The individual magazines were RAF, however, the smaller compound you entered was not USAF it was a US Naval Weapons Facility. I was stationed there 3 different tours with the US Marine Security Force. That facility was active 1974 to 1992.
Thanks for providing the background info.
Totally cool.
Brings back memories. The red line on the ground in front of the first few igloos tells the story. However, this area had early 60's vintage security measures. The doors are too thin, I didn't see the required jack phone, and the lack of interior accessories place this in the early Cold War. It looks like this area was passed back and forth between USAF and MOD. Much like RAF Welford.
Thanks for the trip down memory lane. Some good, some bad.
Great video guys I know the location having worked the GAMA a Greenham back in the mid 80's we did a few hops over to this base. Just one thing though nukes were never stored here, but there was plenty of destructive power stored right up to the late 80s early 90s.
Did my usual thing of not reading the comments before posting, sigh......
@@Peasmouldia Greenham is not where it is.
I saw a B-52 flying over San Francisco today. Unfortunately it didn’t drop anything.
In the town I grew up in, there is a complex like this . It was a WW 2 bomb factory . My grandparents were farmers but when the bomb factory opened they went to work there. My grandfather was a night watchman and my granny assembled the bombs. They were shipped by rail to the port 400 miles away and then to the War. After the war was over , they went back to farming....
Who kept the farm going while they worked in bomb factory, animals need continual tending?
What an amazing site, love the stillness and calm feeling in the air, interrupted by singing birds.
Surreal place being there! loved the atmosphere
when you was looking at the urinal (21:19) did you miss the comic of someone stencling on the wall "No Dumping" lol Great video guys... you go there so I don't have to !
Who took a dookie in the unrinal??! Was it you Clyde??
Not watched a video from iks I haven't enjoyed. Thanks again for doing what you do it amazes me all the places you go and explore :)
thanks for your support folk means alot :)
Love the "No Dumping" at 21:18.
I like that it wasn't trashed, just decayed.
i love these kind of video's,good job, keep up the great work, that your clearly having a blast doing these video's,hope you can find more to explore.
That pigeon made my heart skip a beat lmao.
Riverherb Are you talking about the bat? LOL
Really good video. The artwork form the squadrons is amazing.
What a great place, one of my favourites, loved the "wall art" A huge Golden gem that one, thanks for sharing this one! 👌
A speculator could look into buying this property, refurbishing each bunker into a livable dwelling and sell them. Not only could a survivalist find the "hardening" a plus but an off-grid environmentalist could see the benefit of a rammed earth-type house to be a real benefit.
Awesome video
UPS at 12:06 would be 'Uninterruptible Power Supply' that would have been the feed from the battery system inverter to provide backup power to essential items if the incoming mains failed. The lever at 12:43 looks to be a hydraulic release for the gate.
Wonder what 51 para sqdn were doing moseying around there?
Cool video guys.. If you look at some of them roads they look like they get used quite regularly also very clean to say they left 26 yrs ago wonder they get checked
Scavenging 101: Go back, flip those sofas and chairs over and remove bottom lining to check what has fallen from pockets. Also, check under the pertinent fixtures and fittings for dropped items.
Thanks IKS EXPLORATION ,yet another great Exploration with Golden' Gems .
Some nice bits of history not normally seen by public eyes. Sad that these places can't last forever.
Looks like a typical Strategic Air Command munitions depot. The badges on the wall represent the career specialty field of missile maintenance and/or operations. Sometimes referred to as a "Missile Man".
Another very cool explore, I loved the thing on the wall that was called Airborne toast, it was quite touching. Thanks for sharing your day. x
Hi absolutely marvellous seeing this site again? and filming so much more in details like the painted murals on bunker walls and gun shots windows glass was ever so thick and seeing the equipment that housed generators and all electrical equipment a truly amazing Gems but like so many gems within this site it was so enjoyable to watch once again 💯gem fantastic 👍😊
Brilliant video folks
Cheers folk
The one place y'all went into and you asked what is this it was a paint both. Great video y'all
Loving all your videos folks. Have to say I nearly had a heart attack at that bird flying at the door though 😂
You should see the out takes then 😉
Come on you for real it's like every military ammo dump I've ever seen
Least favorite area to go into while stationed there, extreme security was not pleasant to experience
13:05 A whisper "yes"
My Grandfather use to guard Greenham common, stories I haven't really asked about myself but we used to fly RC planes off the old runway (what's left).
Another fantastic video and greetings from your Cornish fan
A Quonset Hut is what we called them. Igloo? Funny.
That’s one true golden gem.Fantastic place IKS👏👍👍✈️
a diamond in the dust
A massive complex, awesome video. That was scary at about 30:40, that clicking sounded like a land mine being activated when Chris stepped forward. And that gang business made us jump LOL, thought the sound effects were the beginning of an alarm going off, expected to see you all start running for cover LOL
No nukes ever stored at that facility.
'Entrapment Area' Lighting... like it. Good explore fellas .
thank you again for this and hope ur head all ok from last one ...........jy
do you think the Different interiors indicate what kind of weapons were stored in there? I guess if its an asbestos lined bunker they were worried about whatever it was making a fire coupled with the next one being completely different.
Enjoyed the vid!
No nukes there. Very close by, but not that airfield.
I stood guard at one similar in W. Germany, Schweinfurt.
Amazing places, to be sure!
Shrewsbury down the road from me. great video guys
Great explore again folks 👍✊
12:36 you said you think it is electric... it is pneumatic see the two lines? one handle is missing it allows for positive gate operations.
Another great documentation of military history. Why the hell don't they turn the stores in not workshops? Best wishes, Paul in Lower Boddington
fantastic explore guys ✌✌
Ammo box may not be old as 5.56mm blank is issued these days in wooden boxes.
I'd noticed this on Google Earth and wondered if that's what it was for. Pretty obvious it was a munitions store, but due to it's location nukes seemed likely.
Ta.
Conventional ammo storage bunkers, not nuclear.
4:41 Priceless reaction ! Lol :)
Scared the crap outta me,too!
Giggles.... 07m00s 'Plant room'... Video shows plant growing out doorway... ;)
You could rent them out as vacation homes.
I don't think it's asbestos.... Famous last words
great explore did anyone think to bring a Geiger counter
Great video
Paint booth not for vehicles but for munitions x
It called also be row two(the two hundred)and then the building number(seventy five).
These could be encampments for the homeless, theyd be away from everyone and theyd stand up to whatever a crackhead could throw at it
I worked the GAMA at Comiso, AS in Sicily..... nice flashback 😊
And then think of all the money it did cost to build and maintain it
Kool video bro ✌🏻🇺🇸Boston USA 🇺🇸
Looks like greenham common
The paint booth would be to paint munitions
A paint booth , strange having one of those there
22:20 Warthog=Fairchild-Republic A-10 Thunderbolt II
Great place.
So much quieter without Matt
if nuclear weapons were stored there could that site be a bit radioactive ?? maybe go back with your counter thingy :)
@@AtheistOrphan No. Any background radiation will click on that counter. Its probably radon from the concrete, yes that radiates too.
Those bombs were pretty much sealed off. no worries.
And a little radiation hurts no one.
Trust me, I know as a cancer survivor
No
Conventional weapons storage facility and maintenance shop...always tell with the “AMMO” logo.
Why don't you visit Winston Barracks in lanark South Lanarkshire
blue room was a paint booth
23:24 Hall engineering wound up in 2009.
No dumping
C'est bien de visiter mais vous donnez des idées aux destructeurs et aux pillards !
Greenham common
No, it's Not Greenham common. there are clues in the video which tells you what base this is.
RAF Welford
Amazing visit guys . Feels like the Americans only just left
Make good use for small business units
I have these near where I live. I can see them Google maps.
Ah look ,warning asbestos, let's touch the wall...PPE ,would be a good idea
I could live there.
Hey folks! 😊
why the camo paint inside ?
the homeless could live in that place.
It looks like a concentration camp. Plenty of abandoned hotels and houses around which would be better.
Cultural Marxists, and the close the doors
Woodbridge not rocket science
One woman camped out theee for years and years after anericans left
Sure same place?
Did anyone bring a rad counter?? Being a Weapons storage facility and all just saying!!!
I K S !!!!
Folk hows it going
@@IKS-Exploration I feel great thanks for asking. Grinning from ear to ear when i saw that there was a new IKS video to watch.
No doubt it will be covered in houses soon😞
No Ian, it is an industrial estate, and where the runway is it is a public common.
i want to play airsoft here...
That's what they've done at the one by me!
51 para sqn is british Army
Typical munitions is all that was there. Bullets, rockets, tank ammo, bla bla bla . Nothing else
Sorry, but you are Wrong!
Do a Google earth view and note the igloos on the south end of the munitions area. Double fences.
👍
Tax dollars hard at work there
Lead paint of course used for shielding Nuclear weapons
Geiger counters would be useless. IF weapons had been stored there, the types used were sealed.
Blurry picture
That music drove me right off
