This is not a REPAIR!!! It's a replacement.
I disliked this video because the title is a bit misleading. This isn't a repair or fix of a seal failure. This is simply glass replacement. Good for glass sales but not really what I was searching for, which is a way to fix the film that has developed between glass panes.
I am a professional and this is the only way to fix a faulty seal. You have to replace the glass. You might be able to SUCK the moisture out but it will keep fogging up on you. It's just best to replace the glass.
This is like asking how to fix a tire that has no threads left.....
I worked for a time in a job making up these units. I see no problem with taking this glass unit apart cleaning the glass, then putting in new silica gel into the aluminium frame and assembling it with the appropriate sealant again It will be as good as new. This idea of having to get new glass this crap. Only said by someone selling the glass. For someone on a tight budget, it should cost no more than time, cleaner and sealant. This professional was not wanting to to give the cheaper alternative to any half witted handy man.
And for the other comnent made, it is not a tyre. How he comes to with that relationship beats me. He knows nothing about it.
I've been in the glazing industry for 30 years now and although you may technically be able to do what you're suggesting, it's by no means cheaper than having a new unit installed as what you're suggesting would take WAY more time and there would be no guarantee it would work. #1 because you're not guaranteed that the condensation hasn't etched itself on the glass, and #2 you run the risk of breaking the unit when extracting it and/or when you're cutting the unit open, and #3 you run the risk of damaging the spacer when cleaning it up for this repair....and when dealing with urethane, this clean up is EXTENSIVE....then the clients out the time the technician took to attempt that repair, the cost to board up the opening while waiting on a new unit to come in, and also time and materials to do it the way they should have in the first place. A new unit comes with a factory warranty, whereas no professional glass shop would warranty repairing a unit they know will most likely not last very long even if lucky enough to get through it without glass breakage, no etching on the inner panes and no damage to the spacer.

This video is not about repairing -- it is about replacing foggy window.
Thanks Useful information in a clear and entertaining manner
We'll show you how to repair your window by buying a new pane of glass from my shop, AWESOME VIDEO!
With low e coated argon filled, like Andersen, ya swap out the entire factory made sash..low e 3 current glass has coating on both sides on the inner glass in the space between the two, and SUN glass has a darker and another coating surface
Great info. I was getting ready to replace my entire window and ran across this video. Seems like the average DIY'r can handle this. Wouldn't it be a good idea to replace the gasket as well and where can you order those? Thanks.
The new double pane will have a gasket. Between the panes is nitrogen, so it must be factory sealed.
Are you sure on the nitrogen gas, argon gas is the norm and no gasket does not come with replacement units.I have been manufacturing them for 35 years and low e and gas is only applied in 24mm thickness and upwards .Also if the original is not a low e unit then it will not colour match with the originals.
been in the glass business for over 40 years-you can in some cases cut the panes apart and clean the glass.most often the condensation caused an etched stain in the glass that is not cleanable-even if it is and you replace the spacer (with new dessicant inside it) and try to seal it again it will most likely fail soon again.it is not worth the effort.do yourself a favor and order a new thermopane unit.sincerely-arn e-aurora glass-east aurora ny
Thanks for the feedback John. There is no way to reuse a failed unit. The way to fix the problem is to replace it. I did this for about $30 so it's a pretty cheap and relatively easy fix if you ask me.
You may have been able to order the glass for 30 But I can tell you that glass would cost the average guy at least $60.00. If you own your own shop then yes you paid about 30.
Where is the best place to purchase replacement glass? Can it be ordered/purchased online?
@@jkopvo IN So Cal Fast Glass in Pomona i just picked one IGP up one day and price is good they have low e and gas and i think laminate is available if you ask and i recommend it for peace and quiet, I used it in two rooms and I regret not doing all the windows and I also recommend low e on both inner surfaces of the IGP , so 3 glass panels 2 inner surfaces of IGP low E and laminate 2 of the 3 panels together and that is a great window for not a lot of money and use cardinal glass if offered. I hope its ok to recommend a specific co as manufacturers that you can walk in and order from nice girls that know their stuff is hard to find
@@Satiatingmusic - nice info about sourcing IGPs in Pomona. I'm curious if it is preferable to skip the low E coating on north facing windows. Obviously there is little to no infrared heat that needs blocking and I assume the lack of coating will allow more slightly more sunlight through, which is badly needed on north facing windows that already don't get enough sunlight.
Thanks Dan. Good video, good demonstration.
I don't know what all the fuss is about. It was a great video.. Thumbs up!
Title is wrong. This video is not about fixing, repairing and condensation removing. It is rather about replacing a window.
If you really want to know how to replace a SEAL, just go straight to the source and ask Heidi Klum. With that being said, Nice Window Dog
Or his previous wife that was struck by a rose on the Gray
Great video bro. Thumbs up...
Just took my plastic off my 34 inch exterior door and found the window a little foggy. Do you think I can order the glass for the specific door ? Great video, Hope you caught some fish!
Lincoln Windows told me that the Low-E side faces inside. Maybe it depends on the window.
the low e side is the third surface from the outside-for example-a thermopane has 4 sufaces-2 in and 2 out-the third surface will face the outside-it has the low e coating on it-you can install it backwards. sincerely arn e aurora glass.a thermopane has 4 surfaces-2 in and 2 out-the low e coating is on the 3rd surface
The replacement for my 33x75" is $650. There's no way the insulated glass has saved that much energy over the years, it's all just another eco-scam!
No window is cost-free even after factoring theoretical energy savings based on hypothetical alternative scenarios.
I think a better question to ask is if the additional cost of a double pane window over an ancient single-pane window will pay for itself over time. This is called the break even point. If you pay more money but can break even in less than 7 years, it's probably worth spending the extra money. If break even takes more than 7 years then you probably would have been better using that extra money to invest. It's my understanding that it will take more than 7 years to have saved enough energy to make double pane windows worth the cost. This is because the typical house is older and poorly insulated. Typically 30% of energy cost is in heating or cooling your home (this varies wildly depending on your climate). Much of the energy loss is through your walls, ceiling, and floors, and of course your windows. If your home is well insulated then double pane windows may well pay for itself in less than 7 years and would be worth paying extra for. My home was built in 1966 and is very poorly insulated but it came with double pane windows when we bought it so I'm thankful to the previous owner who spent lots of money to benefit me. A side benefit of double pane windows is if you live on a noisy and busy road it greatly cuts down the sound that enters your home.
So . . . You replaced a window on a home you rented for vacation? Did you get the landlord's permission first? And did they discount your stay?
I agree with the comments below/ title is misleading
Where do u get the glass from?
The video's title is a lie. The failed seal is not fixed; the entire window is replaced. Condensation is "removed" by throwing out the old window.
Thanks for the video. We have wood windows and need to replace due to foggy glass. How do you take apart a wood window that there are no screws, just glued together I'm guessing? Any suggestions?
+Krm Krm probably not glued. I bet there are screws somewhere. They're probably hidden underneath a trim piece so you can't see them.
I think the wood on some windows might be nailed or stapled in.
No man! you didn´t repair the condensated glass panel, you just put a new double glass unit.
Am I the only one who checked playback speed because I thought I was on X2 speed he speaks that fast 🤣
Idon'tknowwhatyoumean.He doesn'tspeakfastatall.
how do you know if it isn't just a bad seal, wouldn't the new glass fail as well if that seal is leaking?
+chadv82 No. The double pane glass is the sealed unit. I threw out the old unit and installed a new one. If the new one was defective it may fail, but that's pretty unlikely and covered by the warranty from the fabricator. The gasket around the glass is just to keep water from getting inside the sash, between the wood and the glass, not to keep the glass unit sealed. Hope that helps!
TheWindowDog.com alright thanks. Appreciate the video too.
HI Chadv82 they come from the manufacturer with a minimum of 10 years against seal failure.
From where did you order the glass?
Zac - hey baby
nice try... you replaced a window. thats actually easy. how to repair the existing unit, perhaps without even removing it from the frame/window/location?
I am not sure the WindowDog is really all that knowledgeable.
That is a universal cure for everything. Just buy a new one!
He seems so nice. I try not to hate him
place a fuckin cam let the dog in peace
I worked 6 years with an old rime window guy, wood putty special knives for applying putty,,this was around mid 1990s, he cut & installed the upper bay windows 45 years ago, still visible in office bldg space on irving milwaukee & belmont I think, in chicago,he retired & I went to work in a vinyl & aluminum glass window outfit,I was there 5 years, seal failure happens because after the glass is cut by the guy on the steel work bench ( a lot of waste occurs there because the track needs to be clean & soft wood, not steel which
cracks &breaks off glass edges),,the glass is cleaned with windex type blue cleaner,,nononononononononno, get the glass squeaky clean with a can of warm water, cleanclean cotton rags, pumice, coat once with the rag dipped in a bit of pumice ( cerium oxide works too), wipe off till the glass squeaks, then one more dusting with the pumice ,blow off all residue, then apply the rubber cement to bind both sides together, naturally, stick the gas filling line for vacuuming the air out, then injecting inter gas, glass sold in bulk carries a coating of minute plastic beads,,this coating is why expensive custom glass fails, the real job is to get window makers to lengthen their operation by 3 minutes each window, just try I dareya
How to repair your car - buy a new car!
Why would you replace perfectly good glass when there are hundreds of companies around where you bring them the sealed units they take it apart they reseal the unit and reinstall the gas? Replacing that little sectional unit is probably about two hundred bucks where as you can get it resealed for about $85
if you have questions on glass repair or replacement I will check this site daily and help you with your problems-sincerely arn e-aurora glass-east aurora ny
Your title should have been ‘How to replace frogging window glass’.
I just flagged it as misleading
It is not misleading.
Nowhere in this video is anything misleading.
Misleading title. You did not fix a seal failure, you replaced the glass sandwich like I have many times!
Why not: Separate the two removed glass sheets, clean insides of both & sandwich & reseal on edges with caulking gun material of RTV / silicone? Replace sandwich & clean both sides out?
You cannot clean the glass it is etched into the glass
@@tedkabat4138 the moisture is etched into the glass???
your really not Fixing Seal Failure are you now, you replacing the failed unit
Yea, this is not a fix, its just a replacement. I want one that I can fix in statue as I can't take it out - apart from it being up very high and it being around 3 times the size of the one you have. Very misleading clip.
This isn't a fix or repair.its a replacement.
Your vid is nothing like your description. All you did was replace the glass so why not just say that?
You didn't repair anything you replaced it
You cant repair a failed unit its the hermetic seal thats worn ffs
This is glass replacement not fixing.
I thought you were going to repair the seal.........
Repair??? Since when is going to the store to buy a new one a 'repair' :-)
Why the frig are you replacing windows in a holiday home just tell em you want a different log cabin ya nonces

Window with units. dog picks unit it can't see out of, must be a female dog.
so it isn't a way to fix the foggy window..... its take it out and throw it away.........
My God, DONT push down on a window that close to your body unless you have knowledge of glass! It could have shattered and disemboweled him. Glass MUST be respected.
Misleading video this is not a seal fixed its replacing a window insert
This is replace not fix. Anyone can replace. My grandma can just replace. Very little to no skill to just replace. Ok thanks mr. Turbo talker.
Thumbs Down 👎 for misleading title. Not a repair just a replacement.
You didn't FIX anything! MUMBBLES!!!!
This is a window replacement video.. Nothing about repair of the fog.
The first 40% + of this is a waste of time with no real information given. The remaining 60% only shows how to r&r the old glass with new glass, but not actually do a repair.
This should be titled "How to use a screwdriver and be a bad actor"...thumbs down.
THUMPS DOWN!!!
