- These are just a few of the many highlights from @thirdeyeblind live at Red Rocks Amphitheater on 06/27/2022. The story behind this video...
Back in 1998, my wife and I were in our mid-20s. We were in love, but we weren’t supposed to be (It’s complicated). We dreamed of getting married and building a life together, but we were new parents, fresh out of previous relationships. The odds were not in our favor.
There was this band, Third Eye Blind, that seemed to know our story. Every song was a poetic illustration of what we were experiencing in real-time, culminating with one song, Motorcycle Drive By. It’s a timeless song about a love that could never work. We went to see 3EB live in Ann Arbor, MI back in 1998 on their way up. We quickly discovered they were young and full of energy, just like us. We slipped our way to the front and shouted every word to every song. It was amazing! 3EB became our band from that day on.
Melissa and I were married on July 30th, 1999. We went on to face many trials, as all marriages do. 3EB traveled with us through the years, from our CD player to our iPods and now a custom playlist on our Spotify. Somehow by the grace of God, sheer grit, and determination, we made it to where we are today. We’re far from perfect, but we’re healthy, happy, living in the place we want to live, with satisfying careers. Our kids are all grown and independent, we have good friends, and we’re still in love after 24 years.
On Monday, June 27th, 2022, as my wife and I walked into Red Rocks to see “our band” we reflected on those two young dreamers back in 1998. “They did it!” we laughed. They didn’t give up when the going got tough, although there were plenty of opportunities to check out. They fought the good fight and won. Those hard-working, blue-collar kids built that life they dreamt about. It’s as if we were proud of our younger selves. Now here they stand, in the middle of that dream, waiting to see Third Eye Blind again. This time live at Red Rocks, 24 years later.
As the cool summer breeze swept through the iconic natural amphitheater in Morrison CO, my wife and I celebrated the 25th anniversary of the album that started it all, Third Eye Blind’s self-titled debut. It was our first concert at Red Rocks. I believe it was their first time playing Red Rocks too. At the beginning of my video, you see Stephan Jenkins, the lead singer and songwriter for 3EB, hug his bandmate. Both appear to be “filled with gratitude” as Stephan would later tell the audience. We were grateful as well Stephan. Thank you! 3EB absolutely rocked the house!
Well done!

Thank you for posting! We were at this show. They are so much fun live!
Whose even in the band anymore? I thought they stopped touring
Still touring with 2 of the 4 original members Steven Jenkins (singer, songwriter) and Brad Hargreaves (drummer). The new guitarist and bassist are great. They sounded real good at Red Rocks.
