Finding DD has literally saved me so much stress in drawing. I've never been good at consistency in character anatomy and this helps remind me how my characters are supposed to look and how their body should relatively look in certain poses. Most definitely a life saver.
A dream come true for those looking to draw dynamic poses. Artists will need to understand how anatomy works for the most part before making a pose though because there is a lot of impossible movement going on in this software.
Even though it lacks character customization, it's certainly a modern way to create model references. Since I'm working towards one day being a pro fantasy illustrator, this program is a good step in the right direction. And this has got to be one of the best tutorials I've ever watched. You actually take the time to let viewers keep up with all the different controls.
Don't forget you can also manipulate each toe of the foot, like splaying them when they stand tiptoe for example (toes have always been the bane for me); and the ability to "shrug" the shoulders. And change perspectives to make it more dynamic your pose. Plus the one time price of $79, it will automatically upgrade for free (to my delight surprise, thinking that if ever they have an upgrade, I would have to dole out additional cash). It recently upgraded to 5.2 this Monday. With new features like able to color your import objects. Its a a very worthwhile software for reference.
Bigggggg thank you my friend. I've been using this for 4+ years now and, as usual, there's a ton of features that are yet to be discovered. Awesome work

Hey! I was just wondering if you know of anyway to create items in the program (weapons and such). Would I have to create it in another software and import it into design doll or can I make it with the software itself?
Thank you. Super helpful! Only respectful suggestion I have is ditch the random blaring sound effects. Pretty jarring while focusing on your smooth voice and the video content.
Thanks so much for the tutorial! I appreciate the effort you put in to it. Unfortunately I'm looking for a program that's very accurate with its musculature and shading which in this vid you said design will isn't great. Do you have any suggestions?
@Trixks Illustration I've jst check your tutorial and when it comes to the sizing with the arrows I strangely do not have the same as you I rather have blue circles around the body parts. Do you know anyway I can set it to have the same arrows as you do? Thank you.
Unfortunately this tutorial is now outdated thanks to the new DesignDoll update to 5.0+ that introduced the circle system. In the sidebar, you can choose to adjust it via the rings (leaves icon) or the arrows (volume adjustment icon). The rings and the centre points do the jobs of the other parts that are missing from the 4.0 arrows now
I have no idea what I did, but I swear, whenever I drag a limb into the position that I want, the second I let go it jumps into some mangled position instead. It's honestly driving me nutters. >>;

If you go into keyboard shortcuts to learn the adjustments you want to activate and use your pen like you would your mouse (e.g. click and drag = press pen down on display and drag) it should work out the same :)
I'm loving your tutorial, but I have a problem...I'm trying to give your pose to my "Lady" (30') but when I click the belly her legs start to move >_< they are not fixed like in your video (I'm using version 5), what am I doing wrong?

Can these design dolls be saved an PNG image files? I downloaded this last weekend and getting used to this. I'm cutting down on commission requests due to the economic situation.
If you're asking if it's safe to download then yes, just as far as I know there's something in the new updates that has messed with the code that Windows doesn't recognise as safe. But as long as u download from their website, it should be all good :)
Yes you can, you just need the 3d object file to place in the document. I personally don't know how to do that so in the past I've just found a pre-made model that holds one from the Doll Library: doll-a.net/terawell/ Copied the code to place the model into the file I'm working on (this only works with paid-for version) and then copied the sword/bat etc. off the newly added model and gave it to my model.
Hmm never come across an error like that before, maybe open the program as an administrator next time? Or try exporting to a different location like your desktop
Yes unfortunately, that's a paid-for feature. You either gotta keep the program open in case you want to work on the same file again or pay the one-off fee
Yup, only the once - and as long as you keep your unique code saved somewhere, you can download DD on as many devices as you like (in my experience) and unlock the paid-for features on all of them
Ummmm I don't know, it allows 3d object files to be added to parts of the model like props (in paid for mode I think?) but I don't think I've ever seen clothes. You'd probably get away with a hat or helmet at most
Yes it is if you download it from the official website, the latest version just pops up with a warning because of something they need to work on in the coding
