This is the most enlightening channel I subscribe to. While I’m most interested in nature photography, the images and your challenges as to how to look at the images are most instructive even though they may be cityscapes or some abstract shots. It helps me see. Many thanks to you. I’m thinking about my compositions differently and that is a very good thing.
Your channel is most probably one of the most useful from a photography, learning and artistic "démarche" standpoint. Thank you for this work. It's making me rediscover photography.
As a lifer, I have watched just about all your videos, and you are a credit to us all. This video in particular is outstanding. I reckon you should team up with a good publisher to illustrate and write your own books. You look happy.
Just found out about this channel via the RUclips algorithm. Can’t thank that robot enough, what a great channel this is. I did four years of photographic design so the practical and theoretical stuff is somewhere in my head. But your style of explaining is soothing and gets me motivated to go out and shoot and try stuff. Very enlightening to say the least.
I went straight out and took a couple of photos just isolating the subject and found that switching back to full field vision momentarily overwhelming. This video is my lesson plan for the next few months. Thanks Alex.
Thank Youuu sir, i appreciate you sharing your knowledge with everyone. Especially that you really KNOW stuff rather than those that just make videos for the hell of it
Yes, I very much enjoy his photography too. I was going to include him here, but found this great collection by photographers who aren't well known and decided to give them a platform.
I heard someone say once, and they were speaking about composition in painting but the same holds true for photography or any form of created image. "Good composition is the ability to make the viewers eyes dance with the image." It's what leads the viewer through the image and how they ultimately read the story you are trying to tell. I thought that was really quite beautiful.
I've watched a bunch of videos on composition and yours was an excellent summary of the various exercises one can play around with when learning to compose better. Examples were stellar, loved many of them. Thank you!
My favorite minimalist photographer is me 😇😊 I was amused with the Timo Lemmetti moo picture since I did a photo very similar to it few weeks ago, which is my Facebook cover.
Your video inspired me to pick up my camera and photograph my apartment. Any video that causes me to just make images is a wonderful video indeed. Thank you.
Every time I watch one of your videos I find new angles that I just never thought of before. That is why I will always be a so-so photographer. I like the "doing"... I just don't get results that make a person want to look at it a little longer.
Stunningly beautiful images and wonderful and easy to understand concept of composition which plays and important role in photography.I always love your channel. Please keep up the good work.Wishing you all the best and a big thank you.
Such a joy this video was to me. Great examples of how to incorporate composition techniques .A few of my favorite photographers, which use minimalism in their work are Franco Fontana, Francesco Sembolini, and Allan Schaller.
For me this is your best video yet and the examples are terrific. The use of colours of the different surfaces and light/shadows shining through a steel fence/gate in particular struck a chord with me as did the lone figure image taken at night. There is something about coloured planes in photographs that I find particularly intriguing.
Very inspirational and I plan to expand my composition skills in the upcoming New Year 2022! Nice, very nice to view so many female photographer's work and the ones who caught me eye were: Adrian Kathleen, Vicky martin and Sara Ailler....thanks for the subject and encouragement. Love your channel! Susie from Athens, Ohio
I stated to bypass the section on color as I am strictly a b&w photographer. Everything I print or show online is monochromatic. It is just my preference. But as the color segment started, I suddenly realized that I look at colors and decide what a particular filter (red, blue, green, etc.) will do to the gray tones of the image. For example, if I take a shot with a lot of blue sky do I want that sky as a medium tone or add a blue filter to lighten the sky or a red filter to darken it. Thanks for waking me up to what I have been doing intuitively as I edit.
Best video ive watched on photography so simple to understand and very well explained.. thank you. Subscribed..look forward to going throught the rest of your videos..
I had to watch this one several times. You make some very deep points, and are very unique compared to other photographic channel producers. It is an example for all of us, because you are not afraid to approach it from a different angle than everybody else. And this makes your channel one that we can turn to if we don't want to hear about gear. Thanks so much.
I really enjoyed the photography you showcased in this video. Fresh and creative images. Also appreciated your comment about it feeling right. That feeling and being caught up in the viewfinder why I love photography.
Very helpful video! Very well spoken and described. I actually had a couple of good ideas while watching it! Thanks for your videos and inspiration, Alex. James.
I recently discovered your channel and have been enjoying the insights into photography you share. I just realised watching this one that I don't think I've ever seen one of your own photos in a video. I'd love a video dedicated to your work and where your inspiration took you.
Good photography start from what one learn in Art School than what camera one use. Umderstanding the effects of lighting in a photo is the second most important aspect to make the photo stand out.
@@1967davidsrebrnik Not many people are interested in Art and Art Education. I studied Art during my Cambridge "A levels" which covers the subject in quite some details. There were 4 papers for just one subject. One need to cover Imaginative Composition (useful for overall photo composition and use of lighting to enhance a photo), Nature (useful for macro photography), Still Life (useful for product photography) and textile design/printing. Subsequently, I went on to do Advertising which brought all I learn in school to another level. To be reasonably good in photography, one need a foundation in Art. However, it is never too late to learn. One just need to know what is required. Not just buying new cameras and lenses.
Thank you for a very minimalist video on minimalism , you manage to get the teaching point over very succinctly, making for a memorable video . It’s probably out of your control but the video is sadly interrupted many times . I have no problem before & after , other than that (advertisers take notice , if it’s payed while these videos are running I will not purchase it ! & will actively avoid it 😉!) your videos are amazing . ‘ buy me a coffee coming up (but not Costa !😂) thanks D
Once again, Alex, you've informed and inspired. As for minimalist photographers, I'm profoundly affected by the work of Fan Ho. But there are soooo many brilliant minimalist photo artists these days. The genre seems to have enjoyed a renaissance on Instagram, for example. I love experimenting with it because in many ways it feels like a "purer" expression of an image. Rather like a poem might be considered a more refined/distilled version of a novel....
I really enjoy your thoughtful content. Thanks for the time you spend sharing your knowledge and passion for photography. Best wishes from a fellow youtuber! 😀👍
Wish you'd also talk about movement as well. Sometimes, images can be blurry. A person running while everyone is stopped (or vice versa), or weeds breezing in the wind. Things of that nature.

Wow this is literally me right now.
Thanks Photographic eye

Wow, thanks!
Thanks for placing the short breaks in the video. A big help when one plans to save the video for later reference, as I did here in October, 2025.
Superb video again Alex , many thanks 🙏
These photographs…my mind is blown by every image shown in this video
Glad you liked them
I've watched this video wire-to-wire many times and it never gets old.
Good one. I especially appreciate the simplicity of a voice not encumbered by background noise, or what some people would call music.

Thanks Alex! My favourite "minimalistic" photographer is Jason M Peterson. He shoots amazing compositions, usally with his iphone.

As a beginner in photography, your videos are platinum for me,thx lots!!!
Writing down tips. Every one of your videos, is a master class to me. Many thanks from Venezuela. 👍🏼
Michael Kenna's work gives me great visual pleasure. Their atmospheric simplicity very often just takes my breath away.
Yes, I very much enjoy his photography too. I was going to include him here, but found this great collection by photographers who aren't well known and decided to give them a platform.
@@ThePhotographicEye Yes, certainly I can't see anything wrong in publicising lesser-known talents.
Kenna was the first photographer I thought of
This channel is the numberphile of photography

Is it weird that I find your videos not only valuable but also therapeutic?
😶👍👍👍
I'm an ex Adland art director and now a retired bloke that does photography.. your videos are excellent.Keep up the good work .
Thank you so much.
Wow great what a great teacher you are
Absolutely love your channel. Thank you so much for
Love seeing these examples, this just helped me realise my favorite type of photography is minimalist photography
Your video inspired me to pick up my camera and photograph my apartment. Any video that causes me to just make images is a wonderful video indeed. Thank you.
Always useful to be reminded of compositional concepts.
Thanks for watching
Thanks for taking the time to produce these videos.

Alex, you are a natural teacher, in the true sense of both words. Thanks for this wonderful exposition of the topic!

This sounds like a good technique, even if you are not a minimalist, is to learn how to focus on the subject by simplifying the image.

Thanks for the lesson! I really enjoyed this tour of minimal composition. Very inspiring!
Inspiring. I’ve been looking for some new ideas to get back into photography again after a few months break. This might be a good kick off.
One of the best videos I’ve seen on this channel, followed closely by an older video you did on minimalist photography!
TBH, its my favourite genre, so that may be why :D
