Hey thanks a lot for the shout-out I really appreciate it, and also enjoyed the video a lot. I was actually planning to make a video like this in the future but at the moment I'm just trying to get some stuff done. Wow, thanks for watching! I was not expecting for you to come across this video. Not sure when I'll be working on another video with university starting this week, but I'll reach out if I need to! Thanks again.
@@telekinesticman Don't mention it, I'm always looking other videos to take inspiration from (be it big or small) and I happened to stumble upon this one and felt honored with the shout-out. Don't worry I know how college life is (after all I started my videos around that time) so if you ever need help just hit me up on Twitter or Discord
Kind of similar to me, to be honest! Before ever playing the core games, I thought that Samus was really cool in Brawl and enjoyed playing as her. After playing through all the games, it made me want to keep playing as her even more.
I think all I could ask for with Prime 4 is that we get more development for Samus as a character (disregarding everything Other M brought up) but doing so with as few words possible. I don't mind seeing new characters but I know that Metroid isn't ABOUT adding new characters, so as long as it's done for 100% good reason it's fine. I personally picture Samus as someone who can easily socialise with others outside her job but often goes alone when it comes to her profession. I wont be the first to admit I easily find her sexually attractive, but I do get mad when she's rendered useless outside her suit. Although Smash Bros doesn't do that, I do still feel bitter that Smash Bros still feels like they have to reference Other M when giving Samus a design for the game (not to mention rocket heels, really???). Like you said, I'm not looking for a game where Samus does nothing but her housework but I really do want to see a bigger window into her life as a bounty hunter and what makes her tick off the job. As for the game itself, I don't think I can say anything everyone else hasn't already mentioned. Atmospheric, tense and open for more exploration than ever before. You brought up an excellent point for giving Samus a combat feature akin to what Doom 2016 uses. It'd have to be nerfed considerably however because that system is all about making players face demons head-on while I don't think it'd be great for a game where Samus is supposedly exercising caution on a new planet but instead just ripped this alien a new one to keep her kill streak up. Perhaps a penalty for using combat on enemies you haven't analysed would be that some contain acidic blood or the like? That way you can't run around punching everything that moves otherwise you'd already be sacrificing around half your health. Would definitely love to see a sprint in the Prime games. It'd be especially thrilling in 1st person to use the power suit's back rockets to propel yourself across the ground, avoiding a fragile floor by millimetres or maybe using it to assist you in moving a large heavy object out of your path? There's the obvious breaking through walls but again, I feel that's something that requires the player to investigate some caution as to make sure there isn't a lava pool waiting on the other side or a bottomless pit. Anyway, before I write an essay on your own comments section, great video! I wish you the best with Uni and I hope you can come back to making more enjoyable content no matter what it is. Here's to a healthy and excellent redevelopment cycle for Metroif Prime 4!
I would just like to see Samus and Sylux be foil characters so both of them can develop as characters instead of just being defined by their appearance and abilities
the thing you said about super metroids controls does make me wonder how you would improve on them while still keeping what makes them great. zero mission and fusion are definitely easier to understand, but the momentum based controls of super metroid give you a lot more hidden options for exploration, raise the skill ceiling and make you feel even more powerful at the end of the game, when you can build up some speed and then just screw attack through everything
Great video! My favorites in the series are the first one & Super, although AM2R comes pretty close! BTW, don't feel bad that you do a salute at the end, I do the same!
As far as I'm concerned, I fell in love with the series for its atmosphere. Discovering vast new worlds, the sheer sense of exploration, the dreadful feeling of loneliness...which is why Metroid Prime 2 Echoes was always my favorite: planet Aether had the best atmosphere and visual identity, in my opinion. As such, I much prefer the Prime games to the 2D games, even though I enjoy all 2D Metroid Games, Fusion and Super being my favorites (Zero Mission is close 2nd, and Samus Returns is last but really, what does "last" mean for a series like Metroid?). The pure feeling of immersion in the Prime games is just mind-blowing, and I'm glad they even expanded the universe in Prime 3: it makes it feel more organic, more functionning. All in all, Metroid is my second favorite video game series of all time (1st is the Metal Gear Saga). I'm really looking forward to Prime 4, and I'm literally DYING to see a Prime Trilogy Remaster on Switch (although, given the fact that Nintendo is starting working on VR for the Switch, this could be a GREAT opportunity!!). Honestly, right now, the only way Nintendo can raise the hype even more for Prime 4, is if they announce the full title as: "Metroid Prime 4: Dread".
This series could totally work as an anime like That Time I Got Reincarnated As a Slime. Even a live-action web series if it stayed away from dialogue-heavy styles. I get excited thinking about it
I have no idea what that show is since I don't watch anime, but I agree that the games have potential as a series, or even a comic book! I think Ian Flynn, the writer of the Sonic comics, mentioned that he'd love to work on a Metroid book.
That is true, but compared to Super Metroid it's still not the same. Because of all of the hidden pathways outside of just the elevators in Super, and Samus's extreme speed and movement, you can get from Ridley's boss room back to Tourian in just a couple of minutes. I never felt that degree of flow in Prime, especially when doing the key hunt at the end of the game and having to backtrack across the entire map. It felt far more obnoxious and slow in Prime, whereas in Super it goes by incredibly quickly. That's just how I feel about it, but it's worth acknowledging I've played Super probably around 10 times at least, and Prime only twice.
I would love to see a metroid movie. If I had to choose one of the games to be turned into a movie I would probably choose fusion. Though I would love to see the Prime trilogy turned into a film as well
If you like metroid I highly recommend axiom verge. I know youre not the biggest fan of 8 bit indie stuff but axiom verge has genuinely become my favourite indie game and even favourite metroidvania. I know there's no shortage of indie metroidvanias but I try every big metroidvania and axiom verge has to be my favourite. I like it even more than hollow knight and the sequel is coming soon. Im rambling but its made by one guy and the narrative/world/exploration is soooo good.
I'll have to try it again some day. I had it on Epic Games Store for free and played it for a while and dropped it, was not enjoying it much. I think the art style was too bland and oppressive for me, but maybe I'd like it more if I started again.
@@telekinesticman I mean if you dont like it because of the look (which I personally loved) I do recommend atleast checking out the trailer for the sequel coming out in spring. @@telekinesticman Hmm.. Well to each their own! You're definitely making me wanna hop in on this genre and make my own critique of axiom verge. It's hard to put into words why I like it so much. Either way keep at it king I'm definitely gonna stick around to see more of your stuff!
You spoiled me, and pretty much made me have higher standards for Prime 4, you gave a lot of cool ideas to add to the gameplay >.< But deep down, all i want is play another Metroid game in the end.
Stellar analysis man. I agree with 90% of everything you've said. Our opinions differ when it comes to our favorites in the series, and that comes down to game type preferences. My top 2 are Prime then Super, simply because of the raging nostalgia from when I was 11 and got Prime after playing the shit out of Super to where now, 23 years later, my cartridge doesn't hold a save file and hasn't for about 8 years lmao. It's one of those things you had to experience as it was coming out, seeing Samus in that shining glory as she jumped off the ship, the beam effects, the arm cannon in 3D, and so much more crap, and as a relatively newer fan you've still got it down to a T what makes Metroid so damn good. In my opinion, Nintendo doesn't know what makes a good 2D metroid. I have an intense dislike for Sakamoto for butchering Samus in Other M, and not just the character herself, but the things she does, and turning the game into something of an anime. That's my take on it, but Other M can be experienced as a bunch of cutscenes on RUclips and does not need to be played. Again, great work man, hope to see more.
Thank you! I definitely want to do more content about the series in future, but right now I'm still busy with university. I graduate at the end of the year so hopefully I can make videos more often after that!
the greatest problem with the voice for samus thing, they dont know what part of samus is the beloved part and where they need to add with voice acting. the best voice acting she got is funny, in smash bors as zero suit. she speaks short, and strong. but other m fucked that very bad and i fear they wont let her talk anymore. if they just let her note on things, say small things add some notes of thought. thats all we need and by note of thought i dont mean a fking monologe she did over small ridley.. i mean her saying when you are in a moment of nothing or movement between poins, like god of wars lake storys. maybe when you are in the ship or something, where she maybe has a visitor on her ship like somebody who is in the ship and she speaks over orders of the federation or stuff. short. maybe a , they dont know how bad this will go, they should just leave it alone blabla. something like that, hell let it happen after god damn fusion and have the robot adam be that person, let her talk the the AI and let her be annoyed at shit. or even fking betetr let the AI try to be human, pull a cortana / master chief. let her just make some small notes like kratos and the AI says something. What an awesome video explaining so many reasons why I love Metroid! I can't wait for Prime 4! An HD PRIME GAME? It's going to be epic.
Metroid is art in its purest form, the environments always looked to me like a wonderful piece of artwork.
I mained Samus in smash because she looked cool, played through Metroid Prime because I mained her in Smash. I now main her because I love Metroid.

Same here,I haven't actually played any Metroid game but I'm getting a GBA soon so I'm definitely getting Fusion + Zero Mission
Familiar story (my story)
I love the Prime trilogy over the 2D (but love both), but that said, I agree that we should have a more maneuverable Samus in them.
Talks about how Samus should be shown when she's out of her suit.
*Ah, I see you're a man of culture as well.*
I laughed harder than I should have at this, because it's so true.
I *did* clarify that I didn't mean that in a sexual way, buuuut I won't deny that it sounds funny.
Oh, I know, I was laughing at his comment. Because I've been known to get into lengthy discussions about the exact same thing.
