Newton Alfred Winn, a civil attorney in St. Petersburg, Florida, was apprehended in March 1989. He was the owner of a Florida-based School Pictures franchise and was one of the twelve names listed on the ransom note and among the ones that sent their money back to Robert. About four years before Annie's abduction, he had been sued by the company for over $153,000.
A month before the kidnapping, Winn had purchased a van that matched the description of the one Annie's neighbors saw around her house the day she was kidnapped. The descriptions of the van's driver also matched his appearance. Two witnesses had also identified Winn as a man they had seen in a van in front of the Hearin home in the weeks prior to the abduction. Authorities also learned that Winn had asked his paralegal to help him fabricate an alibi for the day of the kidnapping.
A woman contacted the FBI and told them that Winn had promised her $500 to travel from Florida to Atlanta, Georgia, and mail a letter for him; this occurred sixteen days after the kidnapping. He handed her a manilla envelope; inside was the second letter, wrapped in a gray linen napkin. Winn instructed her not to look at or touch the letter, but when she deposited the letter she had to ease the napkin off. That is when she observed the writing on the letter. Later, she identified the letter as the one that Robert had received from his wife.
Though he maintained his innocence throughout, Winn was convicted of conspiracy to commit kidnapping, extortion, and perjury in 1990. He was sentenced to nineteen years and seven months and was released from prison in April 2006. He died in August 2012. No one has ever been formally charged with the actual kidnapping of Annie nor has she ever been found. In 1990, Robert died of a heart attack, and a year after, Annie was declared legally dead.

Poor Kyra, that's rough I wonder who did that to her?? I got my head on a wood floor when I was 13 playing with my father. Everything went black for me, I kept trying to wipe away blood that wasn't even there. I lost my memory for 3 whole days, it was terrifying. I still have gray spots about some events that happened before my fall. My mother did not take me to the hospital bc she was afraid my father would get in trouble for for child abuse especially since he had already been in trouble for abusing my older brother just a few months earlier. I still wonder st times if we were playing or if I accidentally hurt him and he got waaay too rough with me, he's no longer in my life

In regards tot hat first case, the Unsolved Mysteries wiki page for it said it happened in September 8th, 1986, 31 long ass years ago now, and it aired for the first time on May 25th, 1987, in just 3 days it will be the 30th anniversary of the airing of her episode and from what I've found on Google, she still hasn't figured out what happenened :(. I can't imagine going 30 years and knowing full well you lost your memory but in those 3 decades not having any sudden flash of insight as to what exactly caused the acute memory loss. Terrifying and sad :[

It perplexes me why anyone would not pay more attention to people who say they can escape.
Fisher talked of money and the other guys wanted their split: classic greed- and stupidity. I don't understand people like that. They can shoot at people, maybe even kill them, and not even care. Sad.

for the girl with amnesia, one word, hypnosis. They didn't mention if that was performed. as for the murder of the 2 boys, you got the information. the guy in his confession told you who it was. quit dismissing it so quickly and investigate it. again hypnosis.

Fisher was a total shithead and maniac...Duncan was a brain dead tosser...why the fuck was he allowed anywhere near the gaol...has to be the most stupid set up ever...what a cluster fuck by the system....the road block was piss useless why did they not shoot at them ...more like Smokey and the Bandit....why not fishtail them...the cops were lousy fucking shots...should have shot the bastards...he should be executed..what a fucked up system where he gets 20 years and is out after 8...no wonder the country is fucked up with outlaws...that woman was stupid to leave her car open so that total shithead murdered her...why did the other driver not call police...just another low life piece of trash who needs to be executed...took 20 years to find him why is he still alive wasting state money..use a butchers knife on him like he did to her....so are the other 12 involved...why was that bastard not charged with murder as well as the extortion...should be executed not out and free...seeing as they have never found her yet...have to wonder if the guy who helped her was a felon and did not want to go to police with her...had someone attacked her which caused the bump and amnesia....especially as her purse and the bag was missing so sounds like someone mugged her...and hit her over the head....hope she gets well soon....bet one of the kids or some passing shithead set fire to the old shed and killed the two of them...sounds like they were dead before the fire...and jammed the door shut to stop them escaping...typical asshole cops ignored what the two witnesses saw because of their past crimes...were the two killers drug dealers...

In 2005, DNA evidence found in the paisley hat linked Gretchen's murder to Tyrone Maurice Hamel, who was found serving a life sentence in Texas for robbery and rape. Investigators learned that he had been in Palo Alto at the time of the murder for a friend's funeral. Along with Gretchen, he also robbed and raped several women at knifepoint in Texas. He was arrested for those crimes sometime later in 1988.
In 2007, a fingerprint at the scene was also linked to Hamel. In January 2008, he confessed to her murder and pleaded guilty. Since Gretchen did not believe in the death penalty, Hamel was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
