You know the feeling when you just want to wear your new boots but it's insanely hot outside...
Well, as a boot-guy, I feel your pain all too well.
I've been breaking in new boots from Nicks, Whites, Wesco, Truman, Thursday, Red Wing, Oak Street Bootmakers, and a few other brands to get ready for a whole bunch of (hopefully) awesome videos this fall and winter.
But it hasn't been easy!
As much as I'd like to kick it with a pair of flamingo shorts, boots just don't match. Trust me. I've tried.

As someone who is obsessed with the workwear look and collects carhartt jackets I totally feel this video. It has to be jeans. And jeans look best with boots. And the jacket really puts the whole thing together. If only it was 50°Fahrenheit every where I went.

@Skinnymoose I'm a worker. I get dirty for my job every day and my hands are covered in dirt by the end. I also happen to think work wear looks nice when its clean. Not everyone who thinks workwear and boots look good is a hipster.
Living in Texas I feel your pain. But I came to the conclusion that I’m going to be hot regardless of what I wear. So screw it, I wear my Nicks year around.

LMAO, every time I shop I find super cool jackets and boots too, and I live in freaking southern california! I dream of moving anywhere it gets cold just to be able to wear the majority of my wardrobe more than once a year.

well, I'd never heard of them before, but upon looking them up and browsing them a bit, I'd say they look like really cheap boots that someone buys from Alibaba and then puts a "brand" on it. They don't look like they're good quality at all

As a person who lives in The Philippines, I kinda like to wear autumn and winter clothes but then weather here is almost summer all year long, so even so I still wear some thick clothes lol except from March to May. Lol

A bit of advice though! Darn Tough model "Spur" socks though my friend! Your feet will thank you and much, much, cooler! It seems silly, still wool, but they aren't nearly as heavy or thick! They also make a light weight no cushion over the calf western sock. Either one should fix the issue.
I have the same issue with the heavier wool socks. I love my Nick's and just alter the socks I wear depending on the time of year. Otherwise I roast in the high 70's and low 80's let alone 90's...
Yeah I've actually been wearing thinner socks when breaking in my nicks and whites and it's surprisingly more comfortable
@@BootSpy Cool, and glad to hear it! Those thicker socks usually benefit you the most those first 3 days give or take. Then I always find especially in summer you benefit from the switch. Good news is the break in happens so much faster in the summer months!
If I still have your attention past that point what do you use for excess sweat? I always found my insole (Red Wing) would mold if I inserted boot trees/shoe trees or even left for three days after wearing. I literally have to stuff my boots with Kraft paper, dry them 100% and then insert a tree. I was wondering if you face a similar struggle or not? I find it isn't really a subject you hear discussed a lot until pandemonium ensues.
This is coming from a guy who has 5 boots in rotation at any given moment. So it isn't from wearing them past a day. I even have them stored in a room with a dehumidifier set around 40%. So my apologies for the question, just it has always bugged me if I am alone in this issue or not?
Have you tried a boot dryer? That might help. I don't think they're all that great for the leather and you may have to condition more often, but it beats getting moldy
@@BootSpy I did actually, I haven't tried one with the fans but the Peet Shoe Dryer led to cracking an insole. Also if you use it with a new boot in my experience it hardens the footbed and prevents your insole molding to your feet. One of the biggest benefits to heritage footwear.
Maybe I can try a fan based one and give it a whirl? Thanks for the idea and the revisit.

On a more serious note, your body heat does more to soften and break in leather more than anything else.
First step is breaking in the upper leather. No conditioners. No walking required. Watch TV.
You may also try wiping them down with a hot, slightly damp washcloth while it is on your foot.
One of those hot towels a barber puts on your face before a shave would be perfect.
Yeah, I've been noticing that breaking in my nicks and whites hasnt been too tough. A few hard days but that was about it
Yes, best time to break in leather boots is to wear them all day in the summer. Your feet will sweat and the heat and moisture will help break in the leather.

I don't do flip flops either. This reminds me of the dudes back in the 90s that would be wearing black 10 inch combat boots with long shorts and black socks at an amusement park in the middle of July with 115 heat index.
I mean, there are hybrid cloth/leather boots.

I live in scandinavia, we are super lucky if we get a day over 86 fahrenheit (30 C) in the summer, anything over 75 fahrenheit (24 C) is warm. The average is like 68 fahrenheit (20 C) and I would NEVER wear boots in the summer.

I'm all about great boots and well made everything here in the US, but the kid I used to be made sure the old dude I'm becoming will never forget how much new Levi's sucked. Sorry, but you can keep all the raw denim for yourself, I couldn't give two cents about their longevity and I don't miss the faded outlines of my wallet, keys and such. Hell, we used to make fun of kids wearing new Levis's, while we washed ours at least four times before wearing them to school. Things change, but I'll take a broken-in over-priced pair of 505s that only last a few years all day over revisiting those pants. Eek, maybe they'll bring back Toughskins and you can experience true torture.
