    I agree with Alexis point, the WNBA needs to be honest with themselves. They want to keep having drafts but cutting majority of the new talent coming in. There’s also not enough roster spots and I don’t see expansion happening soon enough. What’s the point of having drafts if you’re gonna just keep the vets 10+ seasons with only 144 spots available? Either stop having drafts every year or put limits on the amount of years you can play in the league.

      @politicallil7060 Год назад +3

      I agree; how many people would have watched the draft had those class of 2023 students not made their way. Then it's a turn-off to stage a draft just to draw off the college game's 9.9M viewers, then throw them out like they are some trash; that's not how you build a fan base. WNBA should have kept those rookies playing in a summer league of their own where people wanted to support them.

    I agree, i think there should be a limit of how many years you can be in the league. The WNBA will never expand and grow if it can’t get new players that fans actually want to see. I was thinking about watching Lex this year. Now I’m not even remotely interested in the WNBA.

    • @KayKayy98
      @KayKayy98 Год назад +3

      Exactly! But if you say this the vets are gonna use it as a personal attack. Of course the vets deserve to be there too but the WNBA needs talent along with marketability which is what the new players bring in!

      @@politicallil7060 - honestly, the league does not need you as a fan then, if all you care about is seeing newer players, and not elite level talent. If you think the WNBA lacks talent and isn't exciting, that's the biggest problem that the league faces. Casual fans like you who don't even watch the league, making sweeping judgements about the game play of the league, is crazy as hell.

    • @joshg7136

      @@finisher3x They defiantly need new fans if they want to make it as a league on their own. I’m not saying the league lacks talent. I’m just a huge LSU fan, and I build connections with players in college. I want to watch these players in the league, I do the same in the NFL. I don’t want to wait half a decade before Alexis Morris gets a chance to get minutes over the vets. Same with HVL, and Reese. I want to see them have a chance to start as rookies, just like they would get if they were men in the NBA. I’ve seen Iowa fans get ticked off for the same reason with Monika Czinano getting waived as a rookie.

    There is the other lady excellent shooter from Ohio State that was also waived by Indiana Fever whose name is Taylor Mikesell who is deadly on 3-point range she was cut by Fever. New talents are being cut but those who have already been 8 years 10 years and 11 years are still there and they are already old players. There is no wisdom why new players are being cut. I believe the WNBA should need 6 more ball clubs or teams to expand in order to accommodate new players and redistribute the veterans to the newly expanded teams. That is the only solution to make WNBA more exciting, more teams, and more excitement.

  • @ReadR00ster1

    The vets are just plain better and more deserving in most cases. The WNBA needs to later in the season so the season doesn't start right after the draft. And also until they add more teams they should only have a draft every other year.

    Sorry, but I agree; if you don't put a marketable product on the floor, you will be league out...people have to love and be attached to your product; the WNBA is not right if a business doesn't make money then they just are not making any sense...the customer determines what's profitable. Only 10% of players in either pro basketball league are elite. The WNBA needs to create a way to keep these marketable players around and develop them until they are ready. I'm sorry, I don't know no business that would turn down 9.9M potential fans. They say Reese won't make the league either; she is so called not elite, not that I think she cares. How silly is it that she has hooked up with Kim Kardashian, who has over 343M followers? Are you trying to build a fan base or keep your hookups in play? Then they complain about the pay...fans pay your salary, you don't bring in who the customers want to see you going continue to make salaries that run you overseas every year.

      Aaliyah Boston - Diamond Miller - Maddy Siegrist - Lou Lopez Senechal - Haley Jones - Grace Berger - Laeticia Amihere - Jordan Horston - Zia Cooke - Leigha Brown - Dorka Juhasz - Ashley Joehs . . . were all college players who were drafted in the first 2 rounds, that made a team. All of these women have legit shots to be rotation players and play in a game. The women who got cut, were not going to play. Just because popular players from LSU and Iowa didn't make a WNBA roster, doesn't mean the league isn't worth watching.
      The facts are that these "new women basketball fans" are only fans of the college players that they watched, and not fans of the womens game as a whole. Because if you actually like high quality basketball, the WNBA provides that. Cutting quality vets in favor of lesser talented rookies, will actually make game play of the league worse.
      A 14 year vet like DeWanna Bonner can still run and shoot better than these 21 year old rookies that are coming in. So why should DeWanna ride off into the sunset, just to let a rookie who won't contribute, take up a roster spot? Even her current team was like . . hell no.
      I agree that the league should expand to give more of these borderline players a chance to make a roster. But to get to that point, you "new fans" still have to support the current WNBA product. These teams aren't going to appease you by keeping your favorite college player on a team, when they know she's not good enough to be a contributor on the floor.

      As for Angel . . . I would agree that she doesn't have the total offensive skill set to maybe not be a high level WNBA player. What she does have, is defensive tenacity and the ability to score around the rim, because she plays very physical. Angel really needs to work on her jumpshot, because she may not get the kind of post touches in the WNBA, that she gets in college. She's not going to be the biggest girl on the court, so she may not be nearly as dominant at the next level, as she is in college.

    I love women's basketball and care about the future of the WNBA. It was 1996. There was no pro league for women in the US and the pressure was on for America to win a Gold Medal in Women's Basketball in Atlanta because we won a Bronze in 1992 with a team that was probably the most talented team at the Barcelona Games. Well, smart people were tasked with forming a women's National team that not only would win the Gold Medal but a team who could also ignite more interest in Women's Basketball as a viable Pro Sport. The team was amazing. It was not comprised of the 12 best women's players America had. Nope. The team had Veterans like Teresa Edwards, Katrina McClain, Lisa Leslie, and Dawn Staley... but guess what? UConn and Tennessee was a big thing back then and those teams brought ratings and fan interest to Women's Basketball. Rebecca Lobo and Nikki McCray were the two 'babies' on that team from UConn and Tennessee. Neither player was one of the 12 best women's players at the time, but Thank God someone was smart enough to say "We have to prepare a place... for these two young stars who are the future of our sport and who are generating fan interest." That 1996 team went on to win the Gold Medal and the WNBA was born...Cynthia Cooper, who wasn't even on the 1996 team but was damn good enough to have been... won the MVP! That's how you do things! We love and respect our Veterans but please, you have to mix in your promising rookies. Why have a draft if you know you've made up your mind? You're forcing young ladies to try out for something that you know you've already decided you're going to stick with the vets. Just be real about it. Stop having a WNBA Draft if we, the fans don't get to watch your drafts play! Clean it up, WNBA!

      Once again . . . . 17 of the top 20 WNBA picks, made the team and 11 out of 12 1st round picks made a team. And there are 26 rookies that made a team. All of your TOP LEVEL college players coming out from last season, made a WNBA roster with no problem. People are complaining about 2nd and 3rd round picks that didn't make a team. Even in the NBA, 60% of 2nd round picks are not on the main NBA roster in year 1. Those picks are sent to the G-League for development. Some make it out of the G-League, most do not.
