Great video and work. I always use a "food safe stain etc..." when making any product that may come in contact with food or used in thw kitchen. Makes me feel better and keeps people or kids safe who may use it in a manner other than its designed purpose. Keep yp the great work and videos

To all butthurt haters: prices are extremely seasonal, regional and situational.
What matters is that he's giving us a step by step for straightforward, decent and great looking pieces that will sell, regardless of price!

I will say though, I'd use a food safe finish just in case, someone always ends up serving and cutting food on it.
I live in Belgium and I gotta say, some of the prices you mention seem outrageously expensive to me. All these products are really nice I can see myself making them as they seem pretty easy to make, but man, I don't think I could ever sell one with those prices.
Definitely, please make a video about how many pieces you can sell for these prices.

I'm blown away that you actually make profit. I've done similar stuff since 2017 and the only way not to lose money has been to use leftover wood from construction work. Greetings from Finland!

Great video and I love your enthusiasm of making and selling for a profit, all great woodworking projects that you showcase but unfortunately here were I live in US I could not even recoup the money for the raw material used to make them. Not to mention the time spent to make them as well. I still love all the ideas thanks for sharing.

Just stumbled on this video about to have look through your older video's. The tray for your sister looks allot like a sushi style tray grove a small peice maybe 50mmx 20mm to the middle for chop stick holders make couple holders plus that sushi set folk will go nuts for them. Great video. Do u wood turn?? 👍🏴

I know the nails aren't going to penetrate through on that Christmas tree, but I had a mini panic attack when you were shooting the nail gun with your thump opposite as a brace.
The high prices on these items should be according to their material and workmanship. An eighth grader could make these out of pine and slap on some stain. It’s a really beautiful ones are going to have a more expensive finish and of course they will start with hardwood.
Plus pine is really bad for anything that will have food placed on it. Pine is an open-pore species and collects bacteria. Always use hardwood like walnut, maple, or cherry.
All finishes are food safe after 100% cured.
@TorchAndWillowDesigns Not necessarily true, some finishes may react with certain foods, so please do be careful.
@paulmaryon9088 I have to respectfully disagree. After fully cured, meaning weeks later, even finishes with metallic drying agents, which is what you would be referring to as reacting to certain foods, is food-safe but I would go with what you're personally comfortable with.

The prices are plucked from the sky with most of these channels. It gets viewers looking to make a quick buck and think it's easy money until they try to actually sell them anywhere near those prices. I imagine they do sell a lot of plans to make them from though 😉
Coffins are really expensive, so consider making your own one in case your family will be burdened with that cost later on down the line.

Just because they are listed for these prices, does not mean that people are buying at that price.
True, but for a lot of the products I showed there's several "in cart", which at least means people are considering them.
Also, sellers wouldn't list the product for that price if they didn't sell any of them.

Yeah, that is the same for EVERY product. nobody buys cars for full price as advertised. they pay MORE.
@@mattscoinsnstuff5686there is actually a lot of research that shows if you price to low people are less likely to buy (they assume its cheap junk, they don’t value it, etc) but if you price it higher they are more likely to buy (value it as handmade, assume its better quality). Its a very common recommendation that works in entrepreneur groups, increasing price if items are not selling for current price.
It's obvious this is not a woodworker that understands what profit is. Profit is the result after material costs, labor and overhead, shipping in some cases and taxes are removed from the sales price.

I do understand what profit is, and you’re absolutely right about what you said. I added in the material cost of course. When it comes to labor cost, I’m alone in the shop and I assume most people watching are as well. Therefore the cost of labor is whatever profit is left after adding all the expenses. When it comes to shipping, here in Norway at least, it’s almost always added on top of the sales price, and the taxes are calculated based on the profit, and will also vary from country to country, and even person to person. But that’s something that I probably should have mentioned in the video.

Please be extra careful when using any air gun. Very possible for the nails to blow out on an angle.
If you're selling the serving tray, I would use a food safe finish. Someone will decide to use it as a charcuterie board.

Once it's cured, pretty much every wood finish is "food safe".
People decide to misuse things all the time. Some people use knives to stab other people, should the manufacturer take responsibility for this!

There are plenty of ways to find customers for the big expensive projects. FB Marketplace, Craigslist, craft shows, and consignment booths. That's just off the top of my head. Imagine if this young man's grandfather thought the same as you? He established the best kind of leads you can ever get..."Word of mouth". He had to start somewhere to get to that point, and that he did. You must wear many hats in this business. In this business, you'll be wearing your salesman hat more often than your woodworking hat. That's just the way of life in the woodworking entrepreneur world.
I think they mean the area they live in doesn't support selling items. probably because of low population or poor economic conditions. in this case they need to focus on smaller items they can ship anywhere.
I was with you until the tray for your sister. You claimed you just used a basic piece of board but anyone with eyes and some common sense can see that piece is multiple pieces attached similar to a butcher block style. That may sound "so what" ish to some people but that actually makes a huge difference in cost and material availability.
Not exactly butcher, as it’s not the endgrain facing up, but edge-grain. Seems like there’s a big difference between Norway and US here. In Norway these types of boards are pretty much the only ones they are selling in «home depot» style stores.

I am thinking to make door wedges and sell them for $10 a pop. No, $37 a pop. I should be able to make 10 per hour or pay an intern $10/hour to make 10 per hour. And then employ 10 interns. Franchise the business idea etc.
I always wonder when people claim they're making profit, particularly lots of profit, and then tell potential competitors about it and how to make it.
I can see why you would think that, but first of all; I never claimed to make this profit myself. I’m simply showing you what other people are selling at what price, and then how easy and cheap it can be made.
Second; I believe there’s plenty of customers for all of us out there. And that if you somehow stand out, you can get a piece of that pie. Me posting one video will not over-saturate the market.
Third; obviously I make money from making these videos.
I make it myself zero cost, lol. 😂 what fool pays 50 dollars for a board with handles, love the other works of yours. Keep the goods coming.

For you, yes. Because you can make it yourself. But people who can't make it themselves are paying $50 or more. Go to etsy, and see for yourself.

You are not really adding your time. I would add 20.00 for your time at a minimum.
That's dumb, he's making that money as well as the profit. Also it takes him 20 minutes to make it, so you want him to charge himself 60 dollars an hour? His profit is selling price minus materials, which is also his hourly rate.
You would only add a labor cost into COGS if you're foregoing making that rate by being in the shop. If you're giving up making $20/hr at a part time job then yeah, add in $20/hr to your equation. If you're doing this as a side-hussle and would otherwise be spending that time doing non revenue-generating activities (or worse, spending money on some form of entertainment) then your labor cost is $0 (or even -$)
So how much did you charge your Sister or did you let her have one for free, because they are cheap to make and because she is your Sister?
On the same subject as above, i can't believe somebody would be daft enough to pay $100-150 for one of those boards, considering how cheap they are to make. The same goes for those Christmas Trees blimey, how does that saying go 'a fool is soon parted from his money'

So I'd be buying a standard IKEA oak worktop that you have cut a couple of ends off to use as feet and have a face grain board??? I've got 30+ years experience and could see the joints within 2 seconds that it wasn't one you fully made. 20mins to make 1??????????? If I was to make a proper one from oak would be 3 days from rough sawn timber with the planing, glue up. clamping, sanding and sanding and finishing. You do some great content but please don't make it out to be so easy and charge them prices
It's sometimes shocking how much people are getting away when it comes to their pricing.
But you still need to crack that market and stand out from everyone else that's doing the same. Not an easy task.
