In 2015, a senior level designer, Péter Gelencsér was on a podcast and when he was asked to give a secret to the audience, he revealed there is an island he worked on in skellige, that if you look upon when the sun is at its highest, the shadow cast by it points to the location with a secret chest. Im pretty sure it was this chest.
He also said thats why the fortress is called kaer Gelen, because he created it and named it after himself :D

In my opinion, looking for treasures using such indirect instructions is much more interesting than stupidly catching another chest that has already been marked with a question on the map in advance.
The developers first need to come up with such a problem. And, unfortunately, it won’t work the second time - there will be too obvious a tautology in the gameplay.

These are the features that put this game on a tier by itself! The effort the devs put into this game I don't believe will be replicated and executed the same for a long time

This game had for me the same problem as skyrim. I literally went out and around the world and there was always something interesting. Dozens of hours later I was looking for where the hell the main quest was. And this is a characteristic of a great game.

I've always said that ANY game that rewards a players exploration - whether it's out of bounds or not should be considered great. Because thats a tell that they actually thought about the people playing their game. And know how they play.

This game could have been mixed with world building, sandbox and strategy over the existing storyline. It had got that potential with its deepness.

If I ever find out that there's a treasure in some place, I'm going to make sure I don't write down its location, leave it in a voice log, or othewise record it in some way where it can be found next to my skeleton. Way too dangerous.
