Ase has stood the test of time while others crossed over or fell off. The man has spanned generations from the late 80's to 2015. One of the best emcees hands down.
Definitely top hip hop song! Specially if u really outside! Gettin yo keep! riddin on chrome!!!🏎️🚓👀 living that life u know🤔😉 💯 buddy beats and content... DOPE! You gotta fuck with Masta Ace. He came up in the game iconic and he totally became his own man and brand that the east respect and the West could rock with
Classic Album, Masta Ace was able to infuse east coast and west coast music together in a way nobody has been able to duplicate or even come close to. He's under rated but is a legend in the 90's underground world. East coast were west coast haters in the 90's but ended up copying their swag, style and gangster culture down to this very day but Masta Ace had the guts to go where nobody went in the 90's with his infused new sound.
That's a fact! I'm from the West Coast, and I didn't realize he was from Brooklyn til I was an adult. Crazy crossover value. I used to play this album every day in middle school. One of the first albums I can remember buying with my own money.
@@rootsmcduck4339 Slaughterhouse is a classic, not sure up there with Illmatic/36 Chambers, etc., but he's a beast and the Marco Polo album he put out last year was just as good as Disposable Arts, Sittin On Chrome, etc. Truly one of the most slept on MCs to casual rap fans.
@@JohnSmith-iq9ot it won't make that list with a lot of people but it was a staple album for me, it just had a rawness to it, the horns in it etc , he just painted such a vivid picture in it, I'll always rate it highly, controversially..I never really bothered with tupac or biggie yet they're cerrones top artists
He's from Brooklyn N.Y. and he gave the game n culture timeless music as well as expansion. He didn't sound like a typical east coast or new york m.c. What that means is when you're a real m.c. you can do whatever you feel this album n songs are relevant till this day... Facts!!!
Life was never better - 8th Grade “INC Ride” Fall 1995 I remember the buzz phrase was “Ride ride ride the ride ride ride” we was at the highschool football game then sneaking out after midnight, meetin up with girls in the neighborhood “it’s the ride y’all, you know you wanna ride…”
I remember rocking born to roll for time thinking i knew where he was at. Then all of a sudden the westside flavour came in to the music and I wasn't sure where he was from any more. Now it all makes sense. Masta Ace is a true pioneer in the Hip Hop game making moves back then that people wouldn't even do now
YOU APPEALED TO BOTH COASTS BROTHER..THANK YOU! I BOUGHT YOUR FIRST ALBUM IN NEW YORK FEATURING "ME AND THE BIZ"! THEN BOUGHT SLAUGHTAHOUSE /BORN TO ROLL/JEEP A$$ NI$$A TOO!! SOME OF THE BEST PURCHASES OF MY LIFE! THANK YOU! NO ARTIST CAN CLAIM JUICE CREW AND HIPHOP WESTCOAST/WORLDWIDE SENSATION!!
This dude from Brooklyn but that Sitting on Chrome album and his crew was very much loved on the West Coast. Many people were kind of confused thinking he was from Cali. The dude is dope. He was signed to a West Coast label. That car culture back then was and still is very unique.
When I first seen Masta Ace he was on the video "The Symphony" featuring Kool G. Rap, Craig G, and Big Daddy Kane and back then I didn't think nothing of him blowing up in the 90's like he did. A lyrical assassin!
Cris LeRoi his homeboy/cousin on the album was from Cali. I think if I remember right conceptually A and B sides were slanted for the coasts. I was in Cali when this came out (still am) and we were fuckin with this album HEAVY. I remember we were a bunch of teenage kids in a break/graf crew, pumas with phat laces, dancing while this was on the boombox. The old man in me, wants a time machine to go back to those good times.
Back in the day I thought he was from The Bay or Barstow or somewhere like that. You know San Jose car show type of stuff. One of my favorite Summertime vibes. We Bay Areans loved it.
To me this man is mad underrated as a MC in hip hop and deserves more credit. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017
Masta Ace is my top favorite artist of all time..probably top 2...A MC who doesn't need to curse every 5 minutes and great story teller..First song..Keep your eyes on the prize straight classic and killed the symphony!!
Been rockin with Master/Masta Ace since Cold Chillin. Loved every album. Sittin on Chrome was a masterpiece to me. "What's Going On" is such a perfect vibe. One of my faves
I remember listening to this when I was 8 year's old for the first time back in 97(I know it came out in 95), I had no idea who masta ace was but the beat and the lyrics mashed together perfectly. I alway's assumed whoever the person was who made the song was from cali based on the sound. Now reflecting back on everything I'm even more impressed that Ace was from New York making a "west coast sound" song due to the whole east vs west "beef" back in the day.
I got you in my top 3 O.G. I was down since take a look around. I understood and appreciated the "me and biz" cut. And "Disposable Arts"!!!...straight classic. After that I feel so much was happening that "A Long Hot Summer" wasn't either accepted or promoted for what I felt was the disposable arts part 2..correct me if I'm wrong..
My top MC. I admire how he takes time to create realistic "observational" rhymes like, "tearing those other cats posters down" with dope samples and beats. I really like the album with Edo as well.
Ace was HUGE in the South. Remember DJ Screw using Sittin on Chrome. That song was what we were about down Souhth. DONK, SLABS, low riders. Ace was one of the few NY MCs that crossed over to the West and South because he know exactly how to tap into the culture there.
Real talk - very few tracks have that b-boy combination of sub-bass on blast, dope lyrics, punchlines and delivery with melody. Was banging ACE hard while at University in Manchester (UK) in 93/94 and still gets heavy rotation when I need to get amped. Not being from the US was a blessing because I took music at face value only, skills and beats - all the other fake stuff was trashed - east/west was clearly a gimmick from the start. Looking back - I put born to roll in my top 5 hip\hop videos of all time - alongside Planet Rock - Bambaataa/ Pharcyde-Drop/Digable Planets - 9th Wonder / Racionais MC's - Vida Loka pt 2
It was wild because the Slaughtahouse album was hardcore Brooklyn…but Sittin on Chrome was less regional and incorporated a west coast vibe At the time it was such a drastic shift in style for people that wanted him to stick to the strict east coast style but you can’t deny how good the music was He adopted a sound that wasn’t typical NYC first…Cash Money Click with Ja Rule did it second…Biggie did it next…Cam’ron and Dipset did it after…and now tons of NY rappers sound like they’re from the south or Midwest
Idk Cold Chillin' Masta Ace. When "I.N.C. Ride" came on The Box all day, definitely was a West type jam, but we knew he wasn't from CA. We liked that shit fasho.
This Answered everything. I always wonder what the deal With was.with the west coast sound ..he late 80 90 and now 2000 masta ace is always doing something new ..you can. Never predict what his music is gonna be.. I still he very underground . I sure ppl. Have heard his name but I don't think ppl really know the man behind the music
That Sitting on Chrome was the 2nd CD I bought in my Life. INC Ride did it for me, after watching the video on the BOX. Still have that CD til this day. Still laugh at the Oh my bad n**** that sandwich was yours. lol. Mom had a 92 Red Corolla, and when he mentions that car on Born 2 Roll track I was like yea my moms roll'n now, haha. *Edit: that 92 Corolla I had painted twice in my life was found one day in the junkyard when I was looking for a side mirror for one of my cars. That car was born 2 Roll cause last owner had it as a lil racer, haha.

Masta ace is the shit, he's definitely one of the greatest and an influence to me, very underrated and just purely dope.
me too bro, slaughterhouse is an all time classic to be put alongside Nas illmatic, wu tang 36 chambers, Pete rock cl smooth main ingredient etc

Dude is personally on my top 5. He's extremely technical while making it look so easy.
No doubt, he up there on my top 5 with Biggie, Jay Z, Cube, Mac Dre.
Not just that but his consistency is overlooked. What other emcee from the Golden Era still making quality music like Masta Ace?
Ace epitomizes MC, period. Great interview
Take a Look around is incredibly underrated. Never realized how big the Sittin on Chrome album was
A East Coast artist, jumping on that West Coast vibe.. and pulled it off so well 🔥
Literally song changed my life as a kid. Made me into a car guy to this day.
same here.

sittin on chrome stay in heavy rotation
I bought the single in 94 and in 2015 I ordered that sittin on chrome deluxe package. Amazing album & Artists.

INC Ride and Born to Roll are the joints. His best album. They took instrumental of Born to Roll from some local LA group from the 80's
