      Watching Husky videos I wonder if their demeanor and language is a bit alien to the average dog. Listen to the latest Girl With The Dogs video (bathing a vocal Husky). I concur that a tiny puppy might not be a good choice, but an older “puppy” can be a joy as company for an older dog. As a husky mom for over 20 years, I no longer have a team, but I can tell you from experience, huskies definitely need dog companionship. My 7 year old Siberian just lost his female friend to cancer and I recently rescued a 7 month old to rouse him out of his lethargy. It worked. They play and play, and then eat, and sleep and sleep. Make no mistake, they continue to adjust and find their hierarchy, but as much as they need their humans, they love their dog pals.

    • @hunkaboomer
      @hunkaboomer 3 года назад +9

      @Alex Kozloff I also have a 16 year old female Alaskan Husky who refuses to come in the house and has a cozy kennel built into the garage. She came from a traditional dog team in Alaska many years ago. She is an alpha female and the new dog respects her space. Don’t underestimate those old (and apparently very wise) dogs in terms of adjustment. I have never got the feeling that she thought she was being replaced. She gets equal love and remains as vibrant and lovely as the first day I got her. But you know your dog better than all of us who put our two cents in. I have always had multiple Huskies and will until I become that old girl in the garage, ha ha. Teresa

      Some dogs enjoy having a younger dog around to play with while others are jealous of sharing their home and members of their pack with others. You wouldn't want him to be stressed about protecting his place in the pack, but if it gave him a tenth of the fun he gets from visiting Key, I think he would really appreciate living with another dog.

    You could always buy Sister Sarah a puppy so that Sherpa can teach the puppy how to behave etc, but she has to look after it at her house so you can have peace and quiet...plus she can make videos about the puppy for her channel...everybody is a winner!

      The only issue I have is with some of the other Husky Malamute channels ( not Key or Sherpa) is that they bathe their dogs constantly because it looks cute. Spitz breed dogs do not need baths more than once a year if they get extremely dirty. If they are primarily inside dogs like my 3 year old Norwegian Elk Hound, they never need baths. They have a sweet smell. They never have a doggy oder and because they shed so much, bathing should not become routine. Most breeders will tell you at the very most just spray them with a hose and dry them off. One Malamute channel actually washes their dogs a couple of times a month. Not good for their coats as it washes away their natural oils and will ruin their coat. As I stated, my Norwegian Elk Hound is 3 and has never had a bath. He is clean as a whistle and smells fresh and sweet.

      @DARSHIL SHAH well it also depends on the teachings (I have also seen them😁) Millie and Rupert were both together from the starting so they do know the sharing thing also all dogs are different and not to mention the Rupert likes to play and all energized and Millie likes to give cuddles (or even get coddles) which makes her more motherly or even gentle which will make any puppy happy. Besides..... They both are used to a other dog time whereas Sherpa .... He has always been the only one dog so I guess I agree with the point getting a puppy for sister Sarah.

    Puppy pulls at my heartstrings. All I can say is that our Cookie is very jealous of any Puppy having our attention. Case in point My Mom was with us for a while and she has a Yorkie named Suki about the same age as Cookie 10yrs. Cookie did not like Suki having our attention. So everytime we went out had to take Suki with us. ( I just didn't want anything to happen). Miss Suki she came to us in our deepest lows and she was Great, full of Love! Anyway can't wait to see Sherpa and Key together ❤ again. Joan Bates

    2 German Sheperds, Quinn and Brandy.and a Norwegian Wolfhound, Splinter.
    Lobo,the Malamute had been terribly abused before we rescued her.
    During walks, even though she was older and battle torn, would take the lead

    My 12 year old boy likes hanging out with other dogs for a little while, but is very happy to go home with just me. I think after 10 years of age is a tough time for them to adjust to sharing their people and changing how they live at home. A puppy is a lot for them. Maybe another senior dog for company....

    When Rusty, my first Shetland Sheep dog was around 12.5 years old he started showing his age. After careful thought, I decided to get another Sheltie puppy. IT WAS THE BEST DECISION I COULD HAVE MADE!! My experience was it brought out the playful puppy in Rusty again. Like Rusty, Sherpa will guide/teach a puppy what is expected by his human. Rusty was with us till his was 14.5 years old, he never lacked for love or attention. I can see Sherpa looking out on the Moors with a buddy by his side.🙂

    On the topic of getting another dog, I would do a test run on multiple different days. Try to find someone who has a puppy who you can bring over to your house for the day, then the weekend. Put the puppy in the van and go on outings with the puppy, and do various activities like you do now but with a puppy and see his reaction. Even a weekend overnight with a puppy in his domain will let you know his reaction. Or you can foster a puppy temporarily in the house and that will give you all the information you need to know. Good luck

I personally like the idea of fostering (for example, from a local dog shelter, not necessarily from a friend) for a temporary time, BUT (a big BUT) for now, Sherpa has won my heart for dogs and it will be very difficult to see a transition onto another puppy because Sherp is a really special dog and we (all your followers) have also developed a friendly relationship with Sherps through your You Tube Channel.

    • @Acidfunkish
      @Acidfunkish 3 года назад

      Curtains are really easy to make, too. The easiest is the kind with the fabric loops that hang on the curtain rod.
      Wouldn't suggest hand-sewing them, though. That's a damn lot of work. But you could definitely hand sew the hem on one set of curtains, without it taking a ridiculous amount of time.
      But a seamstress could do the same in less than 15 min.

    This is purely my take on getting other dogs, so feel free to disagree. If you were going to get an additional dog, I would have got one when the 1st one was 2 YO or younger. If the dog is older than that i would say: Wait. it's not a "no", purely a "wait". This is because I think the Human's response is as important as the dog's. The human (and the dog) will have a close emotional bond to each other the older the dog gets (it's like a child). I recommend that dog owners dont get a new dog for AT LEAST a year after their dog has died. Remember your dog. Give them respect that they were important in your life. Remember what it's like to have a year without having to think about a dog, holidays kennels, shopping, etc. I can go where I want when I wt, without worrying about the Dog! (Is this important to you?

      Don't agree. The moment kiata is gone there comes another one. An oldie from the shelter. That's my goal in live and I ow it to kiara. Why waiting for a year when you can risk a dog from the shelter. If kiara wasn't in our life she would be already long death. Now she is a healthy dog of 14 years.

      @@itsallgood4093 depends on how you are coping with the goodbye of your previous animal. I couldn't cope with an empty house. I get depressed. So up to the shelter, taking the dog with the less best future... I mean, old, ugly not attractive to people... it gave me already 3 dogs that were so good and sweet and they all stayed alive very long because they went on a diet, get good food and visits to the vets until they are back 100% healthy.
      Kiara fe. She is a sweet dog, but her weight... 35 kilo instead of 25... she was fat... had problems with her joints. Was an ugly fat dog. But now, even after 14 years, she is a beautiful lady... if I didn't saved her she would be death... now she is still a healthy old dog and so beautiful 😍.

      @@annnoyez Everyone is different. That's how I always felt, replace as soon as possible. Most times it always worked out. But twice in my life I lost 2 of the very best friends that I've ever had. One a cat and the other a dog. I rushed in too fast and the animals I got to replace them just really it didn't workout the way I hoped. Both animals I kept because I took on the responsibility and did not give up on them. The cat I got ended up being a b*+#h and the dog, well I'm sure she would have been voted, "Most Likely to Shank Another Dog in Prison". I think it all depends on the person and the animal you get I guess.

    Jamie, I've had dogs all my life and for the most part, we have always gotten a puppy as our dogs have gotten older, mostly for the training of the puppy. We have found that the older dogs have a lot of patience but will also let the puppy know when they've had enough. I truly believe the older dogs have a very positive influence on the puppy. And potty training definitely goes much better. When losing a dog, it's like losing a child for us and having that younger dog there to help us through has been a real blessing. Knowing that the new dog had a relationship with our beloved older dog is also a comfort when the time comes. Your connection with Sherpa can never be replaced but it can help forge a new relationship with another dog and I believe Sherpa would be comforted knowing he isn't leaving you alone. That being said, it is a hard decision that only you can make. Wishing you and Sherpa all the best and many more adventures together!
