Awesome bike. I despatched the 1100 as a courier in the UK. Smooth and powerful with amazing low speed handling and great weather protection. The dogs in the gearbox eventually gave up after about a 100,000 miles, hardly surprising given the relentless abuse I gave it. I was on it for up to 14 hours a day and dont ever remember getting a sore backside. Great memories !!
@@mr.m325 the only 500 I had was the truly souless gs500e. Started oñ my zxr 750, 2 X gt 550, 2 × gt 750, 125 dt, gsx1100e, fj1100, 3 x k1100lt's and 2 x r100rt's etc,. I did well over a million miles and you need big low stress engines to soak up the mileage
I had an FJ1100 and after a couple of hours my fingers were tingling with the vibration. Other than that it was the best bike I ever had (never rode the 1200 though).
Back in the Day I would ride from Oklahoma City to Dallas with good friends of mine and we'd tear Dallas up . Two guys had BMW's a K 100 and a totally tricked out Cafe 1000 . I had my Ninja 900 and the other guy had what I'd call the nicest FJ 1100 I'd ever seen ( until now ) . His had F1r mufflers and it was sweet . I thought I had the rocket of the bunch but when we rode at 100mph + I learned differently . Whenever we wicked them open at that speed I was downshifting or I had ride at high rpms . All he had to do was whack the throttle open or maybe downshift once and it was GONE ! Beautiful bike.... PK
I have owned both the 11 and 1200s and can attest to the how great these bikes are, in fact I've just finished completely restoring my 87 1200 and plan on putting some serious miles on it soon. Criminally underrated bikes that handle really well with stone axe reliability. A real credit to the design team.
I had a 1993 FJ1200 ABS which believe it or not I got in early 1995 as a new leftover at a substantial discount. The Ninja had come into vogue and these were considered old hat. I’m now 70 and to this day this was by far the best and my most favorite bike ever. I wish I still had it. If I had seen this video the day it came out I would have been tempted to buy it. The 89 color scheme you have here is my favorite it was just beautiful. The torque that engine produced was unreal. What an amazing machine.
Iv owned the 88 model from new bought in Elizabeth Street Melbourne Yamaha city back in the 80s after many years and KMs without any issues i decided to trade her in for my other Yamaha FJR 1300 06 which iv also owned from new these FJ series and the FJR series are absolutely bulletproof smooth reliable and fast iv just ticked over 167 KMs im going to ride her as far and as long as im still around im 65 and have been riding since the 60s love hearing the whirl of the 4 cylinder engine made by Yamaha a very good long distance sports tourer and so very comfortable you can sit on 1 all day every day without any aches and pain's compared to some of the bike's they make nowadays also amazing bike to just ride very relaxed around the city some of the bikes you will struggle to do that with these days and then cost a fortune or an arm and a leg 🦵
Bummer, looks like I missed the auction on this fine FJ. I have the same bike, though in much rougher shape. Great bikes these FJ's. Fast, comfortable, super stable, well handling machines.
This sounds and goes way better than the yellow bike you demoD They are known as the torque master general some hill climb guys actually put these engines in car set ups they are so grunty and aircooled simplicity make them absolute tanks in durability .
Really nice bike! I’m missing where the camera guy used to throw the mic to ken sr! And Ken would catch it and it was pretty cool, bring the mic back! God bless America 🇺🇸
I bought an '89 way back when they were new and I still ride it. Great bike. Check your owner's manual, they don't have 6.5 gallons. IIRC it is more like 5.8. I only run ethanol free because I found the ethanol causes corrosion in the carbs. Evil stuff. Mine is just as fast as it was 33 years ago but I've slowed down myself!
Great bikes! ... I had a red/white '86, fast, fun, handled great and reliable. That thing would get up to triple digit speeds like nothing, miss that bike.
I drive a 92 FJ1200ABS I'VE ADDED 3/4" bar Risers and an inflatable seat pad on Corbin saddle. I can't imagine a more comfortable bike with an insane scream and growl. A beautiful stable tourer or sstraight up drag bike.
@@thomaslouis5626 rad! I love my b king I was on the hunt for one for a while and finally one popped up in my area low miles very clean. I’m tall guy and it fits me well! On my channel I put a vid of a walk around of the b king check it out 😎
i still have one. Some years back the 1100er, now the 1200. Great bike, one of the best ever built. Specially for the swiss-alps too, there are some old movies on channel, terrible quality😂many years back
The Manic Mechanic is right. Shell VPower is the best 93 out there. Could feel the extra power and snappier throttle response in my foxbody. My MT09 also loves it.
At one time this is my dream bike. I used to commute a long way on the freeway is very early in the morning and I was driving a 500 cc Kawasaki ninja I think it was an EX 500 at the time and I like the sport bikes and a friend at work had one of these and we swapped bikes for a couple days and I have those long early morning freeway commute with nobody else on the road these were amazing and luckily I didn’t get a ticket. My tastes have completely changed but these were fast powerful and incredibly comfortable all at the same time. You could ride for three or four hours on these with no problem yet it was still sporty and fun and kind of huge but that’s crazy on a freeway. I loved it for that reason it was a very comfortable practical supervisor do you spend a lot of time on.
This year i sold my 2019 gixxer 1k and 2012 cbr1000rr and I left with realbime gsxr1100 well tuned in red/black paint... Look stunning and sounds even better... A real man bike.
I used to ride one of these in a lighter shade of blue. I was amazed at the top end of this bike for the time as when you were up there, it would feel like a giant hand trying to pull you off the bike due to the aerodynamics. Should never have sold it.
Same year and colour as my 3cv model, sounds great with Lazer sports end cans and handles a hell of a lot better with an fzr 1000 exup rear wheel and progressive front springs. 👍❤️🇬🇧
I had an -84 FJ1100 and I loved it. Sorry to say but it have had a long journey before in history and a lot of things were no too great anymore. For instance the camchain was slack and it was wery difficult to strechen the cam chain. another thing was about the second gear. It was not reliable. I tried to make the best out of it but had to sell it after a while. Now I long for an FJ1200 with better brakes, more modern tire size and other things. It is a great sports tourer!
One beautiful bike. I always liked those. They were both quick and reliable. *****Is it safe to run Shell V-Power in my RZ 350, since Non-Ethanol is very hard to find where I live in Louisiana? Was thinking about running the same in my Gas Gas dirtbike, if you think that's safe. Lastly, since I don't know how to work on dirtbikes, do you think it's a good idea to get insurance for the GasGas dirtbike?
Shell stations are dirty ghandi Marts here 😢 45mins from the museum.. so if you want fresh clean snacks and cigs for good prices you still have too go too a Cumberland… I pay at the pump that’s not broken at shell I don’t even go in you get sick from the place & clientele.
