New bikes might have slippery tires because the tire factory mould has a chemical coating to help release the tire. If you pull away with strong throttle in the first 200 miles, 300km, the tire might spin causing a small accident.
Happened to me on a new Honda Fireblade many years ago. Pulled away with fun throttle and the rear spun up, bike lay down. Little bit of plastic scratched. I was lucky.

I have a CBR 300R and I don't plan to sell it. It's my first bike, and I've had it for 2 years now. I am in love with it. I don't need anything faster. I have stainless brake lines and upgraded pads. I don't want a $500+ exhaust because I don't want to piss people off and not only that but it's embarrassing to be loud AND slow. It's one thing to be FAST and loud, but when it takes redline shifts and 6.5 seconds to 60 mph, it's sad. Plus a stock pipe won't make cops want to pull you over. By the way, the 500R is much heavier than a 300R, like 70 lbs. 300R would kill a 500R or even 600-1000rr in twisties. I couldn't care less about doing 100 mph on the street. I like having my license.

I would add that it’s important to match your bike to your environment. I used to live outside of Ottawa. Lots of terrific, hilly twisties, but lots of gravel and broken pavement as well (Canadian winters). I could run away and hide from supersports on my KLR650, because I could hit cross-grain ruts at full lean without breaking traction. They’d blow past me on the next long straight, but I would just reel them in, over and over again.

I agree with all of your points! I started on a CBR250R and rode the heck out of it for 3 months before I bought my CBR1000RR. I definitely recommend the CBR500 as a legit starter bike. Thanks for another great review! #bikesandbeards

Agree with you 100%. Honda's 500 class is great as an entry, and honestly, I used to have one (CB500F - the naked one) as a secondary bike for when I didn't feel like taking the V-Rod out. Still a fun machine... but definitely nowhere near a 600 supersport.

I love the standard position of the CB500F, can I put handle bars from a CB500F on a CBR500R? Can I make a 500R a 500F just by doing that? (position only) I know the gearing differences etc. I live in a windy place and I'm thinking the fearing and the looks, I love the 500R looks over just a standard F. Does Honda answer these questions? I'll buy a 500R tomorrow if I can confirm this ;)

It's in the same class as the Ninja 400 in terms of weight and power basically. That cc number is confusing because it's so close to a 600, but it makes about half the power as a 600 does. People are really looking at this bike in the wrong way simply because of it's displacement.

Well that’s why you made a video on a 2013 Honda CBR 600, if you made one from 2002 to 2007 you would be way more happier.

I started two years ago on a 1994 Honda CBR 600 F2. I was given the choice between the F2 or a 2002 F4i. The reason I went for the old lady was ergonomics and less twitchy throttle. I got my license at 28 last year and I have never dropped it. It can be a decent beginner bike, but I don't recommend it unless you are 25+ and know your own limits. If you are some 18-year-old who just wants to go fast - start with something less than 500cc unless you have a death wish.

If you were in the market for this bike, consider what you get for the Kawi 650. Supersports are a completely different class, there's no reason to even add them to the comparison.

Well I have a wee 50cc scooter and looking at getting into some real power. I ride around very bendy roads to work which is a bit of fun But I want the power to go on the open road and for 4 hr trips to the next city. Can't decide on the 300f or 500f (the R sports riding position wouldn't be the best for longer trips).... Any suggestions?

500f, you'll have to push the 300 hard on that 4hr trip

Thanks for the vid..i have a question..i found a honda cbr 500rr on craigslist.. the person asking 4500..2013 low miles. What's the difference between the 500r and 500rr or did the person make a mistake when he listed it.. I'm sorry i don't know alot about sports bikes but I'm trying to learn as I'm in the market to buy one and i want one i don't kill myself on. I currently ride a honda 750 spirit and it is my first bike. I wanting to move up to a sports bike and am looking for good acceleration but not needing to go 180 mph lol. Also are there any weight ratings for these bikes for us plus size folks haha..

Ain't no such animal as a RR. Certainly not in Europe. The reason is that it was specifically designed to fit Europe's A2 category (35Kw limit). There is nowhere to go with the engine. You could alter the geometry to make it more aggressive but I can't find a mention of it. Besides, there is no racing category for 500cc, so its as relevant as a desert penguin.

My issue with the Honda 500 platform is how heavy it is. They are at least 30 lbs overweight. Otherwise, nice bikes. I would probably prefer the 500X since at least you gain a little adventure capability with that weight.

I feel like the sweet spot for a street sport bike is 250-400. I like revving the bike out and 600s can get to 70 in second gear which is fun but fun is kinda over quick unless i want to go to jail.

Can you let go of the throttle while in gear the way he does a few times when he takes both hands off the bike? I thought that stalls the bike out or is that only when your not already riding at a certain speed.

    • @Long-nd8bq

It's like letting off the gas in a car. Engine braking will slow it down and it will carry on at idle in whatever gear you are in so it will be a low speed. It may bog the bike down trying to speed back up though if you don't downshift.

l this was my first bike l had it for two years and l love it its so much better than a 250 way more grunt with better capabilities and its reliable. l have raced a 250 and won and then again but l had a pillion and still won easy, l have cruised with other bikers 250/300 and they have to go through the gears so much more than l do and it sounds like they are thrashing it to get up to speed where as the 500 you can give gas and get up to speed and not ring its neck. 100% recommend the 500 over the 250 any day

I agree with you completely, a ninja 400 or cbr 500 are better in my opinion than a 300 for beginners. You would be able to pick up a used 500 for cheap too.

@@ws8080 I think the market is just high right now. You could also probably find a cheap 650. But unless you know what you're doing, go for fuel injection over carbs.

idk man, the 300 and 500 hardly have a power difference, I've owned a 500 and rode my buddy's 300 quite a bit. I'm not much of a fan of either, however, great beginner bikes. Once I got my 600f4i I could never go back to the 500.

Im looking at an 18' CBR 500R with around 3k miles. It does have some signs of oil leakage on lower left side and the throttle feels a bit loose. Are these big concerns? The price is good so i'm leaning towards buying it. Would love it if someone could chime in within the next day or so before I purchase.
