  • The new infrastructure bill includes the verbiage “passively monitor the performance of a driver of a motor vehicle to accurately identify whether that driver may be impaired.”
Big brother wants to monitor your driving, and they want to be able to shut your car down at will.

@@speedcircuit The real endgame of this is making your car something you pay for as a service like your internet, you will never "own" the car, you will need to pay monthly to lease it. If you fail to pay then they'll just keep it from starting. Companies are tired of make one and done sales and want to keep charging you forever. They are already testing these "features" with monthly payment features like remote start and autopilot. And the general public don't weigh the long term costs so most people will think its a good deal. Like renting out internet routers. over time they don't realize those $10 a month charges are ripping them off.

There is a lot of monitoring going on in the new cars. I rent a car a month for the last 7 months and they all have their preferred distance from the white lines before it "helps" me get back in the center of the lane. It doesn't "see" the pothole or piece of debris, but when I go to smoothly move to avoid, it jerks the steering back such that if a person following is watching, they could think I was drunk with the jerking back and forth for no apparent reason. I have been trying to turn all these off, some I can't find where they are in the settings.

I've experienced this as well, and it drives me nuts. Yes, I understand that in most cases it will help people, but we should be able to opt out.
