MashaAllah, for years I’ve been waiting for a large scale push towards Waqf in the UK. Alhamdulillah Muslim individuals and businesses are starting to deploy increasing amounts of capital in the UK resulting in increasing ownership and returns. However, we risk falling into the same materialist, monopolistic capitalism that is destroying our souls, communities and earth. Waqf is an integral part of the “Islamic economy”, without which we will merely be greenwashing existing modern economic frameworks. It is a truly disruptive and transformative force which will upset the “owners and controllers of globalised financial capital”, the most powerful class on this world today. May Allah place barakah in our endeavours, and protect our community from the forces of global capital, inshaAllah
