I wish banana plugs had been used instead of naked stripped wires at the speakers. In my experience, banana plugs provide a reliable connection while also being convenient. Striped wires have a smaller area of contact. When trying to wire speaker wires into the rear of a receiver in a cabinet or other tight place, banana plugs allow you to connect the bare wire out in the open and then plug it into the right post. This also prevents wayward strands from cross-terminating and overloading the apparatus. Additionally, the gold plating on the plugs provides corrosion protection. Corrosion (oxidation) can hamper signal passage and harm your equipment's terminals. So, banana plugs provide convenience, safety, and equipment protection. Copper conducts electricity more efficiently than gold, but it is far more prone to corrosion.
You make some excellent points about the advantages of banana plugs! They indeed provide a reliable and convenient connection, especially in tight spaces, while minimizing the risk of stray strands causing shorts. You can also buy a Prevail sprayer for around $10 bucks. A little bit of water and paint in there and you have a sprayer.
