Wilzig: "Will you still want the same things when you have become a different creature all together?" By the end of the season, this is true of Lucy and Maximus.

It is also true of Cooper in a way. He spent hundreds of years looking for his family but he had resigned himself to the fact that he will never find them and has instead transformed into someone focused on survival and temporary pleasures. His interaction with Lucy made him aware of how much he changed and that he did not like it at all.

My favourite reactions to the show by far, good to have you back!
The beauty of the writing of this show is that the 3 main protagonists set out with a plan in episode 1 & get exactly what they wanted by the ending... and none of them are really happy about it.
Lucy finds her dad, but he wasn't the guy who she thought it was. Max becomes the respected hero of the BOS, but now just wants out. It was never really explained what coop's plan was, but we find out hes spent 200 years looking for a member of vault tec to ask about his family.... who can surely be frozen in 31 if they're still to be found.
    Amazing show!

My take is that it has something to do with the Enclave, which also seems to have had some cryo stuff going on. Otherwise, how would Wilzig know her and she him? Or something with Vault-tech, because they both also made comments which seemed to indicate they might have deep connections to Vault-tech. Moldaver's comments about knowing Barb and Vault-tech buying her companies (plural). And Wilzig's comments to Lucy about Vault-tech plan D and being "surprised it wasn't more popular."

Small quibble: The Peter Principle is not "failing upward", it's the idea that in any hierarchical organization where promotion is based on merit, if you are good at your job then you will inevitably keep being promoted until they promote you into a job position that you're bad at, at which point you will stop earning new promotions and will be stuck in that job. It's called being "promoted to your level of incompetence", and it's one of the main reasons why bureaucracies (corporate or governmental) tend to suck at what they do.

1st: I LUVED this show, even though I've never played the game. It was well written, directed acted, special effects....everything was great.
But I have 2 plot issues. 1st Norm seems ready to go ahead and get in a pod. But that doesn't seem like his only option. He could threaten to open all the pods and then also destroy Bud's brain on a Roomba. What is Bud going to do to stop him? Stick him with a needle? Good Luck.
2nd issue is Vault Tecs logic. They plan to wipe the earth clean? I don't think a full scale nuclear war would destroy every human. Too many of us. It would mean the loss of billions, but not everyone. And the remainder would indeed create more factions. It's what we humans do.
That brings me to my final point. I know that some people are just straight up evil. However, a full scale nuclear would destroy much of the earth, leaving a wasteland for thousands upon thousands of years. Is Vault Tec so evil that they'd destroy the playground because they can't be in full control of it? 😮😮😮

I think if they stick with just these three pov characters (though Thaddeus is out there too and I kind of figure he might hook up with Coop and Lucy, the show likes to keep its sense of humor and they likely want a mainly comedic actor as one of the regulars) and the locations will just be LA for Max and Norm and the desert for the pair chasing Hank and how much they will feature New Vegas. They don't want to spoil the game for those catching up, but they also were very clear that this show takes place like twenty five years after the New Vegas game. And also to cover that now very interesting time in the past between Coop meeting Hank and the bombs falling. That Janey was with Coop when the bombs fell is actually the main evidence that while Vault Tec intended to drop the bombs, someone else did it first. Which makes sense with House's theory too. And if Bud was the main face of Vault Tec, well, he is super annoying.

I'm trying Fallout 76 at the moment and the feeling I get that it's how Elderscrolls Online is to Skyrim. A bit diluted compared to the single-player games and it being online makes it less responsive.
I tried to unsuccessfully replay Fallout 3 before that, but I just couldn't get it to launch, even after trying like 30 different online suggestions for solutions. Hopefully it works for most people, but it doesn't seem to love modern computers. Perhaps it's our modern multi-core CPUs or a temporary bug with the graphics drivers or some 3rd thing that ½ a day of trouble-shooting to get it working, didn't tell me.

What's been bugging me for a while now is this:
If the Overseer Hank destroyed Shady Sands with a nuke, does this mean that each Vault (or at least some Vaults) has to have a secret nuclear arsenal?
And the nuke that made the Shady Sands crater (shithole?) would have to be detonated underground, much like the Sedan crater in Nevada. There were cars near the lip of the crater when Lucy and Max were there, which meant that it wasn't an airburst or a surface detonation.
Edit: 11:40 I doubt this attack on the Observatory destroyed the NCR. This might be just one of the regions of the NCR since, iirc, the NCR's territory post-NV goes up as far north almost into Oregon, east into the Hoover Dam area in Nevada, and south into Baja.

    • @davidmacy411
      @davidmacy411 6 месяцев назад

Every vault most certainly doesnt have an arsenal. It would have to be only the most trusted and secure vaults. Its also possible the NCR put some gigantic nuclear power source underground that got sabotaged by VT agents to destroy the city.

    • @alcor4670
      @alcor4670 6 месяцев назад

@@davidmacy411 I was going to do some more research into yields and power plant outputs, but there's a chance that that might set off an alert somewhere lol.
In any case, afaik Shady Sands didn't have a nuclear plant in F1, but they might have set up one later on. Powering a medium-sized town though wouldn't need a lot of energy (and certainly would not create a crater that size if it went critical). Chernobyl's output was designed to produce energy for a *much* larger region, but the explosion was very small in comparison to the WW2 nukes.
In any case, a crater the size of Sedan (~100 kt, or 10 times the size of Hiroshima and Nagasaki) would require the energy of roughly 729 million Corvega engines, or hundreds of Vault power plants. Fuel for power plants is far less energy-dense than the material used for weapons, which is why it's highly unlikely that the crater was a sabotaged plant.
So yeah, Shady Sands was most likely destroyed by a weapon. Where that weapon came from, well...

Hey there Neil! Its nice to have you back! Ive been enjoying your reactions since Avatar. I am guessing we are about the same age and both olde schoole fallout fans, which I am finding is fairly rare in reaction-land.
As a fellow older generation guy, I would encourage you to be more attentive to peoples' pronouns. The character of Dain was repeatedly referred to as They, and was clearly coded as nonbinary in their depiction. Calling them Her is not accurate and considered misgendering.
Now, through your videos, I feel I've gotten to know you well enough as a person to know that you wouldn't do that intentionally. Its an easy trap for those of us who weren't raised with this kind of awareness to fall into. I just thought I might respectfully bring this to your attention.
    Keep up the good work!

So many reactors say in 1x07, 'How can they possibly wrap things up in one episode?' Well this is how they make a perfect finale :D
Not sure if you watched with subtitles.... but Bud's Brain in a jar is described hilariously as 'Brain-on-a-Romba'
As far as bringing people to the games, sales have gone through the roof. I personally bought 1,2 and New Vegas, and have logged a ridiculous amount of time in New Vegas....(found Fallout 1's UI painful, so gave up on it for now) I had played alot of Fallout Shelter, so I was familiar with alot of the lore though.
As far as Moldaver, if Vaultec bought out all her companies, it can be assumed that she was still fairly wealthy, and knowing that Vaultec were war mongering and dangerous, that she might have taken precautions to survive the nuclear holocaust.

There’s a mod that lets you play through Fallout 1 in the Fallout 2 engine along with a lot of community fixes and tweaks, so it smooths over some of the interface issues. It’s pretty easy to install, worth a look.

@@RocketSurgn_ Thanks for the heads up.... I want to play the game for the sake of learning the lore, and experiencing the stories etc. Just the controls were very awkward and not intuitive in Fallout 1 imo. I don't mind older graphics etc, some of my favourite games still to play have ancient graphics, but they have good game play though.
      Once again thanks.

I've played all the games (yes, including 1, 2 and 76), and the show is incredibly true to the world built in Fallout. New Vegas homers ree-ing about "lore accuracy" (as if they are the experts) aside, the show absolutely nailed the tone and feel of the Fallout world. It's going to be along two-year wait.

To my knowledge we never learn, in the games, who dropped the bombs. So to have that revealed in the show, was great!
Fallout 76 has had years of additional content. While Multiplayer in the grand scheme of things, and if you enjoy the genre of mmo’s mixed with Bethesda RPG you would enjoy it if you gave it a chance. It can be mostly played as a single person experience. This sounds weird because you’ll see other players around you, and certain events will be multiplayer focused. The main story I found to be compelling enough, and the stories they’ve added on since only built on that. One of the first group of Vault Dwellers leaving a Vault to see what happened with the world. When it launched the story was told mostly through taped and computer logs. Since then they’ve added characters. Moral of the side note is Fallout 76 is worth playing.

In the games, you get contradictory info that it was started by China or that the Enclave planned to start it (and outside, devs have made comments that it was China I think but that’s not particularly considered cannon). My personal read of the episode is that they didn’t reveal it “was” VaultTec here, just that they would have done it if needed. As a comparison, it’s suggested in Fallout 2 that the Enclave had plans to start things (and were already manipulating things toward conflict instead of peace) but were caught off guard by the escalation to nuclear launches happening before they had expected. A lot of their people were scattered and caught outside bunkers, kindof like being shown the daughter of a senior Vault Tec exec caught outside vaults at a birthday party with her dad in the show. I think it makes the most sense that we were just shown someone else willing to cause the war but never really know who pushed the button first. Who knows though, they may have decided to say VT really did it themselves and just didn’t bother to get everyone into vaults first.

@@RocketSurgn_ I agree. The show implies that Vault-tech dropped the bombs in 2077, but it may have been a red herring. Barb's daughter was out in the world with Coop when the bombs dropped. Would she risk her own daughter, after making clear everything she was doing was for family?

It seems like the number 1 thing to come out of this show is an army of people shitting on New Vegas fans.
Objectively the best game in the franchise, but if you liked New Vegas, well then, you're an asshole.

So if Shady Sands got nuked, who ever hid Max in the fridge knew about the bomb? Or was it nuclear reactor of sort out of control meltdown?
People say: "Indiana Jones", and get distracted, forgetting that he hid and had time to hide only cause he knew..
Other version is: crater was from Great War (we saw one hitting in approx area, and 2nd crater is nowhere to be seen), explosions were conventional, connected to BoS being there.. 🤷

I would say that this show has next to no redeeming qualities, just in terms of character decisions. character rationalities, and events happening, it just falls apart completely.
