  • This geometry video tutorial provides a basic introduction into the median of a triangle. It provides the formula and equations necessary to calculate segment lengths within the median such as the distance between the vertex and centroid or between the midpoint and centroid. The median is the line segment that connects the vertex of a triangle to the midpoint of the opposite side. This video discusses the definition of the median as well as its properties. The median bisects the opposite side into two congruent segments. This video provides plenty of examples and algebra practice problems involving medians.

    for all of you wondering why it is 2/3? I've proved it by finding the equation of two medians and find the intersection of those lines then find the distance between the intersection point which is the centroid and the vertex then find the distance between the same point and the midpoint of the side opposite to that vertex then find a relation between them which turns out to be 2:1 or you can say that the one between the vertex and centroid is 2/3 that median. pro tip assume one if the vertices to be the origin and the other to be on the x-axis (a,0) and the last one to be in the first quadrant (b,c)

    13:26 it says PD=1/3BD so shouldn't he have put 1/3(4x-7) instead of 1/3(x^2+11) because the formula for BP is BP=2RD

    • @nanaisalwaysbored

      if this is not a mistake can someone explain it to me

    • @walkiriamachado21
      @walkiriamachado21 4 года назад

      He is correct. Remember that BD is the whole median, PD is only a fraction (1/3) of BD.
      BP=2PD means that PD is twice the value of BP so it's not a formula but a comparison.

    mental note: there's no difference between a median & a side bisector, yet it's different from angle bisectors

    • @sukarnos3xy
      @sukarnos3xy 2 года назад

      True, a median always bisects a triangle's side into two congruent lines, just like an angle bisector always bisects a triangle's angle into two congruent angles. therefore a median is the same as the side bisector, synonymous.

    • @ngchorhong3174

      If all three sides are given,
      use cosine rule to find one of the angles.
      After that draw a median that doesn't cut the angle you just found and use trigonometry
      It's possible because you have one given side, one angle and the unknown length of the median
