The song is basically about surrendering to a nice time; saying "Good time kill me; good time, why are you killing me?" (Monate mpolaye, monate umpolay'lang?). It straddles gqom, house and kwaito. Thebe is a huge kwaito legend and that's probably what gives it that flavour that you guys are not used to. You might want to listen to Thebe's old stuff to get more of that flavour.
The beat is purely an Amapiano beat. Amapiano is basically a Pretoria style of house music

His performance of Monate Mploaye at Global Citizen was the best performance of the evening. The crowd went absolutely mental.
I couldn't help but notice that little play button on the right. . . congratulations guys
I must note though, a huge part of what makes this song great is the references all over the song. I had to have someone fully translate the song to understand why people love this so much and now I can't get over it. There's literally a part where Vettis asks our Police Commissioner to not arrest him LOL. Then Thebe says "I was gonna give it to you but you talk too much" in the funniest way ever! I'm even trying to learn Tswana/Pretorian properly now. And I'm discovering the most hilarious songs. There's a song where the chorus is just some guy saying he'll "give you a child, a baby boy!!" Insane!

The genre is called Kwaito which is a distictly South African sound which originated in the 90s. Cassper's latest album is inspired by the Kwaito sound which you find in the hood, which we call Kasi or Loxion. It is a township sound.
I was at Global Citizen and I can definitely agree that Cassper had the best performance. His energy was unmatched. You guys should’ve reacted to his performance of this song, it was maaaddd!!

Hey guys, this stadium had close to 100 000 people in it that night. The 68 000 was was for Cassper’s own performance a few months before Global citizen. I am estimating the 100 000 because FNB stadium takes up 90 000 people when sitting and the other thousands will be on the grounds.
