    Isn’t it ironic that Islam is conspicuous by its absence from discussion despite it being the fastest growing and second largest religion in the world?

      You have to stop equating population growth in Muslim-majority countries and the growth of Islam. A lot of Egyptians, Pakistanis, black Africans, Indonesians, etc. are not Muslims. Apostasy in the so-called Islamic world is a trivial thing now. Apostasy is an all-or-nothing thing in Islam. If you don't believe that the Qur'an is the "word of god", you're not a Muslim. Hundreds of millions in the so-called Islamic world don't believe this. It's only going to get worse, from the point of view of Islamic orthodoxy.

      When it comes to asking too many questions, or trying to use your reason in order to come to a conclusion about Islam, the Muslims are generally discouraged.

      @@dirkhan74 The original purpose of the religion was to unite warring tribes. That was accomplished. Today we need diversity in religion with people being allowed to choose where they are comfortable and what they are comfortable with. No one wants to have something forced on them whether it is communism; eliminative materialism; trans humanism or, in addition, any form of religion or religious practice they do not want and are not interested in. Also separation of church and state is important. A secular state that deals fairly with all religions is the ideal.

    I think this discussion needs a Muslim and an atheist to represent the population adequately. Most people in the UK these days don´t belong to any of the major religions, many are agnostic, many are in effect deists (I.e some philosophical belief in God) and many are out and out atheists. There are almost as many neopagans as there are Jews I believe too.
    Myself, as an atheist, I think keeping religious traditions alive is fine, as is keeping religious instiutions alive for a sense of community etc (though often we have other rituals that fullfil the same purposes these days). The problem comes when you teach that "faith" is a reasonable way to think about the world and a reasonable way to get to the truth, it isn´t. That´s entirely why we had to invent the scientific method.

  • @zak3744
    @zak3744 2 часа назад

    The question is ostensibly about the role of religion is the UK. Yet the panel is made up of a buddhist, a jew, a hindu, a sikh and a christian. All of whom feel that to be an important part of their identity and the way they interact with the world and with this question.
    So, it seems like the role of religion in the UK is not really up for question at all, and that the answer is presupposed by the format: everyone on the panel is someone who especially feels like religion ought to have a special place in society!

  • @yoya4766
    @yoya4766 14 дней назад +1

    If people identify with different religions, isn't that a fundamental failure of religion? Because each religion (except Jewish/Zionist) says we are one. Maybe a spiritual renaissance is necessary? Something the Buddhist touches on, go to the heart of religion beyond the dogma, rites and rituals. Just the pure heart which is also our heart. Open the heart in an all encompassing way. Do onto others....

    The definition of religion is: That to which we are bound. Christians had better support Christianity and other religions also support their religion, or something may move in to take its place such as eliminative materialism or a Muslim intolerant perspective; or even trans humanism.
    Even Atheists are referring to themselves as cultural Christians as they see the danger of a void. They do not like what could take over, which would not be good for anyone who means well or who want their humanity not to be interfered with.
    Religion protected against the dark occult before the age of reason and will still be a bulwark snd should be supported as it supports the human, and hence humanity.
