Have you considered making the land a food forest? It cuts down on the heat and dust storms plus it's your personal rainforest and provides food without a whole lot of work once it's all set up.

You should be so proud of yourself! When embarking on a project such as this with as much 'de-construction' as you've had to do, it might be hard to see the improvements but you have got to have a good foundation for the future years to come. While it might be difficult to always see the upsides, you should definitely celebrate the wins, celebrate harder the more challenging it was to accomplish it! You deserve it. You are a badass. Cannot wait to see what else you do going forward.

Very impressive! Lived in Laughlin/BHC area for 12 years and found have 2 pro tips to help you with heat cold transfer with the windows. 1. Install exterior sun screens on the windows. or 2. Install reflective window film on the interior windows.( cheaper option). Keep up the good work.

Growing up in Vegas in the hoods, it was aluminum foil for the summers 😂. Super cheap. When my parents made money, we got sun screens 😊. Both work. And foil on the south facing window only was needed.

I know what is like to work in a different environment. I also live in the desert with Joshua trees in a 10 acre ranch. I love Southern California. I build my own fence and chicken coop. Is not easy living in the desert but i learned a lot about nature and how to build stuff around my property and just be creative. Don't give up at the end it will be all worth it.

You did a lot in 1 year especially all by yourself. This is the first video I've seen of yours, but I've been watching people turn the desert into a homestead and it isn't easy, so well done! You might want to get a cat because ground squirrels can destroy your house and your food supply. We had a hug infestation of rodents until I moved in and let my cats outside. Now I can only hear them under the house once in a great while compared to every day multiple times a day. My cats ate almost all the rodents in this entire area.

I think you may not realize you may want the fence, it’s going to cut down all the dessert ending up in the house or beside the house. What may be a good idea would be going to one of those salvage yards that have a lot of great home improvement stuff at a discount price.

you should put the privacy fence back up in the back but much smaller and closer to the house. this will help with the wind and erosion/water evaporization control on future gardens. start catching any rain water you get off the roof. good job on the work. you did more than you gave yourself credit for.

Doing mostly alone is so rewarding, even if nobody notices. Celebrate the freedom you have OWNING land and a house. All my life I have worked for this goal. I have achieved them all. So worth it. You are doing great!! Your amazing and doing so much more than you realize. As my Dad taught me, Murphy’s second law is that if you need to do something you need to do something else first. It can make it feel like progress is not happening but thats mostly because we we don’t count all the “have to do first” things as progress. They are though! So yes, Celebrate! Celebrate all of it and give yourself credit! Happy dance under every rainbow and dance twice as much under the double ones. You deserve it😊

I just found your channel today and I have to say you are doing a great job. one step at a time. I lived in Twentynine Palms California for about 20 yrs and was paying a mortgage. It was my handicapped Mom who was in a wheel chair and me. The heating and cooling of our place was difficult I had learned you had to leave a window open 1 -2 inches to get a airflow through the place with a swamp cooler. other wise the house was like a vacuum seal lol also over my windows I made a 2x2 square frame with lattice on top, and placed it about a foot away from the window but over it to block the sun but would allow me to have my window open. which helped a lot on those 102 degrees days. I am on the east coast now but I still wonder if I should of stayed after losing my mom. I wish you all the best!

I often have to remind myself it’s only me and no one is judging and it’s not a race. Better to do it right, it will all pay off in time. What’s the point if I’m stressed and not enjoying my life? This is the first time we ‘meet’. 2024 is 10 days young and I sure hope you kept your promise to yourself. Getting stuck in only seeing the bad is a short way to a life one doesn’twish on anybody. With the little I know about you I’m sure you have plenty to be glad, proud and cheerful about. People on social media (and rl) are seldom honest about the reality of their life. Comparingyour life to someone else’s is like measuring yourself against a crooked measuring stick. Enjoy the journey even the things that go wrong are right if you look back at them. The only thing you can really do wrong is not having a good time even in the hard times.

If you are able to drill for a well, you could have your own little oasis in the middle of the desert and you could have live hedges/coppice as privacy fence and windshield, you could end up with an amazing garden in the middle of the desert but it would take time and patience.

PS keep the fence for a wind barricade as well To stop the soil erosion when you have flooding rains.
