Great discussion of the expansion and how it affects the gameplay and strategy space. I felt very similarly to you in your discussion: Ix was an expansion that refined the game wonderfully. Immortality is a true "expansion", in the full sense of the word. But in the end, I'm not one for expansions that push out the strategy space or change the game as much as this one does. I will say, I love that this game has an expansion for both kinds of players, because this game has rocketed to the top of my list of favorites :)

Well put, Alexander. It’s really a great game and more options for different preferences is definitely welcome. Thanks for watching & cheers from Alaska!

    Great review.
I've recently discovered a very healthy Tabletop Simulator scene for Dune: Imperium on Discord and Immortalilty is already being played a lot. I think for those who have played a tonne of Rise of Ix, then this Immortaility is a welcome refresher, which focuses on the deckbuilding and opens up new strategies for exploration. I think its a great little expansion, with the only sad thing being that they didn't choose to add in a couple more leaders which focus on the new mechanisms. It seems like it could have been an easy addition. I'm sure that there wil be some fan made leaders created soon.

I've come to the point in my gaming life where I don't need every expansion for every game I've own. I've learned that some expansions just make the base game unwieldy and hard to get to the table which doesn't make it worth buying. I've also have had some expansions that greatly enhance the gameplay with small tweaks like Prelude for Terraforming Mars which I'll never play without. I lean more towards expansions that enhance the current gameplay of the base game without taking the game in a completely new direction.

"Jelly blob" is a good term but first time I saw those "gelatinous cube" popped in my mind.

Also good. Anytime you can conceptually work a gelatinous cube in, it's worth it.

I thought I will not need this expansion, but tbh... it is very good. Having it with Rise of IX it is spot on!

This for covering this one. I’m a fan of the base game and have yet to get an expansion. Seems as though Rise Of Ix is more my speed.
In general, I prefer expansions that add content but do not add tons of new rules. So I would rather the expansion enhance the base game instead of turning it on its head

Great review! I agree, I would never play Dune Imperium without the Rise of IX expansion anymore, but I would still play Rise of IX without Immortality.
Small note: It's Tleilaxu (Tlee-lax-oo) though, not Tee-li-ax-oo.

They should release some PDF updated board with each expansion, so we would have the option to print it as a single piece. Anyway, do you think the game takes longer to end with both expansions? I like LONG ones (that's what she... yeah, nvm).

I like the tech and the new leaders in IX, but dislike the shipping in IX. The shipping makes everyone just vie for Spacing Guild influences. Immortality makes the games play more like deckbuilder than IX. IX also introduces more ways to win, due to the research track.

The tech is cool but yea shipping essentially devalues combat and harvesting spice and just generally ruins the game. Immortality is great though

No, you do not need this expansion. It speeds up VP triggering End Game sooner and the extra board has zero interaction, even less than the Influence track. A lot of players prefer long term deckbuilding finesse (getting more value out of trashing) and the thrill of combat.
Rise of Ix is a good expansion, improving Space Guild and offering extra stuff to buy with spice and solari. While Immortality isn't terrrible and offers variety it doesn't improve the game otherwise.

I wonder if there's gonna be players that just IGNORE the Scarab track as well as the Specimen track & cards and just focuses on winning without it. It may prove the Immortality expansion superfluous fluff. (I hope not)

This new expansion feels shallow compared to Ix. We didn't get new leaders or new combats. New tracks are fun but I Ix made bigger impact.
