
