      That guy deserves some sort of _medal_ for keeping the lid on the Broncos' frustrations as long as he did. He had basically the same unit that got 70 dropped on this year & he had them as #1, even above the 49ers until they erupted (in week 16 or 17).
      I mean _how_ did he even do that? & this year the Panthers were #1 against the pass.
      In both cases he had an offense whose specialty was going 3 & out. So the D had the additional pressure of being on the field most of each game.
      I have to wonder if he would have stayed in Denver had he known Sean Payton was coming.

      At the time of Reich's firing, I would've agreed that it looked like it would've been the worst opportunity. But now that we're seeing Pete Carroll let go and Belichick forced out and Vrabel cut short and Tomlin potentially taking time off and either the eagles or cowboys potentially getting rid of their playoff coaches...the reactions about the panthers are overrated. Good coaches get fired now and Reich wasn't a good coach. There is no job security now. Win or get fired. And if you want to win, you take the job in the easy division. Do you want to play in the NFC West vs the 49ers and Rams each twice a year? Do you want to play in the NFC East vs the Cowboys and Eagles each twice a year? Do you want to play in the AFC West vs. Mahomes and Auto? Or do you want to play in a wide open garbage NFC South?

      Brett’s Panthers prediction was ludicrously bad, no offense. Why are we acting like soon to be 1st year HCs are too good for a team? Sometimes it just takes the right guy with a great motivation to spark something within a team (take a look at Demeco and Texans who he used to play for).
      The Panthers have already cast a wide net of options and it’s already been reported that there was reciprocated interest so I don’t rlly understand the Twitter/X mentality that certain tiers of coaches won’t at least entertain a team.
      The worst I think we can end up with is Buccaneers OC Dave Canales or Ravens DC Mike Macdonald and those are two very good options. Rams DC Raheem Morris as an honorable mention.

    • @cliffordmcintosh8291
      @cliffordmcintosh8291 4 месяца назад

      @@beannheadI think they spell it out pretty simple. A meddling owner and a lack of assets, especially high end draft assets, leads to a not-so-favorable opportunity. Nobody knows if Slowack or Bienemy or Ben Johnson or Canalas are going to be great coaches, but you want to go somewhere where the circumstances are advantageous, the resources are plentiful, you have some control and you have time. Reich certainly didn't have control over the roster if the rumors are true about Bryce Young. Reich was also not given time to develop Young or the talent around for whatever the reasons were. Those are bad looks along on top of the fact that Tepper isn't known for letting his football people make the football moves without his input. The Panthers will have a coach and maybe a good one. It's unlikely that a high profile guy will want to come in. That's what they're saying.

    The Titans fired Vrabel for his appallingly bad personnel decisions. 99% of the people who say otherwise are national media personalities who haven’t watched a second of Titans football in 2 years or active players trying to remain cordial and professional. Going 0-7 to finish the season last year and miss the playoffs, being 6-18 in our last 24, leading the league in injuries for 3 straight years, not scoring 30 or more points in 35 consecutive games (the longest active streak), not winning a playoff game in 5 years despite multiple appearances and a #1 seed, as well as using office politics to push out our former GM and pro-bowl caliber players like David Long is why Vrabel was fired. Oh, _MAN!!_ A little human nature here: team owners are business owners. It's likely none of them have Team spirit anywhere in their background. So how would any Team Owner Know what makes a good, winning or even competent coach?
      So how do they view coaches, players & the hiring processes? When faced with the discomfort of The Unfamiliar, people seek The Familiar without thinking.
      They view coaches as supervisors for their players that they see as employees. This is why you get the disaster in Philly with Carson Wentz & Josh McD in LV where we only found out how miserable the players were & what was causing losses after the fact: the owners see the tyrannical top-down style of coaching from the perspective of a business-owner oppressing their employees. That = 'Familiar' to them. No Other Criteria enters into consideration. The Brandon Staleys are the rule, not the exception. Team owners do Not Want such relationships.

I’m also picking the Bucs, but it ain’t crazy that Philly is favored. It’s not that ppl still have faith in them, it’s that they don’t have faith in Tampa.

    From a panthers fan perspective I feel this wasn’t constructive and was hyperboles. Way too David Tepper focused. We need a coach that can fix the offense, not to win arguments against the team owner.
    The idea that the panthers would have to settle for two retread defensive minded coaches is asinine. That’s not even conducive to the team. They’re not even better than the DC we currently have under contract. This was a bad take and I could just listened to Mike Florio for this.

    Bold prediction here, Antonio Pierce is actually not gonna be a great HC. He’s getting hyped right now because mere competence looks like greatness when comparing it to Josh McDaniels. And that’s what he was, competent. Also benefitted from what seems to be a proven theory this season. Which is, sometimes switching things up is a superpower for a few weeks. We saw it with several backup QBs this season. When you have all the tape on another team, and that team can’t do that same preparation for you. You look great for a while. I think that’s what allowed Pierce to succeed. But I saw him just get soundly out-coached by Steichen which showed me that he’s not actually that guy. We’ll see.

    • @choosecarefully408
      @choosecarefully408 4 месяца назад +1

      So, mere competence isn't enough? Yeah, a little human nature here: team owners are business owners.
This is why you get the disaster in Philly with Carson Wentz & Josh McD in LV where we only found out how miserable the players were & what was causing losses _after_ the fact: the owners see the tyrannical top-down style of coaching from the perspective of a business-owner oppressing their employees. That = 'Familiar' to them. No Other Criteria enters into consideration.

      No offense to Raiders fans, but you don't need a great HC. This roster isn't competitive in a Superbowl run sort of way. But AP at least let the locker room have a bit of swagger. It's about cleansing for at least a year until you put in your next 5-year plan.

    It’s obvious that no one actually watches the Titans. They’ve had the most injuries in the league for THREE consecutive seasons, and Mike never even considered firing his buddy Frank Piraino (s&c coach). Our offense has not looked mediocre since Aj left, but it’s not his buddy Tim Kelly’s fault. It took TWO CONSECUTIVE BLOCKED PUNTS AND INJURING OUR ALL-STAR PUNTER for him to finally get rid of Aukerman (who will never work in the league again) who had been in charge of a bottom-5 ST unit since he got the job when Mike took over. AND MIKE CHOSE HIS BUDDY SHANE BOWEN (who sucks) over the outright Defensive Coordinator of the year, Jim Shwartz. Saying “the Titans won games” really shows you don’t pay attention at ALL to them because they’ve won 6 of their last 31 games dudes, do you guys watch the games? I don’t blame you that you don’t because there have been a bunch of brainless neanderthals running the show for the last several seasons. I hope Mike goes to one of our rivals so we can watch their franchises self-destruct in five years.

Yeah, we’re that now. We’re the worst team in football by every metric, down to the culture and the “foundational” pieces. And there’s no getting out of it easy. No praying for Ben Johnson to ignore 7 better jobs and come back home to North Carolina for a bag. We just suck. And I’m going to have to accept that we will suck for a very long time, until the building is just detoxified enough to get a top flight coach. Which is hard to do when you’re hiring stopgaps and gunmen.
