Mortal Kombat 4 is the fourth main installment in the Mortal Kombat series of fighting games developed by Midway Games. Released to arcades in 1997, Mortal Kombat 4 is the first title from the series, and one of the first made by Midway overall, to use 3D computer graphics.

Nice, as a kid I played the PlayStation version of this game along with Mortal Kombat Trilogy almost everyday. If possible, could you add the arcade versions as well to compare what was missing on the home ports?

I would say the N64 looks the best but I think that's because you seemed to record The Dreamcast Version in 480i
I used to play the DC version with an S Video cable...it looked WAY better and crisper than this video shows. Whoever did the video capture for the DC did a shit job. The DC version with S Video looked way better than all these other versions by far

I'm biased for the N64 but I really think the best version of MK4 is on that system even though Gold on the Dreamcast is supposedly the upgraded version.

Never played the pc ver but between the n64 and ps1 I got to say I prefer the n64 ver for a few reasons: the presentation is more simiar to the arcade ver, can use goro against cpu goro (two goros on screen), noob has a mid-air projectile (plus both normal and mid-air projectiles have a fire-looking effect that no other mk4 ver has), no lead times, and cheats are easier to use.gameboy ver is trash. dreamcast loads faster, has more chars and weapon options than the ps1 ver. Graphically the DC ver also looks closer to the arcade but it has too many glitches, more noticeable in the sounds department. Between the n64 and DC is harder for me but I would give the adge to the DC because it allows you to enable all 3 fatalities at once

n64 version is best with no loading at all, the best graphics, and best endings.
I remember back when I was a kid, I played this game on our laptop and it doesn't look exactly like that which ours doesn't look pixelated.

Dreamcast version has a better shadowing/shadows, while Nintendo 64 version has better coloring/colors and lighting/lights.
GBC its actually MK3 but with mk4 characters
You should use the GOG version of MK 4 it works the best.

Visually, I'd say the Dreamcast version is the best, followed by the N64 version, then the PC version, then PS1, then the port that shall not be named
Dreamcast is closest to the arcade original in terms of looks and even resolution, but it may be a little too dark
N64 looks very good overall; very close to the arcade for a 5th gen system.
PC is decent, but it's missing some animation (like the blood in the game over screen), has very bad textures in spots, and has some clipping issues
PS1 runs in a lower framerate, has the worst textures, has the chunkiest models, etc.
I'm not talking about the *other* version
Also, you should've included the arcade version as well, for a better comparison.

The n64 is really the only one that looks true to its era. The dreamcast port looks like it has crap graphics (it does) and the other consoles have some bad aliasing... thats the flickering and shifting of the flat sides of the polygons most visible arouns joints. N64 does not suffer this issue. 2d models look bad tho when upscales to HD like in this video.

The PC version in this case looks like something that would be possible on the NIntendo DS. I didnt think the PC version would be that pixelated that even the PS1 version looks a bit better.

they tried to make the DC version the best version but it looks good and bad at the same time. they cleaned up the graphics but it looks too sharp for the low polygons. and the DC version has an interlaced signal that only looks good on crt screens. the n64 version looks truest to the graphics resolution of that time. I would have liked to have seen the arcade version compared as well.
Wrong numb nuts 🥜 look at the Dreamcast version in 480p. This moron recorded with composite for Dreamcast (it’s best signal is Native VGA at 60fps) and showed the N64 version on an emulator.
1st: PC version Supports Glide 3DFX which looks way better, not shown here.
2nd: N64 doesn't look like this in real hardware, it looks way, too much worse from what is being shown here, if you are going to apply graphical enhancements/filters to the N64, do it for the PS1 aswell.

Non-existent. Because the Saturn was a commercial failure in the North American market. Sega truly screwed up the system in so many ways. Poor design, creating a difficult machine to program for, and a really stupid surprise launch when there were no games ready f-ed themselves over. Plus the 32X debacle which could have been totally avoided had there actually been some proper communication between the Japanese team engineering the machine and the American division execs as to the timeframe of Saturn's launch. In other words, the Saturn is trash.
