- In this week's show, we are going to discuss magic, its history and what it really is and why it's so tantalizing and intriguing and even a useful tool for cult recruitment and practice. This is a huge subject and one that has beguiled a great many people over the years and has everything to do with cult-style manipulation. See you tonight at 6pm MST/8pm EST.

I am 54, and just learning to set boundaries. To do so without being crushed by guilt is hard, but very liberating. I wish I had learned it 30 years ago.
💜 your shirt. A lot of days, I need negative stars.
Benson and snuggles not struggles is a highlight of my week. He is sooooo adorable. Please, scratch his little ears and give him a tummy rub for me.
Hell was an invention of the Catholic church after the 1st Century. Then there's alchemy, which can be used in its literal term, but can also be used in a philosophical way (about transformation). Magic also comes from the Magi - the "wise men" in the Bible stories. People who hold secret knowledge - priests in ancient Persia. Esoterica channel is excellent around alchemy, magic, hermeticism and more. Even how Yahweh became god. It's all fascinating - great show, Chris and Mel and would love a part 2!
On trust, some people were betrayed in past relationships and accuse their current partner of things that are not true, it is not always gaslighting
What should we think about rosicrucianism? On the surface it looks like intriguing, but every time I've tried to take a closer look, it has looked like nonsense. It seems to be some kind of platform on which people can project their own nonsense.
On this topic of "cults" and "magic" I have wondered something recently:
Hubbard was evidently introduced to Crowley's brand of "magick" via Jack Parsons. In this kind of "culture", initiates are introduced to the group in a ritual similar to that know from the Freemasons - you are "symbolically" being threatened with death but your execution sentence is deferred. For the Masons some symbolic salutations include "I agree to have my throat slit and my stomach disemboweled should I betray the secrecy of the group".
I wonder whether the handing over of power to Scientology by means of auditing confessionals and the surrender of personal relationships for more and more intense involvement in the group is sold to practitioners in a similar way - that somehow by "submitting" they will become purified and transformed by the masters (or .. the one "master") of Scientology.
Maybe that is where Hubbard got this from - apart form the fact that it just helps him "assume power over every man and every woman" :D
