Very informative, I think it helps to understand why to approach something in a certain way rather than just following a set of rules that don't provide context around the suggested actions.
Great presentation. One question: If our brains are hardwired to prefer certain patterns, then why doesn't the photographer automatically shoot accordingly? Shoot conscientiously for a composition that you find intuitively pleasing, and I bet you'll be following one of the thiry or so rules you can find on various websites.
I think it's basically because they're tuned to basic human needs (food, survival) rather than artistic stuff and you have to let it escape the primordial ancient parts of the brain and into the more recent creative parts. The ability to do might happen quickly and it might take some time, but I think it's part of a process of trusting your intuition. :)
Another great video, you got me thinking so after your excellent explanation and colourful narrative I Googled the word "Composition" somewhere along the numerous definitions art & photography got a mention, the Science behind photographic composition is informative, I now have to have a down time to get my old brain back in order to look forward to your next presentation....

Great, well-presented video - as usual.
Cheers Jack :)
Excellent video as always. A readable summary of these principles is "Why You LIke This Photo - The Science of Perception" by Brian Dilg.

Excellent analysis Andy! Thanks once more for "pleasing" our "negative space" between our ears...
Cheers Terry :)
