I don't do reviews often, but thought itd be nice as the game started off pretty shaky in terms of user opinion. TLDR at bottom. If you want my honest opinions about the game. I thought I'd share them here. The game definitely has some promise, but there are some issues I found that you should consider before dropping 20 bucks. I enjoyed the game quite a bit actually, but my opinions are always going to be my own. To start off, the game isn't zomboid and shouldn't be compared to zomboid. The only similarity between the two is the zombies and point of view. Zomboid is a gritty realistic survival sim honed after years of development. Dread dawn plays as a more fast paced tower defense + game. Please don't compare the games as you will only be left with disappointment. It reminds me of an open world boxhead instead. At the time of recording, I don't think the game deserves the rating it has as it was mostly negative at the time. Its pretty rough on the edges, but I had quite a bit of fun messing around with the game. The combat and zombie killing is engaging, especially when you have a full group and good amounts of ammo. It's satisfying to blow up entire hordes with mortar rounds or turrets. The special infected keep you on your toes if the hordes wont. It's pretty difficult to survive early games, which is something I enjoy. The map and looting is actually really nice. The in game map is huge, and with the zombie count you really feel like it's a city with a realistic population. Coming across survivor camps as well is pretty nice though I do wish they were a bit less common to find. It takes away from the game when you can just walk a few blocks to a fully fortified block of survivors that can clear hordes pretty easy. The base building is simple, but I think that's a good thing for a base defense style game. You have traps, turrets and basic barricades. Giving you more than enough to design a layout that will stop waves. You can also recruit and set npcs to guard areas acting like more barriers as well. I think you can get pretty complex with the system. It reminds me of don't starve in that regard. Thats about all i could experience so far. So I have no idea how item and resource management will work in the late game. I see nothing wrong with the graphics. They do their job and the game sets ambience with lighting really well!! Big fan of the lighting and mapwork. One problem I've had is definitely the audio mixing and settings. Some sounds are extremely loud compared to others, and because there's only one audio setting. I had to edit some sounds way down in post. I really wish the settings and game explained more in its menus. I have no idea what difficulty does to the game. I wish there were more settings to tailor the game to the individual's needs. I don't know if hordes continue to ramp up with every passing week or what to look out for in the game cycle. The game does have a story and basic tutorial, but I feel like it's one of the more rushed aspects. For the first hour you are locked to the story which is the weakest aspect in my opinion. It just wants you to go from point A to point B ad nauseam. I quickly lost interest in recording it and switched to survival instead after 3 hours of playing that. There's also the controversy that the game might be a scam or it being hidden malware. The malware one is inane as steam has its own verification and virus scanning before the game can even go on market. I also checked it with windows security and bitdefender. No red flags. The game is pretty large at 30 gigs. I found the cause of the size being the map textures. My guess is unoptimized textures. Nothing wrong there, but it is insane that the map alone accounts for 85 percent of the game. The scam one i'm not too sure on. The game is exists and is pretty fun, and hotfixes are being dropped quickly. So if it's something you do worry about. I say avoid it if the game isn't what you would enjoy in a more polished format. That's about everything I could think of. Hope this helps you decide whether you want to get the game yourself. If the game polishes a bit more and opens better support it would be a strong recommendation from me. For now I suggest really looking into the game to see if you would actually enjoy what it has to offer. Oh one last thing, I found the environmental hazards to be extremally cool. The idea of clearing out fires using fire hoses and making traps using exposed conduits feels really nice. The occasional airstrikes and survivors also add in a level of chaotic and alive unlike other zombie titles. Watching a survivor get run down by a horde and slipping by the chaos was a real standout for me at least.

could have homes with destroyed flooring, which zombies would fall through to try and get to ya. It also adds difficulty to explore such buildings due to the bad floors

However,the main story mode of Dread Dawn is kind of terrible. XD I remember the demo of the first hour or two of the story and it was terrible. Unlikeable characters who didn't act human or make any even somewhat sensible situations. Was bizarre.

Not my cup of tea. has a degree of mechanical and NPC jank that would keep me from getting immersed. Now if you want to try something CRAZY you should use the NPC mod on Zomboid with extreme spawnrates for NPCs, spawn in at Louisville, deal with Sprinters; and THAT would make for a more heartpounding challenge in a city.
🤔 if you can make bases, then can make traps, make a noise trap, then collect them in a pit, then BBQ 🔥 to just make sure... Of if can make a mechanical machine to process them... Like Minecraft... Is it possible to dig and move soil etc?
