Gillian Flynn said she wrote this monologue when she was suffering from writer's block and had no idea how to write this Amy character. She put the entire diatribe in her draft and planned on deleting it later but she kept it last second and everyone loved it. It became legendary because it encapsulated the entire theme of the novel. I can't wait for Flynn's next novel that is coming out around 2022.
As a young woman, it's a suffering we inflict on ourselves, when we don't understand relationships. Most of us of have gone through this phase, and grow out of it. Amy is when you keep living in it, even guys do it, Nick literally did, too.
The book is more clear on how both Nick and Amy are horrible people and are horrible to each other. And in some twisted f***Ed up way, they deserve each other.
if this is "cringe" then what the hell are you here in the first place? people use the word "cringe" for literally everything that shit lost its meaning a long time ago. if you don't like something then don't look for it or just ignore it and get on with your life while other people live their own "cringe" lives
No she's not complaining about that. If you see the whole thing, after this, she says that they were both pretending but then he got lazy, he expected her to love him unconditionally, spent all her money and found himself a younger girl. That's what she's bitter about

Is it a sequel to this???
@@aimforlifenow I doubt it but a Gone Girl sequel would be AMAZING. There’s actually a lot she could do with it.
This is not exactly what is in the book.
thank you for making this, the Cool Girl Monologue is one of the best monologues in cinema history
I admire Julian Flynn, it's like she took the suffering of all young women and turned it on this monologue.

0:15 is the most accurate statement ever
First time I saw this movie I only thought of her as the villain. Now, I see him is not innocent at all. She's deranged, he's a jackass.
So basically they're perfect for each other
she is amazing. Only mistake was staying with that loser. He should have framed and fled to another country to live a happy life

it's sorry it sounds like a cougar😭
She sounds very bitter over stuff no one forced her to do. She could have just left if she didn’t like it
No one forced him to step out of the relationship no one forced him to hit her and spend all their money. Why didnt he just leave?
