If you buy a used pc (or parts), NOT an office pc, either a junk pc or the most high end for the money, in the future something from all of this, it will stay. Case, graphics, PSU, cooling system, storage.... And if at any time, you decide to make a big upgrade to CPU, Mobo and GPU, the old ones can make, very easy, a nice home server. Something which with the office PCs, isn't always the case since, in my example, with just the Mobo (+cpu, ram) I had to buy power adaptor. And this also creates the problem that if the psu ever goes bad, you'll maybe have to search for a very specific replacement. Beside all of this, yeah... I agree. Lol I actually did that same upgrade from i5-2500K to i5-6700K… about EIGHT YEARS AGO! That said, I haven’t built a new gaming PC since and I can still play almost any game on reasonable settings
Same. I’ve got an i7 6700k+RX6600XT and an i5 6500+1050ti and both towers still do pretty much what I want from them. I wouldn’t upgrade TO a 6th gen, but I’m feeling no pressure yet to upgrade from one.
I ended up with a 6700k because I got an LGA1151 motherboard for 5 bucks (it had bent pins that I needed to bend back into place with tweezers, and half the ram slots don't work, but it was 5 bucks!) but unfortunately it's a z170 chipset so 6th gen is the highest I can go (I've seen mixed information on whether 7th gen works with 100-series chipsets, and didn't want to risk wasting a bunch of money buying a 7700k when I'd already found a good deal on a 6700k) so TL;DR is if you're looking for something with that socket, get a z270 or 370 (I forget if 470 is a thing that exists) so you can upgrade your 6th gen CPU to a 9th gen later. anyway the 6700k, paired with a GTX 970 I also got for super cheap, honestly works fine for the kinds of games I play, I wouldn't expect it to run any modern AAA games though...

No don’t be buying multiple parts for an old system like that. Save and build something new. You will likely have a bad time with not even having the right connectors on power supply. At that point each upgrade leads to you needing another part which adds up even more and by that time you could have just upgraded to a newer platform, hell even an x99 with a Xeon is cheap and good for the money. I currently daily an x99 build i put together at the beginning of the year. I have a couple AM4 builds, but theres just something about reviving older tech and using it after its been abandoned by most. I also just bought a 12 year old laptop that I'm spending way too much money on. I just always wanted a lenovo t440p, with dedicated GPU, though. I even found a brand new OEM dock for it! I wouldnt recommend doing this for people just getting into computers and laptops, but I'm addicted to it. I have dozens of PCs and laptops, the vast majority are around a decade old, with one PC thats 2 decades old.

We started a build for my girlfriend using an old dell. IMO the cpu wasn’t too bad was an i5 4690 had no gpu and just added ram for a bit just getting a gpu was buying and exchanging for something that was $200 more than the one so eventually could work way up for an rtx card. We got to 4070 super and upgraded to an am4 5600 cpu and b450m motherboard. Some guy at the micro center was saying I shouldn’t get that cpu for that motherboard but it worked so it’s good I think. Minimum upgrade today should be 8th gen intel or am4. I have 6700 intel and there are more and more games that just won't run on it or run poorly on it. I built me a 5600x system and it's so much better. But I still keep the 6700 intel for older titles.
I’ve got a big problem my pc I have a 1060 3gb graphics card but recently got a rx 580 but it does not work on my pc and it’s just has a black screen without any signal what do I do
I want to build a pc for dad for his office and I have no idea which to choose with. He doesn't want a very powerful pc it's just for docs and entertainment maybe like i3 or ryzen 3 built without a GPU because it's not a gaming rig but an office pc.
Eh, the oem business desktops aren't always the best idea. I once got one with a proprietary mobo and a psu, which could not be upgraded to a different, atx one, while the psu didn't have the 6-pin needed for the gpu, so I couldn't use the graphics card in it, at all.

Hey I have a question im about to upgrade my intel i5 10400 to a i5 12600k first of all is this a worth upgrade for $174 or should I go for something new/better? Bs I am gonna pair the i5 12600k with a rx 6700 xt 12gb
I don't think is worth the upgrade, it's like a 10-15% faster, and is not cheap. Idk if you like amd but the r5 7600 is like 10 or 20 bucks more and is 30-35% faster. Intel is not doing so good in ther newer generations.
@@adrian1881mw3 bro thank you cuz like my pc right now is sooo slow and I just need some upgrade so I probably will do the r5 7600
Well 😂 i bought a new 300w power supply, cpu cooler, motherboard, graphics card and a gaming pc case for my optiplex 990 and damn it runs like a beast
Not old. Just period accurate
Oh this is my server's cpu (i5 2500k)
I have a i5 2400 and a core 2 quad q9500 in my servers
A friend gave me his spare GTX 970 and i have a GT 1030. My specs are as follows:
B450-M PRO-VDH Max
AMD Ryzen 5 1600
Nvidia Geforce GT 1030
Aresgame 650W bronze PSU
16GB RAM
1TB SSD.
Would my PC be able to run this huge upgrade from a 2GB GDDR4 card into a 4GB GDDR5 card?
I have a i7 6700k and it was good for the past 8 years, but I rather upgrade to a cheap am4 ryzen build...
should buy the io plat can remove pc, also the ping's need to be international version, so you can use the official factory pc to customize pc frame 😂
I have a i9-7960x and wondering what gpu should i upgrade from 1070
So many of these kinds of questions and nobody mentions their budget which is what any answer depends on
@@MrFuzziiWuzzii anything that the cpu will handle without bottlenecks but not spending extra on new motherboard/cpu/ram
too old? lol *laughs in linux*
What graphics card do you recommend for Windows 98. With 512 mb of ram.
Gt 210lp
Nah I'd get a optiplex with a 12700t or smth and pair a low profile card. prob can use it for at least 7 years then it might bottleneck new gpus.
Can you buy 12700t for 50!bucks?
Can you buy 12700t for 50 bucks?
I was wondering what should I upgrade first my CPU (R5 3500) or my GPU(1660super) .
I have a prebuilt pc and it feels slow can you confirm if I am bad at using it or if I have bad parts ryzen 5 5600g, Rx 5500, 8gb ddr4
I7 6700k & i5 8400 same performance lol.. but I don’t recommend upgrading to this processor go for a 9th Gen or up
I currently daily an x99 build i put together at the beginning of the year.
Same 😂
Currently running an i7 6850k
Hi.I would like to ask what is the best cpu for Ryzen5 7600 with 100-$150 budget😅.
Do I NEED to buy a cpu cooler if there’s one in the box? Is the stock one even good?
😂 I'm still rocking an i7-6700k, RX 580 with an MSI 270i Mobo, 32GB and about 2TB spread across an SSD and Nvme. Installed a Linux gaming distro.
It runs pretty decent.
I do have a newer laptop too that I daily drive, but If you have some older HW, throw a Linux gaming distro on there. Linux will run more efficiently than bloated Windows and you can still play the vast majority of games.
Would love to see Linux gaming machines on this channel Zach!
So how many generations should the max gap be if 8 generations are too old ?
He may just have the cpu already. A cheap lga 1151 mb is $30 on eBay. Then buy a good set of 16gb 3200mhz for $30.
However it’s not a good idea to plan on building a pc with a 6700k. Always start with am4
Hi @ZachsTechTurf
Should i upgrade from 5600x to 5700x3d for warzone intensive player to get the benefits from 3d cashe technology
I have already rtx 3070 please help me ???
A bit back I upgraded from a 2060 to 4070 ti.
CPU is a 9700k. Pc-builds says I have about a 24.6% bottleneck. What upgrade path do you recommend? (3440x 1440)
Hi Zach!
I was recently resetting my pc and didn’t have a recovery drive and an error occured and now my pc doesn’t have windows but my brother had a windows installation on a pendrive thankfully and when I used it,It didn’t show my SSD as a drive to install the windows
My SSD is a Western Digital SN530 NvME
Any solutions
Just got a ryzen 9 7900x3d for a deal but now I am confused with which motherboard to go with. Should I put out budget at around 400 or is 300 sufficient. The currency is cad.
Edit:
Planning to go for a 7900 xt or the xtx and a 1440p monitor
What upgrade path would you recommend from am AMD k6-2 and a 12 mb voodoo 2
We started a build for my girlfriend using an old dell. IMO the cpu wasn’t too bad was an i5 4690 had no gpu and just added ram for a bit just getting a gpu was buying and exchanging for something that was $200 more than the one so eventually could work way up for an rtx card. We got to 4070 super and upgraded to an am4 5600 cpu and b450m motherboard. Some guy at the micro center was saying I shouldn’t get that cpu for that motherboard but it worked so it’s good I think. Better than the dell it was before
Bro is mostly from Egypt because we still use oem with the 6th gen intel and pay around 167 us dollars and they are overpriced as fuck and to find a good 2nd gen ryzen processor it is like finding a good xeon process (witch is also rare as fuck too)

"you don't want to invest your money on a custom gaming PC that's 8 generations old."
Me who has a PC with a total of $20 put into it with a Intel Core 2 Duo. (I use it for Windows XP gaming, I do have a modern Oc tor everything else)
My mom chillin with intel celeron n2840 (her Toshiba Laptop)

Did you have any troubleshooting your new pcs if so tell us how to fix it please 🥺
Who has i5 12400f and RTX 3060 😊
I have i7 14700kf and rtx 4070ti
zach when people live in 3rd world countries or need legacy OS support:
If you go old, go I7. very cheap, and free if you can.
It was a satisfying build in my case with an I7 860, but listen to zach: don't waste money if you can afford something newer for a paying a little more.
i got a thinkstation P520 with Xeon W-2135 for $200 lol stuck my rx7600xt in it paid a total of 600 lol im set for a good while with 64gb ddr4 lol

hey dude i really hope you see this, can you suggest a pc no gpu and no psu, both are supported by my dad with a corsair 650w and 3070 rtx, budget of 600$ amd really want a 240hz monitor with it
I am just starting to build pc should i get i7 6900k and gtx 1080ti or ryzen 5 3600 and gtx 1080ti i want to build a pc used and after using it for some time i am gonna sell it...
Bro we all ain't rich like you just tell the motherboard
yeah, the guy could also already have the cpu and be asking for a mobo
You spent more on that and the cpu than the oem pc's together
he literally gave the guy a cheaper alternative what are you talking about
@@simptaro what if he had already bought that cpu?
If you are THAT BROKE then I don't think you need to worry about putting together a new pc 💀
Zach, Please help should i go for rtx 4070 ti super or rtx 4070 super or rtx 4070 for both productivity and gaming

I have an intel 15 12400f with a b660 motherboard should I buy a new motherboard to upgrade my cpu?
How about i5 14th gen and rtx 4070
Or i5 14th gen with 2nd hand rtx 3080 ti
Please tell if amd cpu is a good option😊
Eh, the oem business desktops aren't always the best idea. I once got one with a proprietary mobo and a psu, which could not be upgraded to a different, atx one, while the psu didn't have the 6-pin needed for the gpu, so I couldn't use the graphics card in it, at all.
I just got a hp prodesk 600 G2, i7-6700 16gb ddr4 , 512 ssd. I found a cheap T1000 gpu 4gb.
Its perfect to me.
I'm building a pc any suggestions from you guys I'm going with i3 12100f and rx6600.

Bro's upgrading from a 15 year old CPU to a 10 year old CPU.
At that point just buy a Chromebook
Nice, wish I found you before I jumped into the pc building craze that inflated my $300 budget to an ungodly amount 😅😂
Which is better a rx7900xtx or the 4080 super
7900xtx for rasterization means more fps.
4080 super for Rtx, dlss, overall productivity, ml.
